Your Name and Avatar

OK, short story time:

My late father (a huge Civil War nut) discovered that we had ancestor named Sam who served in one of the most famous units in the Union army: The Iron Brigade. Specifically, he was a corporal in Company C of the 24th Michigan Regiment.

The brigade suffered horrendous losses on July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg. One casualty was our grandfather, who was wounded in the leg and limped for the rest of his life.

So, his name + year = MGo Name. The avatar is the brigade's monument at Gettysburg.

My name is Sam and I carry a fucking switchblade. 

Or I needed an MGOidentity and somehow randomly ended up as the villain of not even one my favorite childhood movies. 

First name and state of residence.  Not very original.

The picture has a saguaro cactus because that's what Arizona is famous for, although the saguaro grows in a relatively narrow band of elevation in only a relatively small part of Arizona.  But it's pretty common here in Tucson.

I was critical of some of the mods and made a couple snarky posts to get my first 2 accounts caved. My name is now just my nickname amongst my buddies growing up.  Ive learnt my lesson.  Lol

1. Blau is German for the color blue. Simple yet memorable.

2. Avatar is taken from Dazed and Confused when the primary focal gang is hanging out in front of the emporium with local legend David Wooderson (Matthew Mcconaughey).

I really just wanted a random picture and didn’t want anything Michigan related because I’m sure someone would already have it. Haven’t changed it since signing up and probably never will.

1) Dayday is a nickname given to me by my family.  No it's not from Friday.  My sister couldn't say David when she was a toddler and called me DayDay. 

2) My avatar is Jinno from afro samurai because I like violent anime.

1. At the time when I created my account, I was a big proponent of moleskine journals. I owned multiple and carried one with me wherever I went. Due to the odd spelling of the word, I had some debates with friends on how it should be pronounced (mole-skin or mole-skyn). I had a strong opinion on the matter at the time I created my account, and that is now reflected for all posterity. Seems rather pedantic to me now and while I know I can change it, it's my identity here so I'm ok with it.

2. My avatar was originally a photo of Hemingway, as he was a notable user of moleskine journals. I have since changed it to the Olde English D, since I am a fan of the Tigers.

Because who doesn't love the Flintstones?  I also associate most posters here by their Avatar (more than their name) so I wanted one that was unlike many others here.  

Because I'm in PA and I was booted.....

Avatar is the always gorgeous Elle Johnson.... Seth was kind enough to dress her in a sweater for the season.

"matty" is from my longtime girlfriend, and "blue" is...well, duh.

my avatar is just a shot i had as my computer background for a while, still readable as a tiny shot.

I'm kind of a big deal.

Username is Gronostaj. It’s from a DaVinci painting I was mesmerized by in Poland about 20 years ago (Dama z Gronotajem - or Lady with an Ermine) 

My picture is that painting with winged helmets on both the lady and the ermine. 

Mgobleu comes from a little tiff I got into with a sparty waiter at an Applebees after a M-MSU game. I was cocky because we won and he decided to serve my dinner covered in a ridiculous pile "Go Bleu Cheese". Very unprofessional and I probably could have had him fired but instead I just buried the check and a couple bucks cash in that pile of gross salad dressing and left. 

The avatar is mspaint from another mgoblogian whose name escapes me, with a real shot of Brian's face superimposed, inside a cyan circle because he's a "trouble spot".

1. When I created this account I was living in Columbus, OH at the time so I couldn't be publicly open about my Michigan fandom. (Well, I COULD have been open, but I just didn't wanna deal with the crap.)

2. I usually start a lotta my post with "Hey y'all " which is how Squirrelly the Squirrel greets many of his compatriots. As a practicing Catholic, I just realized it would be best for me to change that pic soon...

Actually, my name is sort of misspelled. When I created it, an MGoBlog staffer said I should take the period out of "St." because it looked odd .... or something like that.

Was living in Wichita when I joined.

If you look closely you'll notice my custom avatar.

1-My tenth grade geometry teacher had a quirky sense of humor.  He’d leave odd quotes on the board from a 13th century fictional mathematician “Quadrazu.”  I adopted it as my first Internet name in the 90s and have used it ever since.

2-The picture is of the Maroon Bells near Aspen, CO where I visited in June this year.

BTW I have lived in Columbus, OH since 1999 and this board (mostly) keeps me sane.  These people are rabid!

Dark Star is a Grateful Dead song which is mostly instrumental with 2 short verses and was quite psychedelic with long drawn-out jams with a jazz-type theme.  I was introduced to the Dead my sophomore year at UM by my roommate (who really expanded my musical tastes) and ended up going to 20 shows from 92-94. 

The avatar is a combination of UM and the "Steal your face" logo.
