Your Name and Avatar

Ha, that's awesome that you remember that! Probably eight years ago or so...
December 26th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
I have always loved your avatar. I often think it represents many of the sky is falling fans on here after every little bad thing that happens...sadly I picture most fans like this after the past decade.
December 26th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
Your avatar always makes me smile.

Timeless name and avatar.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:06 AM ^
OK, short story time:
My late father (a huge Civil War nut) discovered that we had ancestor named Sam who served in one of the most famous units in the Union army: The Iron Brigade. Specifically, he was a corporal in Company C of the 24th Michigan Regiment.
The brigade suffered horrendous losses on July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg. One casualty was our grandfather, who was wounded in the leg and limped for the rest of his life.
So, his name + year = MGo Name. The avatar is the brigade's monument at Gettysburg.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:11 AM ^
You’re the better Sam
December 26th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
Been to Gettysburg a bunch of times. It's a very special place and I always look for the Michigan monuments. Very cool that your ancestor fought there for a great cause.
December 26th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
The last time I was there was in the fall of '88, when Dad's health was still good enough to allow him to travel. We found the 24th Michigan monument in McPherson's (now Reynolds') Woods on a dreary October day, right where our grandfather fought. Thirty years later and it's still one of the best memories I have of the Old Man.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:09 AM ^
My name is Sam and I carry a fucking switchblade.
Or I needed an MGOidentity and somehow randomly ended up as the villain of not even one my favorite childhood movies.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:10 AM ^
First name and state of residence. Not very original.
The picture has a saguaro cactus because that's what Arizona is famous for, although the saguaro grows in a relatively narrow band of elevation in only a relatively small part of Arizona. But it's pretty common here in Tucson.
Here's a closeup of the thorns on one of those things:
December 26th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Damn! That looks like some kind of medieval weapon.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:10 AM ^
I was critical of some of the mods and made a couple snarky posts to get my first 2 accounts caved. My name is now just my nickname amongst my buddies growing up. Ive learnt my lesson. Lol
December 26th, 2018 at 9:11 AM ^
1. Blau is German for the color blue. Simple yet memorable.
2. Avatar is taken from Dazed and Confused when the primary focal gang is hanging out in front of the emporium with local legend David Wooderson (Matthew Mcconaughey).
I really just wanted a random picture and didn’t want anything Michigan related because I’m sure someone would already have it. Haven’t changed it since signing up and probably never will.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:11 AM ^
1) Dayday is a nickname given to me by my family. No it's not from Friday. My sister couldn't say David when she was a toddler and called me DayDay.
2) My avatar is Jinno from afro samurai because I like violent anime.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:11 AM ^
Wtf? Exactly!

1. The name of the organ in Hill Auditorium.
2. That's me!

1. At the time when I created my account, I was a big proponent of moleskine journals. I owned multiple and carried one with me wherever I went. Due to the odd spelling of the word, I had some debates with friends on how it should be pronounced (mole-skin or mole-skyn). I had a strong opinion on the matter at the time I created my account, and that is now reflected for all posterity. Seems rather pedantic to me now and while I know I can change it, it's my identity here so I'm ok with it.
2. My avatar was originally a photo of Hemingway, as he was a notable user of moleskine journals. I have since changed it to the Olde English D, since I am a fan of the Tigers.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
i thought it was "mole - skin - ay"
(they're the best, by the way. i've got 20 years of them lined up in my office cubicle)
December 26th, 2018 at 10:35 AM ^
I thought it was "mo-LESS-kin," like "I got 8 to 10 months for moleskine the neighbor's cat."
December 26th, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
i don't know about you guys, but i want to meet the guy that can skin moles. tiny little buggers. that'd be a hard job....
December 26th, 2018 at 9:20 AM ^
Because who doesn't love the Flintstones? I also associate most posters here by their Avatar (more than their name) so I wanted one that was unlike many others here.

Was the Great Gazoo taken?
December 26th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
He was no Joe Rockhead. For whatever reason I never cared much for Gazoo.
December 26th, 2018 at 11:44 AM ^
Allow me to say that I've always thought yours was one of the best names on this blog. An obscure one-time reference from an iconic animated series from 50 years ago? I doff my Loyal Order of Water Buffalo Lodge hat in your honor.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:21 AM ^
Because I'm in PA and I was booted.....
Avatar is the always gorgeous Elle Johnson.... Seth was kind enough to dress her in a sweater for the season.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:23 AM ^
"matty" is from my longtime girlfriend, and "blue" is...well, duh.
my avatar is just a shot i had as my computer background for a while, still readable as a tiny shot.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:23 AM ^
I'm kind of a big deal.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:31 AM ^
Congrats on the hypersonic weapon. Was it also developed as part of a triple dog dare?
December 26th, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
Username is Gronostaj. It’s from a DaVinci painting I was mesmerized by in Poland about 20 years ago (Dama z Gronotajem - or Lady with an Ermine)
My picture is that painting with winged helmets on both the lady and the ermine.
December 26th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
ermines are very under the radar......

Mgobleu comes from a little tiff I got into with a sparty waiter at an Applebees after a M-MSU game. I was cocky because we won and he decided to serve my dinner covered in a ridiculous pile "Go Bleu Cheese". Very unprofessional and I probably could have had him fired but instead I just buried the check and a couple bucks cash in that pile of gross salad dressing and left.
The avatar is mspaint from another mgoblogian whose name escapes me, with a real shot of Brian's face superimposed, inside a cyan circle because he's a "trouble spot".
December 26th, 2018 at 9:29 AM ^
1. My kids gave me this name when they were little because they were learning the art and thought it was a funny thing to call their dad.
2. Invader Zim
December 26th, 2018 at 9:31 AM ^
1. When I created this account I was living in Columbus, OH at the time so I couldn't be publicly open about my Michigan fandom. (Well, I COULD have been open, but I just didn't wanna deal with the crap.)
2. I usually start a lotta my post with "Hey y'all " which is how Squirrelly the Squirrel greets many of his compatriots. As a practicing Catholic, I just realized it would be best for me to change that pic soon...
December 26th, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
1. My first intial/last name favorite number
2. It's the Hogwarts castle. I love Harry Potter
December 26th, 2018 at 9:33 AM ^
Well, gosh, I guess I'm not very subtle:
1. Guess
2. Guess.
Actually, my name is sort of misspelled. When I created it, an MGoBlog staffer said I should take the period out of "St." because it looked odd .... or something like that.

1-My tenth grade geometry teacher had a quirky sense of humor. He’d leave odd quotes on the board from a 13th century fictional mathematician “Quadrazu.” I adopted it as my first Internet name in the 90s and have used it ever since.
2-The picture is of the Maroon Bells near Aspen, CO where I visited in June this year.
BTW I have lived in Columbus, OH since 1999 and this board (mostly) keeps me sane. These people are rabid!

Actually, it’s not obvious, because I think you are a guy.

Dark Star is a Grateful Dead song which is mostly instrumental with 2 short verses and was quite psychedelic with long drawn-out jams with a jazz-type theme. I was introduced to the Dead my sophomore year at UM by my roommate (who really expanded my musical tastes) and ended up going to 20 shows from 92-94.
The avatar is a combination of UM and the "Steal your face" logo.

1. Amphibious1, because of my stint in the Marines.
2. The Predator. Because it's the freaking Predator. I MS painted the head a long time ago.

What Lloyd would always say during Michigan Replay when responding to Brandstatter's questions
Why. Because it's funny and plays into Brian's idea of playing the old school Michigan Replay song at the start on his podcasts. And because it reminds me of when I would watch games with my dad growing up
December 26th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
1) I would consider myself a hillbilly/redneck so it was really a no brainer.
2) The pic is of 2 of my kids. It’s a little old as I have 4 now.
