Submitted by scanner blue on December 26th, 2018 at 8:49 AM

We have a bowl game in three days and no one is talking football, tickets , what bar in Aukland is M friendly, etc. soooo.....time for a little OT.

Simple questions: 1. Why/what/who is your MGo Name? 2. Why/ what/ WTF is your avatar pic?

I'd like my account (ScooterTooter) to be reinstated. Mgowill banned me because he accused me of being Maizen. If you look at my posting history, its clearly not true:

From another thread:

Then I just made a nonsense name, Scootertooter, that was banned because I had the audacity to agree with Maizen in a thread where a bunch of people were seriously pretending like Georgia losing their back-up QB was the same thing as Aubrey Solomon transferring. How someone who could have posted positive threads after the Notre Dame game and the Ohio State game could be confused with Maizen is beyond me, but hey, you do you mgowill. Modding is an emotional game.

Username comes from a need that arose because someone here was already using my username.  I've used VaBlue since, ohh, ~1991, but when I got here it was already taken.  So I had to ad-lib on the fly...

The avatar is a skiing wolverine, and was created by the guy that ran a private message board ~10-15 years ago, after a large group of us were kicked out of the CNN forums for being obnoxious.  He has since died, and his board lost users and has also since died.

1. Thought (and still think) that it is funny than Richie Sambora was married to Heather Locklear. 114 comes from AOL instant messenger joke from my sister's high school senior trip in 2001.

2. Creme fraiche is from South Park. Bless you Randy Marsh

Brady's Legacy

December 26th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^

My avatar pic is my dog. His name is Brady. Brady joined the family right after our former coach Brady Hoke took the team to an 11-2 record. What other choice did I have but to name my dog after the coach that restored Michigan football?

I even remember a friend and Michigan alum suggesting Yost or Bo but why would I do that when we had the next great coach?

It's a reminder to always take your time before making a decision. Good thing is Brady is a much better dog than his namesake was coach.

WNY in Savannah

December 26th, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^

I lived in Western New York for years and now I live in Savannah. The pic is sunrise over the Atlantic but not at Savannah. It's at the Outer Banks of NC because I love it there. I also used to have a pic of my wife at the beach but changed to the ocean pic.

I live in western Michigan, next to the big lake.  Love our sand dunes in Michigan.  And of coarse I love the M22 highway, it's a great cruise.  You start in Manistee and end up in Traverse City.  If your hungry you can stop a the Apache Trout Grill.

M-Dog

December 26th, 2018 at 10:25 AM ^

M-Dog is for "Mad Dog".

That was my soccer nickname.  They did not have soccer in my schools growing up in the coal regions of PA in the '70s.  When I first started playing it in the early '80s, I didn't really know the rules.  I thought that if somebody was between me and the ball, I could check them out of the way, hockey style.  I was a total hack.

One game, I was out of control as usual.  As I came charging down the sideline after a loose ball, the other team yelled out "Watch out, here comes that mad dog!"

My own teammates thought this was the best thing ever, and proceeded to call me that themselves.  The name stuck, so that was my nickname for years whether I wanted it or not.

I eventually embraced it, given the lack of choice, and it became something I used on things like user accounts / avatars.

My avatar is sort of a cross between a Wolverine and a smiling dog.  Because . . . I don't know, why not?

A Lot of Milk

December 26th, 2018 at 10:25 AM ^

Taken from the amazing HBO special when Harbaugh first got here. In one of the interview segments Harbaugh reminisces about how he wanted to be taller than he was so he drank as much milk as he could. He snaps out of his dreamlike phase and looks the interviewer directly in the eyes and says "I drank a lot of milk, Andrea. A lot of milk."

And the avatar was either taken from someone on here or from Twitter, but I definitely should've given them credit/asked to use it before I snagged it

BlueMan80

December 26th, 2018 at 10:26 AM ^

My friends and co-workers knew I was a die hard Michigan fan, so I was referred to as "blue" at times.  Most of these people graduated from our fierce rival, Illinois.  1980 is the year I graduated with a degree in Engineering.

As for the avatar, self explanatory.  Previously, it was a picture of me and my daughter (during her sophomore year at Michigan) on the field during a Big House tour.

Couzens

December 26th, 2018 at 10:34 AM ^

I've been reading MGoBlog two to ten times per day since 2009. For my birthday gift to myself this year, I finally created an account:

1. Couzens was my dorm, and 14 years later I'm still am in contact with some of those floor-mates daily as we discuss all things Michigan

2. Self explanatory

HermosaBlue

HermosaBlue because I lived in Hermosa Beach when I joined MGoBlog.

And Hermosa means beautiful, And at that point in time (summer 2008), I thought our football team had a beautiful future with Rich Rodriguez at the helm.

The picture is sunset over Hermosa Beach.

We moved back to Ann Arbor in 2014.  My wife and I are both Michigan natives.  That said, she's a bit less happy to be back here than I am.  She misses Hermosa, as do I.  It's just that I don't miss the taxes, real estate prices, traffic, density, etc. as much as she does.

She lived and worked between PCH and the ocean.  I lived west of PCH, but worked first in Century City, and later in DTLA, and I did not relish my 17-, then 22-mile commute, which took between 40-80 minutes each way most days.

ST3

December 26th, 2018 at 10:35 AM ^

When I started at UofM in 1988 the University would let you choose your own email address. I have two common names and no middle name. Like Glen Robinson III, I am the third. After failing miserably a couple times trying to select a uniqname (I think that’s what they were called back then) I tried “stthree” and that worked. I’ve been ST3 for 30 years thanks to UofM.

My original MGoAvatar was a picture of Cliff Klaven, because my goal as a contributor here was to add very mundane trivia whenever possible. I felt that was a niche I could fill. In grad school, a friend started calling me Klaven.

I think it was after my dad died, my mom mentioned she was cleaning up his stuff in the garage and found his old “100%BLU” license plate. I always wanted a unique Avatar and I figured that would certainly apply. Dad never liked paying for things that he could get for free. Working in State Government, he got to know someone at the Secretary of State’s office. He asked his friend to hold the “100 BLU” plate for him. Dad added the little % sticker between the numbers and the letters.

I love living in Tennessee and named my son after one of the UofM colors.

Avatar is the first time I tried an In and Out burger. I’m only on mobile, so not going to figure out how to make my avatar right side up. Just ignore my inter webz ignorance.

1)  One of the leaders from a movie, bunch of everyday kids turn into rebels fighting for their freedom.  The name they give themselves is from the mascot from their school.

2)  Just a pic from the movie where these rebels leave their mark after a confrontation

Avatar? My three greatest influences while I was in Ann Arbor: John Lennon, Karl Marx and Firesign Theatre.

"Where's Porgy?" He's upstairs helping Porcelyn make the bed!

Picture: My favorite hockey player back then.

Brian Griese

December 26th, 2018 at 10:45 AM ^

The name and photo are one in the same.  The story though is the reason why:

In the summer of 1997 I was 9 years old.  My Pee-wee baseball coach was a huge Michigan fan, so of course he got maize and blue jerseys for us.  I had never really thought about favorite numbers at that point in my life, but it didn't matter because I don't recall being asking what number I wanted.  When my jersey was handed to me, it was number 14.

We went on to have a great season, starting the season with 12 or 13 straight wins if I recall correctly.

However, I always had my eye on football more so than baseball.  My dad had become the assistant coach of the local high school by that time and all I dreamed about was playing QB when I got older.

Of course, we all know what happened in the fall of 97. Seeing Michigan's QB wearing my number made Griese my favorite Michigan player ever (Sorry Woodson) and I wore 14 throughout my football career.

Lakeyale13

December 26th, 2018 at 10:53 AM ^

1.  Lake Yale was the actual lake that our house was on in FL.  Moved there in the late 80's from San Diego and Milford, MI before that.  The "#13" at the end is my favorite number and the number I always tried to wear for sports teams.  I loved Lance Parrish and that was his #.

2.  Took a trip to AA for the Penn State Game 3 years ago.  Was in Schembechler Hall touring when all of a sudden the team rolled up for a meeting.  I quickly went outside and got a pic with Rashan.

ToledoGoBlue

1) Lived in Toledo my whole life (until recently). Became a UM fan because my peewee football coach in the late 80s gave us tickets to sit on the 50 yard line for my first football game. All I remember is they were easy tickets to get and the AstroTurf.

2) Picture of Kevin Koger making a one-handed catch against Western. I teach at the high school he attended.

Sidenote: Chris Wormley was actually a student of mine when he was a sophomore in HS.

MacGyver

December 26th, 2018 at 11:00 AM ^

I was a big fan of the original MacGyver show in the late 80's to early 90's. My knack for jury-rigging some things during my undergrad days in Ann Arbor led to MacGyver becoming a second nickname.

The avatar is Mac's trusty Swiss Army knife and the one I carried as a Boy Scout. As a Scoutmaster, I use my Leatherman more than that knife, but I'm nostalgic and continue to carry the knife when Scouting.

I'm struggling with watching the reboot of the series, but there is an occasional Easter egg that entices me to keep watching.

Yostal

December 26th, 2018 at 11:00 AM ^

1). Yostal is the shortened version of my AIM screen name "GoinYostal" which seemed funnier in 1997, admittedly.  Yostal just seems like it works.

2). It is a modified version of the old Yost Ice Arena logo that used to be on the ice at Yost.  I just added the Block M for use in other online forums to make it clear it was Michigan related.

Steve Levy Sucks

Steve Levy Sucks - He did a short stint trying to do play by play for hockey, and I thought, boy, this Steve Levy Sucks.

A pile of shit under the Ohio State Logo - Because Ohio State is a pile of shit

Feel like this is brought up once a year.

After Hoke's last Michigan State game someone was in the game thread being a jackass of positivity. Not the good kind of positivity so I said something about spearing him off his high horse. The mods were more upset than me apparently and sent my previous identity to Bolivia.

Avatar: I photoshopped a Bo bobble head doll onto a bitmoji background :)
