In fairness, what our DL has…

In fairness, what our DL has done to their OL (and our OL to their DL) the last 3 years probably felt like an eternity to Buckeye fans.

I wonder if CJ feels some flu-like symptoms coming on.

NC resident here...North Carolina Governor Cooper tweeted 2 days ago and yesterday about the toxic political environment of the UNC Board of Governors (Regents equivalent) chasing away the Chancellor.

I guess the Chancellor's downward move from UNC to MSU is the other shoe dropping.

EDIT: I see I'm not the first to comment on this from the UNC angle.

Jim Harbaugh isn't…

Jim Harbaugh isn't specifically suspended, to my understanding.

Instead, the position of head football coach is suspended by the B1G, because it is synonymous with the school and the football team, and the B1G only has power to sanction the school (or an individual they found to have engaged in wrongdoing).

With no evidence that Harbaugh did anything wrong, he is not personally suspended, so it only makes sense to credit Harbaugh with the wins, at minimum as a GFY to the B1G.

I still think the school should announce he has been demoted to the Associate Head Coach and Director of Player Morale for a game, and will not be acting as Head Coach against Ohio State. Since he is not personally suspended there's no reason he can't be.

Anyone know a good class…

Anyone know a good class action firm with a UM grad that would be willing to start a suit on this premise to put the lie to the B1G's bullshit rationalization of its lynch mob enablement?

Fair point.  I confess I'm…

Fair point.  I confess I'm using illegality with colloquial imprecision, as shorthand for something that's against the rules, rather than a criminal act.

It's literally a "friend of…

It's literally a "friend of the court" brief.  That's what amicus curiae means.

IANAL caveats, as always,…

IANAL caveats, as always, but with respect to showing the likelihood the University/Harbaugh will ultimately prevail on the merits in order to justify the PI, does it make sense to attack the core premise of illegality of Stalions' actions, also?

The NCAA and B1G's entire case against Stalions and, ultimately, Harbaugh, rests on two assumptions about the relevant NCAA rules:

1. The ban in-person scouting extends beyond athletics personnel to non-university-employees.  In my nonlawyer reading, it appears that is not the case, and the rule is limited to coaching staff (at minimum) and athletics personnel (at max).

2. Seth's argument re field equipment: it's illegal to record the opposing sideline from the field during your own games. That section of the rules is inapplicable to conduct from the stands at games that your team is not participating in.  If recording from the stands was illegal, every All-22 film in existence, and every shaky iPhone shot from the bleachers would be an NCAA violation.

If Harbaugh/UM are deemed reasonably likely to prevail on these points by a preponderance of the evidence standard, that's one more checkmark in favor of the injunction.

I think it is self-evident that he is already running the athletic department.

I mean this sincerely…

I mean this sincerely...please explain what rules he broke (excluding the potential CMU issue). Seriously.

1. Sign stealing is legal.

2. The ban on sideline recording is in your own games.

3. Ban on in person scouting refers to athletics personnel (which is a specific defined term and actually excludes interns)

4. 3P scouting services (i.e. vendors/contractors) are legal.

If Stallions was at the CMU-MSU game, he's toast due to #3.

Other than that, this is all a PR offensive by Ryan Day, as near as I can tell.

And a good one, I will concede. I especially admire the part where he got people to focus on sign "stealing" (rather than signals intelligence, impressive selling of pejorative terminology to frame the issue), and whipped up a frenzy around something that's not actually against the rules as if it is an existential threat to the integrity of the sport.

My dad asked to do the B1G…

My dad asked to do the B1G stadium tour as a 75th & ongoing birthday present.  Starting in 2017, we've been going to at least one road venue every year (other than COVID 2020).  Having already been to East Lansing repeatedly (and seeing no reason to return), as well as Evanston, we had 11 stadiums to cross off our list.

We've been to 6 since the tour started (8 total):

-Purdue 2017 (W 28-10, the Wilton Speight injury game).  West Lafayette's entirely adequate as a town.  It was hot, the stadium was sold out for homecoming, and someone underbought water so badly the sunny side of the stadium was out of water and ice *before* halftime and about 50 people were being treated for heat exposure in the shadows under the stands at all times.

- Rutgers 2018 (W 42-7).  Rutgers is bad.  Piscataway is a decent town.  Campus is a fair bit of red brick and the river's nearby.  The stadium experience was lacking.

- Illinois 2019 (W 42-25). Hassan Haskins ran for 125, announcing himself to the rest of the B1G, Charbonnet for 116.  Michigan led comfortably, nearly nerfed away a lead - Illinois got within 28-25 before 2 late TDs sealed the win.  Champaign is meh.  Their fans were weirdly hostile.  But I guess it's a "big rivalry" so that's to be expected.

- Minnesota 2020 got COVIDed

- Wisconsin 2021 (W 38-17).  Madison is fantastic.  People are friendly.  And drunk.  As advertised.  My dad (age 80 at this point), got COVID, and so did I.  That was less pleasant.  But this was the game in 2021 when it became evident that Michigan was good at football again, dropping 25 straight on the Badgers to take a 28 point lead before giving up a last minute score.  Wisconsin managed 210 yards of offense and UM had 6 sacks, including 2.5 for Ojabo.

- Penn State 2021 (W 21-17).  Impulse buy at the register - a last minute trip for the hell of it meant that we stayed almost 2 hours from State College, so didn't get the full town experience, but did hit a tailgate with some PSU friends.  Beaver Stadium is indeed, as Brian once set, a giant erector set...one that has pumped in noise and a bunch of sports alums on the field yelling "We are..." into a microphone during TV timeouts, along with an obnoxious wildcat screech playing on repeat.  Tailgate was great, stadium, albeit rickety looking, has good sightlines in a picturesque setting.  Would do again.  One fan got a little cranky with my dad, who's 6'8" (or was before he started shrinking), and blocked the guy's view when he stood up.  This was the O-JA-BO game, with Cade connecting to Erick All for the winning TD.

- Iowa 2022 (W 27-14).  Iowa City is a fun town, as the OP notes.  I have several Iowa alum friends and we tailgated and wandered around town, which is aesthetically pleasing.  The stadium feels a lot smaller than I expected, but it's physically nice, in good shape, good amenities, good sightlines.

In all of these games, we've sat between the 40s on the Michigan sideline, which has generally meant we're sitting with older, more blue-haired alums of the host school.  With the exception of Illinois, as mentioned above, and about 10 minutes of a PSU fan complaining about a tall 80 year old, we've been welcomed, had good, substantive conversations about their football program and ours.

Future visits:
- 2023 Minnesota;
- 2024 and beyond, we're waiting for the B1G to update schedules.

That leaves Maryland, Nebraska, Indiana and Ohio State.

My dad wants to save Columbus for last.  He hasn't been in Ohio Stadium since 1942, when he was less than a year old, and his parents drove through Columbus on their way from Chicago to Washington DC where my (physicist) grandfather was to start work on a WWII weapons project for the War Department.

They drove by the stadium and decided to tour it (back in the days you could do such a thing).  While they were walking on the field, my infant father filled his diaper, and my grandmother changed him on the 50 yard line and left the diaper at midfield, since, as she (a Northwestern grad) noted, everyone said it looked like a toilet bowl.

In a bout of gallows humor, he figures if he waits until he's old enough, he may yet again have a diaper to leave in Ohio Stadium.

After coaching LMU, he coached the Phoenix Mercury (and Diana Taurasi) to the WNBA title in 2007.

Assuming this is the cause…

Assuming this is the cause of the saltiness...to me it sounds like All went against medical advice from the organization that has to clear him to play, and mad that Harbaugh didn't somehow overrule UM Medical.

IIRC, ever since Shane Morris (if not before), the chain of command on medical clearance to play runs thru the UM Health System outside of the athletic department entirely.

That's on purpose to protect players' health from coaching conflicts of interest.

Ondre Pipkins and Ben St. Juste are 2 more examples of that independent decisionmaking.

It's literally not Harbaugh's call, and there's nothing he can do to change the decision of the medical staff.

The world famous thing is…

The world famous thing is because Jesse Owens made Ohio State famous when he upstaged Adolf Hitler's Aryan pureblood olympians in the Berlin Olympics in 1936.

I presume it's still somewhere in the new building, but there was a plaque honoring Jesse Owens at Ferry Field for the last 85+ years after he set (edit: 4, not 5) world records in less than 90 minutes (edit: it was in 45 mins) in a dual meet between OSU and UM in Ann Arbor.

I wasn't a fan of "world famous" either, but with the relevant context it's a lot more tolerable.

Jordan Davis is huge, but after he got locked on the field for a few plays he was indeed gassed.

What struck me most was how bad his fundamentals were.  He stood straight up at the snap then moved forward.  He didn't fire out and drive, he stood up and then waded into the Bama line.  I can see a 340lb human clogging the middle like that, but he generated zero rush.

In other words, he has bad pad level.

Not to mention that OHIO is legitimately a solid ball club playing their best basketball right now. UVA is in trouble.

I'm in the fifth of five…

I'm in the fifth of five generations of family members to graduate from UM (LSA 1995, MBA 2002).  Both grandfathers were UM athletes (tennis and swimming), and my dad played basketball for UM in the 1960s (left just before the final 4 teams with Cazzie and Buntin).

Our family loves M football, but there was no ambiguity as to which sport mattered most to us growing up.

Stewart to Westbrook was painful, as was the loss at OSU in 2006.

The losses in the 1993 and 2013 games were absolute torture (1992 and 2018 less so, because those were more "pleasantly surprised we're in the title game" years).

For my family, at least, basketball matters more.
