This is the article that officially kicked off the new fall football season for me. Incredible writing. The sort of epic analysis that I share with non-Michigan (but still college football) fans when I attempt to explain what MGoBlog is and how it’s shaped my understanding of not just the sport, but our university’s athletics for over a decade.
Didn't see if anyone else already asked this and I might be off on the year USC/UCLA are joining the Big Ten, but doesn't this mean we could end up playing Texas, OSU, USC (or UCLA) all in the same year? I assume the league will require matches between Michigan/OSU and USC/UCLA in year one of those programs joining the conference. 2024 would be a stacked year for big games!
Same! JJ's coming out party. CoJo finally got some big time YAC. Our play calling wasn't super predictable, and our defense (Sainristil!!) showed up again and again and again in the second half. Amazing! Go Blue!
Props to this oline for continuing to grind despite us shifting to the pass for the first time since Hawaii. They were ready to run it down Ohio's throat when they were called upon. So good!

Meanwhile, Dantonio’s longevity bonus vested yesterday making him the 2nd highest paid college football coach in 2020 (Nick Saban is #1 on the list). $8.7 million dollars coming his way for this season, despite the losing culture both on and off the field.
CB depth is not great. We have 1.5 starters at the position without Ambry and we really need to strike gold here recruiting-wise this year IMO.
I'm hoping McGrone gets more PT than 3rd string WLB but time will tell. I wonder how the rotation works if either Barrett or Anthony also step up this year (or both) as that's a ton of LB talent for essentially 2 spots (I guess Barrett would also be a Viper though?).

I was also a student in '04 and we were definitely doing it. Funny, I assumed it was always there... The 'You suck!' thing was still up for debate if I remember correctly and a lot of us didn't really buy into it (particularly when we yell it at an unranked team that was beating us at home).
Pretty neat that my alma maters face off in the super-regional - Michigan undergrad and UCLA grad. My rooting choice is easy as I've always been 100% Michigan and could never really get behind UCLA athletics. There's something strange about going to the Rose Bowl and watching 2 ranked teams battle while the stadium is half empty (half full?)... Go Blue!
If I read between the lines (which I really shouldn't do), this feels like more of coach calling out some players for disappearing during winter and now spring conditioning. Dwumfour's tweet says he's confused where the 'false information' is coming from... well, it's coming from your head coach.

I chose UCLA for grad school over Princeton (because of the specific program’s professors) and regret it. I have never regretted going to Michigan for undergrad.
But grad school is different than undergrad. Have her go to Michigan so she can enjoy the education and sports, and then head to an Ivy for a grad degree if necessary.
Seems like we struggle to use guys like Jackson beyond the obvious jet sweeps. That's why I'd be hesitant to move Evans to slot since that'd mean he'd only get 1 or 2 touches a game.
I thought Onwenu wanted to play guard - might be a tough sell late in his career when the obvious goal is to make the NFL.
It is strange to think that Mattison/Brown have less depth on their side of the line, but Paye and Uche might be closer than we all realized and I think Kemp has been consistently improving throughout his career.
This is spot on. We need corners who can play consistent man defense, so having weak spots at our #2 and #3 in combination with a very young DL puts our current style at risk. That being said, I assume Coach Brown will spend the offseason making necessary adjustments. I'll also add that I'm interested (and anxious?) to see how these taller/lanky CBs slot in next year... If the little bits of hype around Myles Sims pan out, we'll be ok despite a handful of inevitable 'young guys get caught looking' situations.
Mainly, let's all hope our offense progresses far enough that it can carry our D for the first month or so. The sky isn't falling, but it seems we're much further from the CFP (which also means we're further from turning A Game back into The Game come November).
Not that I want to lose anyone from the current class, but if we were to be lucky enough to land 4 or 5 of the guys on your list I'm sure some of our current commits would go elsewhere. 6 incoming DL that are all highly rated (or underrated) would be a haul, but I could see 2 or those guys wanting to be the gem in another school's class...
There is a difference between being cleared to play by a 3rd party vs feeling ready to mash in a D1 football game yourself. He knows his body, and according to the film has quietly battled this shoulder thing for many games (not to mention practices).
Perhaps you should consider giving this young leader the benefit of the doubt since: he's never done anything to hint that he's not a team player, he is also fully aware that Paye and Uche have been coming on in his absence, and Michigan needs him close to 100% for the remainder of the schedule (and hopefully playoffs).

My wife and I lived in Hermosa Beach around 2011/2012. Miss that place, but we're happy to be back in the midwest now, too.
I've been reading MGoBlog two to ten times per day since 2009. For my birthday gift to myself this year, I finally created an account:
1. Couzens was my dorm, and 14 years later I'm still am in contact with some of those floor-mates daily as we discuss all things Michigan
2. Self explanatory
