LT Jon Runyan Injured?

Submitted by Wolverine91 on August 22nd, 2019 at 11:35 PM

Numerous rumors that Jon Runyan injured his back in practice and will be out for a few weeks. Can anyone confirm of this? And if true, what does our Oline look like with our LT now out..

And just like that. Offensive line depth is back to hoke levels

please let the couple weeks part be true. Best week 3 bye week ever?

Word is Stueber was at LT when he got hurt...insinuating that Runyan was already out at the time (not sure why they didn't pay Mayfield there...)

Anyway, Hayes is LT. Warriner was pretty direct when he talked about having to get him ready.

Sounds like Runyan will miss a game or two. Nothing has been confirmed...just rumors that have picked up.

Rumor also has it that Trente Jones is pushing Honigford for backup RT and we have worked on a line where Mayfield plays LT, Bredeson RT and Spanellis or Filiaga come in at LG.

It seems like there is a lot if mixing and matching to see what works. They know the starting line, we know the starting line...now it's getting guys comfortable in different roles until game week when prep and chemistry is more important.

To be clear...neither Honigford or Jones is playing. Just 2nd team. I'd say OL rankings not including the two injured players is...

1. Bredeson/Ruiz

3. Onwenu

4. Mayfield

(drop)

5. Hayes

(sliiiight drop)

6. Spanellis

7. Filiaga

(CLIFF!!!)

8. Vastardis/Rumler

10. Carpenter (banged up)

11. Hogniford/Jones

(sliiiight drop)

12. Barnhart

13. Keegan/Robinson/Stewart

If Runyan was healthy he'd be tied for 1, Steuber would obviously be with Mayfield.

Warinner on Jansen's podcast made a comment on how DL vs OL was like war in practice and said that was a good thing (long pause) and a bad thing. I've never really heard a coach worry about guys going too hard in practice, but I'm guessing he was lamenting the injuries that had already happened at that point (he was talking about the Stueber one openly, but not Runyan).

I don't think that's true. The mgoblog post on Stueber getting hurt was 9 days ago. Runyan had a media interview posted by Isiah Hole 6 days ago. I really doubt they'd have put an injured player out there to talk to the media.

Don't forget we have an early bye week.

Target date for Runyan and for Ambry Thomas.

Hayes-Bredeson-Ruiz-Onwenu-Mayfield

... I'm still more concerned about CB. A lot of DJ Turner hype but he's still a freshman. I think it's going to be smoke and mirrors at CB opposite Hill.

Hill is going to have to be a lock down CB because he's not going to get any help.

I mean we were a bit banged up at the beginning of 2016 and made it through fine with Hawaii/Colorado/UCF.  Lewis was out first 3 weeks and starting corners were Stribling/Clark.  Taco got banged up during Hawaii and didn’t hit full stride until mid season.  Think Mone got banged up during camp as well and didn’t play much all year.

So it’ll be fine, right? Right. Right? Right.

Next man up, no excuses...have to find a way to deal with the inevitable injuries that occur every year.

Injuries happen to every team. It’s why consistent recruiting is crucial. Depth is what separates a good team from a championship contender, we will find out easy if we have it.

heres to a speedy recovery

OK. Thanks to umbig11, MaizeBlueA2, and DrMantisToboggan, I feel like I can quit drinking and go to bed until the next crisis.  Seems like we will be able to make our way through this one.

My liver and apnea affected brain thank the three of you very much.
