Impossible - the sky fell when Mattison and Washington left.  At least, it did if you listened to most people here.

As it turns out, we have a good coach who makes great hires. The sky is not falling.

Shocking news to like 80% of the whiners on this board, I know.

01/08/2019 - 11:47am Seems pretty pessimistic.

Seems pretty pessimistic.

Wisconsin and PSU games were blowouts last year.  No reason to think we'll automatically lose those this year even if they are away.

MSU is trash and will probably continue being trash, and is at home.

Army will likely lose.  It may be a tough game, but I'd be fairly surprised if we lost that.

10-2 again is a real possibility.

01/08/2019 - 11:41am There are maybe 2 games on…

There are maybe 2 games on the schedule I'd replace the IU game with before OSU, so it could be much worse.

Perhaps we don't actually get screwed or have it worse than anyone else and you are all a bunch of sad sack morons.

01/08/2019 - 7:24am Nah.

So what exactly are we trying to get Warde to do?

01/07/2019 - 1:54pm Imgagine if Don Brown also…

Imgagine if Don Brown also leaves meaning we'd have basically an entirely new defensive staff in 2019, and no changes are made on offense.

This place will be fun.

01/07/2019 - 12:06pm Even if it's a good game,…

Even if it's a good game, the stakes are so low for a NCG. Bama loses? Well, they'll probably win it next year. Same for Clemson.

No one outside of those fanbases cares if Clemson can win it all again, or if Bama can win it's 7th title in 10 years or whatever.

I'm not watching the game tonight. I just don't care what happens. I have to imagine I'm not the only one.

My MgoName/avatar refers to the album Wavering Radiant by the band ISIS (they were named this before the terrorist assholes became prevalent, and have since disbanded).  I was really digging that album around the time I made my account here.

Fwiw (not much), a friend told me that he heard from someone who would have a lot of reason to know that Hill and Long are both coming back.

Merry Christmas!

Edit: sorry for the confusion, it's Hill and Gentry for sure coming back, and Long is still deciding. Had a couple of Christmas Eve libations so I misremembered.

12/22/2018 - 12:44pm Not to be a downer, but OSU…

Not to be a downer, but OSU had a smaller class because they have fewer players leaving. That's basically the only reason ours is more highly rated. We have a great class, don't get me wrong, but this isn't exactly a case where OSU is falling behind on talent.

12/19/2018 - 9:24am I'm holding you to that 45…

I'm holding you to that 45 minutes, Brian.  Chop chop

Can confirm, having twins is hard.

12/18/2018 - 10:07am Bottom line is people need…

Bottom line is people need to calm the f down.  The program will go on.  We will likely win 10 or so games as long as Harbaugh is at the helm, and we will probably beat OSU at some point.

Just tune out the noise, because that's all this is.

12/17/2018 - 3:08pm lol we are consistently in…

lol we are consistently in the top 10 in class rankings

12/17/2018 - 2:51pm Could it just be that other…

Could it just be that other teams have a similar number of transfers, and it seems like Michigan has more because that's who you pay attention to?

12/17/2018 - 2:35pm Players transfer out of…

Players transfer out of every program (yes, even high-caliber former recruits).  I don't think we have had an abnormally high amount of transfers, but I'm open to being proven wrong.

12/17/2018 - 2:34pm And this is why I don't…

And this is why I don't really see it as a devastating loss.

Really sucks for depth, to be sure, but it's not like the dude was a game-changer while he was here.  He was largely irrelevant.

12/16/2018 - 7:07am Spoiler alert- they'll be…

Spoiler alert- they'll be just fine in recruiting and elsewhere.

12/12/2018 - 8:22am This is a sneakily tough…

This is a sneakily tough schedule.  Everyone was worried about the schedule going into this year, but I think 2019 may be tougher.

Army is always tough.  @Wisconsin and @PSU will be tough, though I think Wisconsin won't quite be back at the levels we're used to, and PSU has likely already passed its peak under Franklin.

Add in ND, MSU, and OSU, and nearly half of the schedule looks like a tossup right now.

Edit: and I didn't even catch Iowa.  Damn, 2019, you scary.

12/10/2018 - 10:14am I wouldn't have been shocked…

I wouldn't have been shocked.  OSU under Meyer had historical levels of success.  It's kind of hard to match that, particularly when you're inheriting a mess of a program like Harbaugh did.  OSU has lost a TOTAL of 9 games under Urban Meyer in 7 years.  We are just not at that level.  We are a hell of a lot closer than we were before Harbaugh got here, though.

And it's not like we have been outclassed every year.  We pretty much did win in 2016, if not for some creative reffing.

12/10/2018 - 8:17am I get that the OSU game…

I get that the OSU game sucked, but I'm increasingly annoyed at Brian and a lot of the posters here with your "BPONE" bullshit.

The football team still hasn't won a conference title.  That sucks.  But the reality is that Harbaugh has either pretty much met or exceeded expectations for the team 3 of the 4 years he's been here.  Even 2017 was about right for expectations heading into the year, and that's after we had a QB carousel due to injury.  The football team is better now than it has been since probably 2006, and looks to remain good-to-great for the foreseeable future.  We've been a top 10 team in 3 of 4 years with Harbaugh at the helm.  Not a lot of teams can say that in the last 4 years.

Basically, quit yer bitching.  The sky is not falling.

12/05/2018 - 9:49am This is a ridiculous premise…

This is a ridiculous premise, but hell, football season is effectively over so why not entertain it?

2015:  Result would have been the same.  That OSU squad was just flat out more talented.  And pissed off.

2016:  Likely UM win.

2017:  OSU wins.  Same reason as 2015.

2018:  Likely OSU win.  That OSU team is imperfect, but Urban had them playing ridiculous ball.  UM had the perceived upper hand going into the game, but unless some major flaws in the defensive gameplan were addressed, we weren't going to win with the way their offense was playing that day.  And even then, I'm not sure we could have stopped them frequently enough.

So, to your point, even if we had Urbz as coach the last 4 years going against Urbz (OSU version), we likely wouldn't be in a much better position.  That said, it's impossible to know how recruiting would have changed over those years, so we have to assume that everything except coaching during the games would be the same.

To be fair, it must be pretty rare to find someone who actually wants to be at Rutgers.

11/26/2018 - 7:12am Thanks for posting this - I…

Thanks for posting this - I meant to look this up myself - I knew the list of programs with 10+ wins 3 of the last 4 years couldn't be too long

11/24/2018 - 6:10pm You got any names?  I'd be…

You got any names?  I'd be glad to hear them.

How many other teams have won 10 or more games 3 of the last 4 years?  Not many.

Sure, we haven't won the conference.  Turns out, it's pretty fucking hard to do that when you're in it with OSU led by Meyer, not to mention PSU and MSU.

11/24/2018 - 6:08pm I don't even think that's…

I don't even think that's true.  In 2016 we were absolutely one of the best 4 teams in the country and came a literal inch short from a probable playoff berth.

This year we shit the bed in an important game but can probably play with most teams in the country.  We haven't hit the ceiling yet.

11/24/2018 - 5:51pm Every big game?

This is the…

Every big game?

This is the problem.  The goalposts are constantly moving.  MSU-PSU-Wisconsin was a gauntlet that we passed with flying colors.  2016 and 2015 featured multiple big games we performed well in.

We just haven't beaten OSU.  Yeah, that sucks.  But let's just be realistic about it.  OSU is the 2nd best program in the country.  We aren't there yet.  We are much closer than we were before Harbaugh got here, though.

11/24/2018 - 5:47pm Our fanbase will be better…

Our fanbase will be better off without people like you in it anyway.

11/24/2018 - 5:45pm Michigan cannot…

Michigan cannot realistically hire a better coach than Harbaugh.

Sure, maybe we could pay someone less money to do marginally worse, but so what?  Harbaugh is the best coach we can get.  He's won 10 games in 3 of his 4 seasons.  Carr didn't even do that.  Michigan is competitive again.

Unfortunately, OSU is just at a historic high.  Firing a very good coach isn't going to fix any problems.

11/24/2018 - 5:28pm That game really sucked.

That game really sucked.

Anyone who even implies Harbaugh should be fired is a fucking moron.
