Independent school Director…

Independent school Director of Admissions here…while I am biased in terms of my preference, it boils down to what do the parents want for their kids and what type of experience do they want to give them. Answering that question will allow them to formulate what type of schools they should look at, whether public, private, or Catholic/religious.

I went to public school until 9th grade, then went to all-boys Catholic high school. My kids are currently going to a public school. My nieces and nephews have had a variety of educational experiences. In the end, it’s up to the family as to what makes sense and what school makes their kid/kids feel welcome, wanted, and excited about being there.

I blame my older brother. He always watched Michigan football and basketball growing up, so naturally I watched alongside him. He also took me to my first Michigan football game in 1989 against Maryland where we sat in the student section. I remember the score, the marshmallows thrown on the field, and sitting next to a rather attractive coed.

I then went to Michigan and was a student manager for the football team under Lloyd Carr. That was an incredible experience.

Good kid, good family

I met the kid and the family when he was in 6th grade - good people all around. I know his dad is a Michigan alum, so he's continuing one family tradition. (Just wish he had gone to his dad's high school alma mater, but that's another story...)

As demographics show for As demographics show for Metro Detroit for at least the next 6-8 years, the number of school-age children drops considerably, so everyone is going to be experiencing an enrollment decline very soon, regardless of location. I know that all but one Detroit-area Catholic high schools saw a dip in their freshmen enrollment this past year.
Don't tell that to former

Former basketball coaches Bernie Holowicki or Rick Coratti would disagree.

This move really doesn't make

This move really doesn't make any sense, especially for a coach who was putting his own stamp on the program. This year's varsity team rebounded from a horrendous 2015 and the lower levels seem solid as well, and it seemed like the program was still in line with the Rice football tradition.

The entire power structure at Brother Rice has changed in the past couple years and it almost seems like the school wants to redefine itself, but doesn't know how to do it. The president and principal are in their first year at the school, and the AD (who is an alum) is in his second year. Several veteran faculty members have also recently retired, adding to the "identity crisis". While the overall athletic program is still very good, the school has seen a decent drop in enrollment to under 600 kids and very small freshman class this year. Firing the football coach could be a bit of a tipping point for the school, especially with alumni who are not happy about the move.

To add some fuel to the rumor

To add some fuel to the rumor fire, his high school football coach, Paul Verska, now works for the CMU football program in an administrative capacity - http://cmuchippewas.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/paul_verska_1024096.html.

Mike Gill!

Mike's a good guy - I've gotten to know him pretty well the past several years.

Maryland/Michigan 1989 That was the first Michigan game I attended and as a seven year-old, I sat in the student section with my brother. Needless to say, it was an eye-opening experience.
What? Are you saying What? Are you saying Nebraska/Texas from 1996 isn't a classic B1G game? /s
I presume that Curtis I presume that Curtis Blackwell sent out this tweet from Dantonio's account (though with Dantonio probably approving the language).

Who did MSU supposedly pay in their most recent basketball recruiting class?

Then...

Then why do keep you posting if you could care less about what random posters on MGoBlog believe?

Extra days They still get extra days at Thanksgiving as well.
Dress down day for exams Students were allowed to dress down for semester exams if they brought in their quota for "Pledge Detroit", which replaced the Walkathon five years ago.
Interesting... Boston College has offered Scotty Nelson out of U of D, I believe, as a defensive back - I wonder if Harbaugh is seeing him on a recommendation from Don Brown. On a side note, my nephew is the kid wearing the red sweater in the photo - he picked the wrong day to wear red.

A certain local flamethrower

A certain local flamethrower (Brian's words) tweeted this out earlier today, though he did say it was, in part, because of the comments he made regarding the "Block M"/Denard Robinson. I know there were several football alums who were not happy with what Lochmann had said.
