Beat Penn State. No idea what to make of this team. By the advanced stats, they are solidly a top 10 team but they haven't looked like a complete team for the last 3 weeks.
October 28th, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
That was McShay saying it, not Griese.

You have not been paying attention to Chase's repeated comments. This is Michigan's Revenge Tour and Penn State is ABSOLUTELY front and center on their list.
It is very good thing the Chase has added a Slogan Tag Line (#RevengeTour2018) for this season. It focuses the team on their mission and helps prepare them for this game.
If there is any game that someone should even remotely worry about is @Indiana (although I expect a dull workmanship game where they grind them into dust).
This team will be ready this Saturday. Don Brown will be able to sleep after this game (then again maybe not cause he knows there is 1 more stop on the Revenge Tour).
October 28th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
I might agree with you re Indiana if the game were at Indiana. But we get the Hoosiers at home. So I'm not worried about that one. And I'm certainly not worried about @Rutger.
October 28th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
Yeah, that IU game will be the final home game for Chase, Higdon, Kinnel, possibly Bush, et al. It's not going to be a good time for the Hoosiers.

Was he trying to remember the words to Michigan My Michigan - the unofficial song of the State of Michigan? Let me help him:
Michigan, My Michigan
Home of my heart, I sing of thee! Michigan, My Michigan,
Thy lake-bound shores I long to see,
Michigan, my Michigan.
From Saginaw's tall whispering pines
To Lake Superior's farthest mines,
Fair in the light of memory shines
Michigan, my Michigan.
Thou gav'st thy sons without a sigh,
Michigan, my Michigan,
And sent thy bravest forth to die,
Michigan, my Michigan.
Beneath a hostile southern sky
They bore thy banner proud and high,
Ready to fight but never fly,
Michigan, my Michigan.
From Yorktown on to Richmond's wall,
Michigan, my Michigan,
They bravely fight, as bravely fall,
Michigan, my Michigan.
Their strong arms crumble in the dust,
And their bright swords all have gathered rust;
Their memory is our sacred trust,"
Michigan, my Michigan.
And when the happy time shall come,
Michigan, my Michigan,
That brings thy war-worn heroes home,
Michigan, my Michigan,
What welcome from their own proud shore,
What honors at their feet we'll pour,
What tears for those who'll come no more,
Michigan, my Michigan.
A grateful country claims them now,
Michigan, my Michigan,
And deathless laurel binds each brow,
Michigan, my Michigan;
And history the tale will tell,
Of how they fought and how they fell,
For that dear land they loved so well,
Michigan, my Michigan.

20 Michigans, 1 Michigam.
Good luck preparing for both.

Great catch. Dummy typed that whole thing out. Didn’t even use the copy paste function.

October 28th, 2018 at 9:43 AM ^
Number 16 should be Don BrowM, and you did 21 because ... one to grow on? Desmond's catch is your favorite? Junior Hemingway wore #21 for 5 yrs. and had to endure both Rodriguez and Hoke and deserved better?
October 28th, 2018 at 9:21 AM ^
This is going to be a tough one next week I hope Michigan is ready to lock down Mcsorley. I have faith Don Brown is most certainly not f*cking around this week.
I am expected UM to come out a bit flat though. Glad this game is at home.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:45 AM ^
McSorley as a player concerns me but please, for the love of God, do not give him any cause to do that stupid Shirley Temple salute/home run swing combo.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:51 AM ^
Were going to kill McSorley and is it just me or does Franklin seem goofier than usual this year? He acts like a coach in the hot seat whos about to lose his job, the guy is goofier than hell.
October 28th, 2018 at 10:26 AM ^
Their backup QB is good.
October 28th, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
Was thinking the same. Don Brown needs to factor that guy in.
October 28th, 2018 at 11:31 AM ^
He's always been goofy..
October 28th, 2018 at 11:57 AM ^
Haha amen to that!
October 28th, 2018 at 9:22 AM ^
Big week for the top-10 in general:
Alabama @ LSU
Georgia @ Kentucky
West Virginia @ Texas
Penn State @ Michigan
October 28th, 2018 at 9:26 AM ^
Texas ain’t no top 10
October 28th, 2018 at 9:30 AM ^
Niether is WVU, once their B12 'defense' is exposed again. That game will be another shootout - first one to 40 wins...
October 28th, 2018 at 12:08 PM ^
Nope, but you know these will be ‘highly anticipated’ and highly hyped games by the media. Just want Oklahoma to lose again, then all will be right in the Top-10.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:26 AM ^
He does this every week with Penn State’s opponent. Not really newsworthy.
October 28th, 2018 at 10:36 AM ^
You're not looking hard enough for reasons to be insulted here! Consider:
He typed out Michigan 21 times. Plus, he typed "Michigam" once.
He typed out each of Indiana and Iowa 30 times.
He typed out Michigan State 29 times but abbreviated it as "Mich St" instead of typing out the full name of the school (MASSIVE disrespekt!!!!!)
He typed out Ohio St 16 times
PSU loses any time Franklin is lazy and types the name of the opponent 21 or less times, or disrespekts the opponent.
October 28th, 2018 at 11:04 AM ^
21 or fewer
But yeah, obvi that means we win
October 28th, 2018 at 9:29 AM ^
Glad to see we’re keeping him up at night. Next Saturday night, he’ll sleep like a baby: he’ll wake up every two hours and cry.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:30 AM ^
He clearly doesn’t know how to copy/paste since one is spelled with an m at the end. How do you write the same thing that many times without using control c/v
October 28th, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^
same thought. this should be show cause for firing.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:31 AM ^
I don’t think the advanced stats say they’re solidly a top 10 team. S&P has them as 10 and FEI has them at 19, before this last game. I would say they’re solidly top 20
October 28th, 2018 at 10:05 AM ^
ESPN FPI has them #7. Sagarin has them at #7 as well. Teamrankings.com has them at #6. Regardless, their statistical profile seems stronger than their recent eyeball test to me.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
Franklin believes thinking about Michigan a week before the game will help him? Don Brown's been thinking about PSU for a year.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
James Franklin is an absolute tool!
He tried to ice his own kicker before halftime yesterday. What a moron.
Let kick some Penn State ass next week!!!
October 28th, 2018 at 9:36 AM ^
1: Franklin does this every week with their next opponent.
2: Coaches don’t get a lot of sleep during the season.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:37 AM ^
Stop McSorley running and Michigan wins. I predict 34 to 24 Michigan.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^
That's funny. You think Don Brown, the man that has woken up in anger thinking about PSU every day for a year, is going to let them score 24 points?
Hahahahha
October 28th, 2018 at 9:55 AM ^
If McSorley is running good it’s possible.
And who is to say Michigan isn’t up 34 to 17 late in the 4th and psu gets the normal junk td?
I don’t care if Michigan wins 100-0 or 7-6...just need this win.
being 2-2 against MSU, 2-1 against wisc and 3-1 against psu is good for jimmy.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:40 AM ^
PSU is probably going to be ranked ~13th. 12th if somebody feels Texas should drop to 13th or if the committee forgets to give kentucky the free SEC pass and bumps it back to 13 or 14 where it belongs, with OSU back up to 10 or even 9. It would theoretically be plausible for the committee to slot PSU at the 10th, but it probably goes to WV. It will be a weird week to start the committees rankings since 5 of the likely top 10 didn't play this weekend, and five had convincing wins (if you count WV).
Last night was a bloodbath; the entire bottom half of the top 25 lost last night with the exception of Utah (23), PSU(17), and well who knows what SEC call to allow Kentucky(14) its last second win against... Missouri. That's 9 teams probably no longer ranked, or close to it. (Iowa probably still ranked). Plenty of new blood in the top 25 I'm sure.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
Stanford's loss was pretty delightful, both as a Cal alum and due to Shaw's recruiting wins over Michigan.
October 28th, 2018 at 10:11 AM ^
Roll on you bears
October 28th, 2018 at 9:42 AM ^
They may consider this a rivalry game. Not sure if anyone else does tho.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:43 AM ^
Consider it a revenge game.
October 28th, 2018 at 10:53 AM ^
Upvoted.
Since we're talking about rivalries, I've been interested in Penn State's "UNRIVALED" branding campaign. Uhhh, yeah. We don't want Penn State as a "rival." We have great, historical ties to our rivals. Personally, I always have a hard time thinking of Penn State as a Big Ten Conference member. It's been a good football program, to be certain. But to me Penn State is more Rutgers than Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern or Iowa. And nowhere near Ohio State, Notre Dame or Little Brother.
"Unrivaled"? Not our rivals as far as I am concerned.
October 28th, 2018 at 11:00 AM ^
According to many people (including many on this board) PSU is our rival when we lose to them (fitting the narrative of "can't beat our rivals") but not when we beat them. ...the ever-shifting goal posts.
October 28th, 2018 at 11:22 AM ^
It’s a big game, whether or not you consider it a rivalry. I want payback against those guys. I know Brown does too.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:43 AM ^
He tweets this at the beginning of every week. just insert whichever team Penn State is playing that week.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:45 AM ^
I wasn't trying to suggest it was unique to us, just thought the timing was hilarious.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^
Michigam? I don't know if I'm impressed that he decided to type out Michigan every single time or disappointed that he doesn't know how to Ctrl+V.
October 28th, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
There's some concern about PSU, and there probably should be. Their offense is capable of hitting big plays, even against Don Brown's defense. And they will get a few of them. But if they aren't plays that go into the end zone, or, at least, only one or two of them go in, they won't be able to keep up. That offense, IMO, is not capable of grinding out yards and controlling the clock. Whether they get a few big play TDs, or not, isn't going to matter if they can't keep Michigan's defense on the field.
I'm not at all impressed with their defense, and don't see, in any way, how they'll be able to stop the Harbaughffense. Iowa had open receivers all day with a crap QB that can't run, and the RB went for ~5ypc against them. We all know M averages ~34 minutes ToP, and I'm saying it'll be closer to 40 minutes in this game - just like last week against MSU. I just don't see that defense getting M off the field.
So, combine that - a quick strike offense that doesn't grind yards or control for ToP, with a middling defense that doesn't hang its hat on any particularly good aspect - against a home team dominates the LoS, ToP, and has playmaking athletes in places where Iowa doesn't even look.
For the life of me, I just can't see PSU staying in this game beyond the midway part of the 3rd quarter...

I hope McSorley has flashbacks every time he sees long blond hair.
