I’m talking about a book about the Chicago fire that does have a decent bit about the peshtigo fire in it.
but you have to chime in like usual with hey what about this other event that I know so much about because I’m not some sheep that doesn’t think for themselves. It’s like I tell my young children just because I’m complimenting one doesn’t mean the opposite for the other. There’s only so much room and time, I’m not going to cover all aspects of an event in a message board post when I’m just trying to give a book recommendation
It’s not even the media. Chicago was one of the fastest growing cities ever at that time. It was becoming known around the world. The aftermath of the fire affected so many many more people and the political and economic outcome of a major city. A city that had multiple major periodicals.
a lot of people died and a ton of timber was burnt up in the peshtigo fire but it wasn’t much more than a company town.
The media in Chicago at the time definitely had an impact in what happened to the recovery. In fact a decent amount of this book is about that especially with medill getting elected mayor in the immediate aftermath
You are just ignoring the context of both fires to knock the media in a disingenuous attempt to appear more independent minded.
It talks about that too and Ogden’s involvement in both.
i mean I get that it killed more people and destroyed more land but if you can’t see why the Chicago fire would be more well known you are being intentionally obtuse
I’m a pretty good home cook and I manage to slice my finger pretty good on a mandolin once every couple years. I always make sure to have a bottle of that liquid bandaid stuff around
I liked pointing out that what we are annoyed at is msu having a lead at all, and psu (a top 10 team at that point) having any success. Puts into perspective just how dominant M has been.
On the hurdle, I actually thought Turner was trying to protect the guy from hurting himself. It looked like he was trying to make sure he landed flat on his back rather than at an awkward angle.
The blocked punt came right after CJ barely missed blocking a Rutgers punt because their punter recognized an unblocked guy pulled scrambled and got of a kick that end up rolling a bunch of yards. If the punter had just kicked it the first time it probably would have been 6 the other way. It’s weird how it feels like so often in college football when a team just misses something big the other team comes out and does just that.
Cancel culture is just another churned up moral panic to divert the attention of the 99.9999% of people who it will never affect from the real grievances they should have
I don’t love the idea of relegation for non-professionals.
and with recruiting being so critical to college it seems like it would be a lot harder to climb back up because it will be way harder to recruit after being relegated. Seems like it might be even worse for any kind of attempt at better parity
I grew up a Miami fan so I might be biased but I think that one sounds pretty good. You do the three syllables in Miami pretty quickly then draw out the “er” in the first syllable of hurricane.
