come on. the 1989 team was basically a pro team, and would kill virtually all current college teams. the rules have changed and thus players like this are not around (for long) in the college game anymore.

01/02/2019 - 12:49am I used to think it was…

I used to think it was cyclical; now I just think a sea change occurred and we, alas, are on the down side of it. Unless OSU hires a real bomb of a coach, I don't think we'll be 50/50 in The Game in the rest of my life. We will win once in a while, but it'll be a surprise when we do.

The whole mystery about Meyer's "loyalty" to Zach Smith, btw, I find pretty funny. Let's say you're Urban Meyer, a "top" recruiter in this time of relatively dirty college football recruiting. We can either believe that (a) Meyer is somehow the most convincing son of a bitch there is or (b) he too finds a way to "play the game". Cue Zach Smith, the biggest douche bag on the planet, and an alleged wife beater to boot. Somehow, Meyer is supremely loyal to this douchebag. Now why would that be? And somehow, this douchebag is also a "good recruiter". 2+2 makes 4 here, which is this: Zach Smith knows how OSU recruiting actually works. If Meyer cut him loose, some of the truth might get out. Instead, Meyer feigns loyalty and Zach keeps mum. Ah, fuck all of them.

The reason it maintains a lofty reputation is because the faculty there are the best in the world. Look at almost any department they have and they are top 10. Sure, CS classes are crowded, but that is true on *every* campus right now.

I think Brian indeed should make a sacrifice - and it is to do an OSU UFR. The Football Gods are punishing his reluctance to chart the game of our sacred enemy by ensuring we lose to them forever. Only by suffering can our dear leader forge a path to victory.

This is a really bad take. So let's say you're in a relatively not well off family. Let's say you're about to get drafted and change that. You'd play one more game because of "the team"?  Seems pretty dumb.

I mostly agree with you, but it's the how we got to 10-2 that people are unhappy with. I think a lot of people would feel *very* different if the last game had been 40-39 instead of what it was.

12/10/2018 - 8:17am I think the coaching staff…

I think the coaching staff needs to do something to make this game mostly about fun and not so much about grinding out a win. If they figure that out -- clever gameplan, some fun new tweaks, etc. -- it could be great. If they just go vanilla, it will be a bad game with a bad outcome.

There is only one way this is going to change - Ryan Day turning into a big flop. Here is the good news: the chances are he will not be as good as Urban Meyer.
