Preview 2022: Wrap
Hello. You have reached the end. This year's preview adds up to 56,811 words. Thanks to everyone quoted, and Seth and Alex for picking up OL and LB, respectively.
The Stepped Upon
Preview: Colorado State. Take my Nevada, please.
Opponent Watch Part 1. Nonconference? More like noncompetitive.
Opponent Watch Part 2. To Mordor we will go.
The Story
City of Stairs. How to handle a breakthrough: build.
Offense
Quarterback: Guy who led Michigan to Big Ten championship may not keep his job because absurd five star is entering year two.
Running Back: Mike Hart, but fast! Chris Evans, but targeted! Short yardage a question.
Wide Receiver: Last year's crew plus Ronnie Bell. Giggity.
Tight End: Two mid-round NFL draft picks, plus a horde of youngsters.
Offensive Tackle: NFL-ish left tackle and a good story on the right.
Interior OL: Plug and play Rimington finalist plus two guys on the verge of blowups.
Five Questions, Five Answers: QB, dunno; Gattis, meh; short yardage, ok; flea flickers, ALL OF THEM.
Defense
Defensive Interior: Arrows straight up. Depth a bit wobbly.
Edge: Chris Wormley 2.0, and… can I interest you in Chris Wormley 2.0?
Linebacker: If it goes bad this is the most likely spot.
Cornerback: Five star can't miss and a guy who could but didn't.
Safety: Catch ball plz.
Five Questions, Five Answers: Macdonald a loss, Minter a fine option. Hope you like blitzes. Ben Herbert: that dude?
Miscellaneous
Special Teams: I AM THE GREATEST, quoth JayBaugh
Podcast 14.0A: All the offense stuff above in one two hour audio block.
Podcast 14.0B: Same, but defense.
Podcast 14.0C: Looking around the league.
Heuristics and Stupid Prediction: 10-2.

Thank you to everyone who wrote something to me over the past year. It was good to hear that what I've done here is valued. Thanks to Alex and Seth for picking up the slack. I—we—are very lucky that probably the only other person on the planet who could do UFR was already on staff. This year we're splitting those duties in the hope that we can find a sustainable model going forward.
Let's play some football.

Comrade Brian -- we love you! Thanks for all you've done to enrich our lives. You've had to follow the team obsessively when it was horribly unfun to do so. Hopefully the last 12 months have been extra rewarding as a result.

When it's all combined together in one location like this, it really does show the impressive amount and quality of work that goes into each season's preview. Thank you.

Rock on. Excellent work, and much appreciated. Go Blue.
September 2nd, 2022 at 6:45 PM ^
Thanks Brian. And thanks to Seth, Alex, and all you guys, we are a very lucky fanbase to have you, The best college sports blog and the best college sports culture anywhere. By a mile.

I relish this content. Thank you to Alex, Brian, and Seth for all the great content you put out. Brian, loved the Story, and it’s great to see you back and sounding healthy.
Michigan has a promising football team. It’s a beautiful evening. The season is upon us, and anything is possible. Enjoy tonight, enjoy tomorrow, and Go Blue.

Good to have you back Brian. We only met once but I understand how difficult divorce can be and hope you are coming out the other side now.
FWIW I met the absolute love of my life right about the time I found this site. Like most of us i lurked for a while until I got the courage to post something but my experience here almost completely mirrors my 2nd and MUCH better marriage.
And lastly you didn’t create something good here, you (and Seth) created something GREAT here.
I’m so happy you’re back and writing again. Even if I don’t quite understand the meaning of posts like “City of stairs” (and definitely not mattresses) I enjoy reading them because you’re a terrific writer.
September 2nd, 2022 at 6:56 PM ^
Let’s Go Blue. Glad to have you back, Brian. Can’t wait to read one of your UFRs again.
September 2nd, 2022 at 6:57 PM ^
Brian-
I was banned over 10 years ago, and then you or someone else let me come back after some time. In April of 2018 I was banned for 30 days for a political joke. (HC and Donald lolz '\_( '-')_/')
I still followed.
I've been here for a long fucking time, 0 to 4 kids, making shit money to more money than I could dream of, living abroad and domestic.
I say this with a clear mind, that this was your best preseason in content. Not even fucking close dude.
FWIW, good job man. You did this despite stuff going on in your life you brought up.

Thank you. As ridiculous as it sounds coming from a grown man with two kids, I truly love reading this here blog about the sports of my alma mater. It's one of the things I look forward to every day and for some bizarre reason I never stopped looking forward to it, even when pretty much everything was going to shit. I'm glad you've kept it up, I'm glad Seth is here, Alex is a keeper and the community is top notch.

Brian - I don't think I've ever addressed a Mgoblog staffer in my time here lurking or posting, but thank you for all you do, and all that you've created through your hard work and dedication to Michigan sports
And it's really none of my business but you look brighter, happier and healthier this preseason compared to years past. So cheers and go blue!

It is time.
It is America’s greatest game.
No sport better utilizes patience to heighten its appeal.
You must wait one week for each game. One week to celebrate or lament; one week to anticipate; one week to worry and to build excitement.
There are only 12 games. Every single one matters. Every moment matters. A single play can change an entire season.
And then it’s over. And you must wait again. 8 months to look backward and look forward.
For the first time in years, the taste looking backward was sweet, and not bitter. It was the taste of victory over Ohio State.
Now, the waiting is over. Now we begin again. Now, once more, we enter the breach.
And it’s great.
Go Blue.

LFG! Glad to have Brian back in his Brian-est capacity and making many words! What he's done here is mucho valued. This place isn't the same without him. Also, thanks to the O-JA-BO thundersack for shaking off some ennui about UM Football, possibly!
12-0, capped with a 42-27 win in Columbus is my scorching hot taek prediction for this year's Wolverines.

Brian, reading The Story and hearing you on MGoRadio, it’s like you have climbed out of the seventh circle of BPONE and reached, if not paradise, then whatever you were feeling post-Harbaugh hire. It’s great to have you back, and thanks to Seth, Alex, and the rest of the MGoStaff for all of the great content over the years.

September 2nd, 2022 at 11:59 PM ^
Brian,
The quality and quantity of content that this site produces is unequaled. Thank you for this amazing creation!
And if you and Seth will be sharing UFR duties this year, does that mean one person will be doing the offense and the other will be doing the defense each week? Hoping that this means UFRs will be more likely to drop earlier in the week :)

Nice preview. I figure you have us losing @ OSU. Who is your 2nd loss? A pesky IA team playing under the lights. Or PSU at home. I sure hope we take care of State!

I have never posted before though I have been lurking on the blog for 15 years or more through the depths of the RichRod and Brady Hoke years. MgoBlog has been consistently excellent in its content even with some pretty bad teams.
This past year has been one of the best years to be a Michigan football fan, both from watching the team play and from following the team on MGoBlog. Seth and the guys did a great job stepping up to the task of keeping MGoBlog informative and entertaining. The MGoBlog content over the past couple of weeks has reached new levels of great with Brian and his tremendous writing.
Brian, Seth, Alex and everyone else who contributed to making MGoBlog the best, THANKS.
