Thanks for the rejoinder
Seems like Urban is responding well to warranted criticism from his tenure at Florida and doing his best to have the football team reflect well on the university.

I really enjoyed reading the diary; it was nuanced and appreciative of reasonable dissension among Michigandom. I love MgoBlog but agree that often one perspective is trumpeted and other views are inexorably mistaken.

Third game at South Bend...just wanted to comment on tickets
Previously I was able to get tickets while walking around tailgates for less than $100. Back in 2012, I was 40 yard line way up to the top of the stadium for $80. Tickets were going for more than $250 on Stub Hub. It may be different with the last game for the foreseeable future but I plan on bringing a few hundred bucks with me and looking to scalp with cash pregame.

Just started ATT U-Verse (previously had Comcast) and love it. I'm paying $95 and was given free HBO / Showtime for 3 months with $300 back for switching in Visa debit cards.
Comcast was previously $205 a month with cable and internet (BTN, FSD, HBO, and AMC). Once we canceled our service, Comcast agreed to lower our bill to $100.
I honestly plan to switch from ATT to Comcast every year to take advantage of the promotional rates. Internet and TV quality is about the same. Anything more than $100 a month seems pretty outrategous for one DVR box, HD, Cable, and internet. Also, lots more free movie channels with ATT.

But a bit of a sad panda over this signing
Red Wings have excellent forward depth (especially is Weiss is servicable). If the prospects are so valued, let's get them on the roster and in meaningful situations. If not, let's try to upgrade the defense by packaging Tartar and a few draft picks for Mike Green or Tyler Myers. I have a lot of respect for the Management team but our decisions are not consistent.
Let's go with youth, trade the prospects and try to win now with Z and Datsyuk are the end of their primes, or a middle path of losing a prospect or two to shore up key deficiencies on the team (read defense). The Wings seem to be rudder-less; although, cap space is still a non-issue and a trade may be in the works.

I worked in Canada for a bit during college and always have fine memories of that great nation. Only country I know where you can play ultimate frisbee on the Capitol lawn.
Regarding Keith's, I used to make my friend's g/f (lived in Windsor) bring me cases over the border whenever possible. I was very disappointed when they broke up.
Best wishes to Canadians everywhere, Happy Canada Day

I don't want Coach Babcock to leave the Red Wings but if he was to leave the team I would like to lose him to my other hockey team. Go Wings and Go Blue!
Still, I find it unlikely for Babcock to leave the NHL, yet I'm encouraged it may be for Michigan if he decides to take a breather. It's more probable he takes a Canadian NHL job and after leading that franchise to a Stanley Cup championship he will ascend into Canada heaven after his bronze statue is placed on Parliament Hill.

I have a good friend from college who coined an inimitable phrase that applies strongly to this thread.
Congratulations all! You are members of the "Michigan Self-Dick Sucking Club." This affliction affects students at every fancy pants university.
Apropos to nothing, the same buddy gave me his ID and allowed to party at Rick's from age 19. I've never recovered.

I graduated in the spring and moved to Chicago in the summer. I didn't even bother watching the first half of the Horror. I went to Duffy's at halftime (first of many epic blackouts) and numerous doctors and lawyers (read old people to me at the time) were just screaming in rage. After we missed the kick, the bar went completely silent. I have never seen anything like that before or since.
Happy Thursday Everybody!!!

I love excel and have not heard of it [Index Match functions]. I'll migrate out of vlookup / hlookup for the index match formulas--way more functional.

I remember after he blew up in Philly after we released him (not sure about this) or whatever. All the talking heads were saying how Ken Holland and the wings "made a big mistake"
Where's Leino now after that huge contract?
Ken Holland and Babcock always have the benefit of any doubt I have with their actions, those guys are the best in the business for a reason.
Really excited for the wings this year! I thought we were years away from another cup but I think we're close to contention!

We need a shooting guard
Stuckey is great off the bench but we need someone to drain jumpers after defenses collapse on Drummond and Monroe
I think Dumars made the right call. He even picked up a good option at the point in the 2nd Round in Siva.
Joey D has been up / down. He assembled the only NBA champion without a superstar. He drafted Darko. He also drafted Drummond and Monroe. He traded Grant Hill for Wallace and Chucky Atkins. He also signed Charlie V and Gordon to extremely generous contracts.
The comparisons to Matt Millen are absurd. Joey D constructed teams went to 6 conference finals in a row. If the Lions went to the NFC championship game 6 times consecutively, we would build a statute of the GM involved. He knows this year is a make or break year. If we make the play-offs, he keeps his job. If not, he's done.
To suggest that Joe Dumars has done anything but try to make the Pistons better---is laughable. I'm sure we have several contributors who are in the basketball hall of fame like Joe Dumars. Or have constructed NBA championship rosters. Let the man do his job. If he fails, you won't have Joey D to kick around anymore.
Also, people are forgetting that Davidson dying didn't do him any favors. The ownership vacuum doesn't help attract free agents or the absence of a clear mandate from the folk's writing the checks.

I did the undergraduate business program too so that was a bit of a time suck as well.
I had so much fun, but you need to have the right mentality. I did not mind kids getting hammered and watching them puke in the bathroom while I made sure they didn't die. If you hate getting abruptly woken up at 3 in the morning because some girl broke up with her b/f or a pledge for a fraternity lost his keys----you probably shouldn't do this.
I am pretty tight with my former residents and saved a bunch of money from the free room / board.
If you have the right personality do it for sure! You need to like people and learning about people and putting up with their nonsense; it's great training for the "real world"
Hours aren't bad at all. I was at Ross, on the ultimate frisbee team, and had a few other jobs while an RA (I needed to pay for school), I may be weird but I made it work.
Regardless, I would stop living with your parents as soon as possible.
Holler at me if you have additional questions:

|1 year 9 weeks ago||Wonderful responses!||
I really enjoyed reading everyone's thoughtful opinions.
I went to Michigan and graduated from the undergrad business program and had access to the best firms in the world for a position out of school. I think certain programs (business and engineering for example) at Umich allow you to do whatever you want.
A few thoughts about schools:
1. My buddy from high school is a genius (perfect ACT, LSAT, and GMAT score). He went to Harvard twice and currently excels at a world class consulting firm (read McKinsey, BCG, etc.).
a.) When he started at Harvard for undergrad, I asked him what it was like studying with the smartest kids in the world. He said he didn't know; his roommates just cheated off him.
b.) My thought is that a third of kids at fancy schools belong to be there, a third are rich kids (legacies) that are smart enough to make it work, and a third are rich kids who can buy their way in
c.) The smartest kids / most successful people understand that it's just a house of cards and don't need a piece of paper to achieve their goals. I'd love to see the number of Fortune 1000 companies started by drop-outs of fancy schools.
Anyways, I always marveled how 18 / 19 year old kids thought their lives were over when they didn't get into the business school or when seniors didn't get into the law / medical program they had their hearts set on. If a small hiccup like a rejection from an academic program will derail your life---you wouldn't achieve your goals anyway.
Good luck, sounds like she doesn't need it. For my kids, I would stress going to a university where you can get really drunk before sporting events and also have world class academics. Very few places can have both, which is why I feel Michigan is so special.
