Lane Kiffin is interested in the Florida St. job
This, and water is wet. I don't know why, but I thought this was funny.
Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin has expressed his interested in Flordia State's vacant coaching job, according to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd.

The balls on that guy. Stating that while still employed at FAU.

To be fair to Lane this is via "sources" and not a statement directly from him.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:28 PM ^
I wouldn't put it past him.
November 4th, 2019 at 4:00 PM ^
"sources" = Joey Freshwater
November 4th, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
FAU already knew what they were getting when they hired him.

My response to Lane Kiffin...

Hasnt it been documented he likes to dangle those very balls next to young, attractive college girls? Lots of those at FSU.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:16 PM ^
I could actually see him being a decent force there.
But will he get a look from FSU? Prob not.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
based on what exactly?
November 4th, 2019 at 3:36 PM ^
Just my non-insider opinion.

Yes, hello, I would like to express my interest in being Apple CEO
November 4th, 2019 at 12:18 PM ^
Someone tell him Jen Sterger already graduated from FSU.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:32 PM ^
That's ok. There's a LOT of replacement Jen Sterger's on campus right now. I'm sure Lane would do just fine.

There are so many hot coeds in Tallahassee. Nobody remembers Two N Jenn.
November 4th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
Yes....
November 4th, 2019 at 12:59 PM ^
This is exactly why I find it amusing, and the fact that his team has like 3 or 4 games left, and he is 5 - 4.

this Lane Kiffin?

That college record is better than Florida state's been doing lately

I remember when he coached Tennessee for a day.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
That day was somewhat longer than his stay in LA.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:54 PM ^
All this makes me happy, and makes me want to remind all of you to be happy, that we're not Florida State or Tennessee. Or Texas.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:13 PM ^
I'll give you Tennessee.
FSU has won a national title recently and Jimbo had some pretty darn good seasons.
Texas is basically Michigan-south
November 4th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
Uncle Leo, hello!
I agree that Texas is more or less the Michigan of the South. But although their BPONE started a bit later than ours (in 2010, the year after they won it all), in the years since then they have lost:
7,5,4,5,7,7,7,6,4
Don't forget that in there are back-to-back losses to Maryland. Maryland! Currently they are 5-3, having just lost to TCU. TCU!
All Michigan fans, we can agree, aspire to more than what we have so far gotten in the Harbaugh era. But we don't want to be Texas right now.
November 4th, 2019 at 3:00 PM ^
They won it all in 2005.
November 4th, 2019 at 4:28 PM ^
Yep, I think they made it to the title game and got ham blasted by Bama before the fall to mediocrity. That was aided by Colt McCoy getting hurt early in the game and Garrett Gilbert doing a Russel Bellomy impression.
November 4th, 2019 at 7:49 PM ^
Trivia note: Lane Kiffin in his lone season in Tennessee came close to upsetting that Alabama team. Bama blocked a field goal on the game's last play and won 12-10.
November 4th, 2019 at 9:32 PM ^
Yep. That game was in Tuscaloosa also.
Take that away, and we might have a Texas vs Cincinnati National Championship Game (Alabama would have still had a very compelling case for the #2 spot over UC, but I do think the Bearcats would have been the choice).
If it's Cincinnati, Brian Kelly likely doesn't go to Notre Dame, because he likely would have stayed at UC to coach that game, instead of leaving December 10 in reality. Supposedly, Harbaugh was Notre Dame's other target at the time.
Alternate histories - you can't go too far with them. But yeah, that blocked FG was important.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:28 PM ^
They could do worse.
I heard Brady Hoke and the Great White Whale are available.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Hey, I'll bet Brady would look great in Garnet and Gold clapping on the sidelines in Tallahassee.
November 4th, 2019 at 3:55 PM ^
Can we some how get Brady to take over at OSU? No? One can only hope...
November 4th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
How is Lane Kiffin still a thing?
November 4th, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
How long was Jon Gruden a thing before it actually became a thing?
November 4th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Ah, the old play hard to get for 20 years and wait for the old $100 million contract game.

Lane Kiffen will always be a thing in Lane Kiffen's mind

and water is wet
November 4th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
I've seen two B1G names that seem more plausible but still a reach in my estimation.
Frankling and Fleck.
Franklin...sure, he turned around Ped state but he is a PA boy so I don't see him thriving at a school that recruits nationally more than Ped State does
Fleck...This is a classic "look at the shiny new toy" case. Fleck has zero recruiting creds and I think It would send them further down the drain...so yeah great hire, he should go there. haha
November 4th, 2019 at 12:59 PM ^
Their SOS not withstanding, Fleck's team has been doing everything asked of them so far. I won't be surprised if they shrink under stronger competition, but at the same time I think to just assume that Fleck has fallen ass backwards into success so far is a little unfair.
November 4th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
"Look at the shiny new toy" case? Fleck took a WMU bad team, with nothing in the cupboard from 1-11 in 2013 to 8-5 the next year, 8-5 again, and then 13-1 his final year there. He beat Northwestern and Illinois (badly) so it wasn't just MAC schools they were playing. Their only loss was by 8 to #9 Wisconsin in a bowl game. Finished #15, the only time in their history they have finished a season ranked.
I was at the Western-#4 USC game in 2017 and they gave them all they could handle. That was his team. USC fans couldn't believe their eyes.
So, no, he's not a shiny new toy. He's a damn good coach.
November 5th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
Northwestern and Illinois aren't MAC schools? Man, I learn something new every day.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:47 PM ^
If Lane weren't such a drama queen, this would probably be a good move for FSU...he is a pretty good coach, to be honest but the drama gets in the way
November 4th, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
Feel like FSU and USC are going to get in to a bidding war for the services of one Urban Meyer.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:00 PM ^
No way Urbz goes back to the state of Florida.
A friend suggested Notre Dame would drop Brian Kelly like a cheap prom dress for Urban Meyer, and supposedly that was once his dream job. But I don't think the old Catholic guard would take a chance on him. Besides guys have to play school there.
November 4th, 2019 at 4:01 PM ^
I think Urban Meyer already floated himself for the ND job sometime before taking the Florida job. IIRC, he asked for the "Lou Holz exemption" - meaning, one or a few exemptions to ND's academic clearinghouse. ND said something to the effect of "nah, we aren't desperate yet."
November 4th, 2019 at 9:55 PM ^
There are rumors that that conversation happened earlier this year. I thought I read that Urban Meyer had an escape clause from Utah for ND and Michigan and yet he landed at Florida. I was hoping he would eventually come to Michigan when he went to Florida (before things went into the ditch.)
November 4th, 2019 at 5:24 PM ^
I heard Urban’s name thrown around for FSU as well. He’s probably holding out for ND. (BTW Buckeye fans are the only ones in the country who thinks Urban is finished coaching. And they believe it vehemently. They are gonna be pi$$ed!)
November 4th, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
Lol, he's not holding out for notre dame.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
Josh Heupel makes some sense...more so than Kiffin IMO.
November 4th, 2019 at 10:08 PM ^
He's got something like a $10M buyout. Combine that with the $20M FSU owes the outgoing coaches and I don't think they'll be able to afford much. At the end if the day, the new coach is still going to have to deal with issues in the oline. The last 3 years of recruiting for Jimbo were rough.
