Uncle Leo, hello!

I agree that Texas is more or less the Michigan of the South. But although their BPONE started a bit later than ours (in 2010, the year after they won it all), in the years since then they have lost:

7,5,4,5,7,7,7,6,4

Don't forget that in there are back-to-back losses to Maryland. Maryland! Currently they are 5-3, having just lost to TCU. TCU!

All Michigan fans, we can agree, aspire to more than what we have so far gotten in the Harbaugh era. But we don't want to be Texas right now.

Yep.  That game was in Tuscaloosa also.

Take that away, and we might have a Texas vs Cincinnati National Championship Game (Alabama would have still had a very compelling case for the #2 spot over UC, but I do think the Bearcats would have been the choice).

If it's Cincinnati, Brian Kelly likely doesn't go to Notre Dame, because he likely would have stayed at UC to coach that game, instead of leaving December 10 in reality.  Supposedly, Harbaugh was Notre Dame's other target at the time.

Alternate histories - you can't go too far with them.  But yeah, that blocked FG was important.

I've seen two B1G names that seem more plausible but still a reach in my estimation.

Frankling and Fleck.

Franklin...sure, he turned around Ped state but he is a PA boy so I don't see him thriving at a school that recruits nationally more than Ped State does

Fleck...This is a classic "look at the shiny new toy" case. Fleck has zero recruiting creds and I think It would send them further down the drain...so yeah great hire, he should go there. haha

"Look at the shiny new toy" case? Fleck took a WMU bad team, with nothing in the cupboard from 1-11 in 2013 to 8-5 the next year, 8-5 again, and then 13-1 his final year there. He beat Northwestern and Illinois (badly) so it wasn't just MAC schools they were playing. Their only loss was by 8 to #9 Wisconsin in a bowl game. Finished #15, the only time in their history they have finished a season ranked.

I was at the Western-#4 USC game in 2017 and they gave them all they could handle. That was his team. USC fans couldn't believe their eyes.

So, no, he's not a shiny new toy. He's a damn good coach.

He's got something like a $10M buyout. Combine that with the $20M FSU owes the outgoing coaches and I don't think they'll be able to afford much. At the end if the day, the new coach is still going to have to deal with issues in the oline. The last 3 years of recruiting for Jimbo were rough.
