Not unless we beat Dook in the title game...it would be close, though.

12/04/2018 - 6:58pm First time I heard it, it…

First time I heard it, it was used to describe Barry Switzer when he coached Dallas,

12/03/2018 - 10:44pm I'd be all in favor of…

I'd be all in favor of getting rid of the lesser tier bowls...I don't think that 6-6 or even 7-5 teams really belong in bowl games

12/03/2018 - 6:32pm Once upon a time, though,…

Once upon a time, though, the SEC was pretty much the same way...you had Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia in the East and the West was really a joke...now the East, with the exception of Georgia, is mostly a joke...Divisions change although...the first B10 divisions were better balancced than now.

12/03/2018 - 6:28pm OK...

actually, Oklahoma…

OK...

actually, Oklahoma would be in the Fiesta or...if you really want to go old, old skool, Orange Bowl and they would probably be matched up against the best team in Florida...so..

Orange Bowl- Oklahoma v. UCF...

Since the SWC no longer exists, let's say you go with the two runners up from the Big 12 and the SEC so...Texas v. Georgia in the Cotton...or if you want to go with a Big 12 runner up v. an at-large...Texas v. Michigan or Georgia

Fiesta only became a B12 bowl in the BCS era

12/03/2018 - 4:54pm Speaking of Oklahoma...we…

Speaking of Oklahoma...we have also been having the debate about OOC schedules...if anyone thinks that weak OOC are the way to go, I might suggest that they talk to the teams in Norman and Columbus...and maybe even South Bend...

12/03/2018 - 4:47pm well...I think this is due…

well...I think this is due in part to the matchup and due in part to the fact that the CFP has rendered much of the overall bowl season meaningless or, to be more precise, obsolete.

If the Bowl system is to survive in this era, it needs to be fixed...I think that a Georgia v. Michigan Sugar Bowl would be very compelling, for example...or, if we want to go old school, the Sugar Bowl could have, say, made an agreement to take the UM/OSU loser...a 4loss eam is not worthy of the Sugar Bowl, they are worthy of a Peach Bowl, though...in what could still be a compelling matchup

12/02/2018 - 10:59pm I mean...

...why d they…

I mean...

...why do they have to tie the Big 12 into the Sugar Bowl along with the SEC...if they want to Bowl system to survive and be relevant, then maybe when major bowls aren't part of the CFP, they need to reopen them for at-large bids...a 4 loss Texas has no business in the Sugar Bowl....Michigan could very well get clowned by Georgia but a Michigan-Georgia Sugar Bowl would be awfully interesting and would make money.

12/02/2018 - 3:24pm well, at least it's not…

well, at least it's not three times in one year, like what happened with UCLA back in the day...although that time, we got to go to Pasadena for the rubber match

12/02/2018 - 3:14pm yuck...

...Frankly, I hope…

yuck...

...Frankly, I hope this doesn't deflate the team too much and...let's see some new stuff from the offense,,,I am tired of Florida like everyone else

12/01/2018 - 5:24pm with Texas having 4 losses,…

with Texas having 4 losses, I could see them taking West Virginia, though

12/01/2018 - 5:22pm well, this is interesting

well, this is interesting

Alabama v. Texas in the Sugar Bowl, I think

12/01/2018 - 5:18pm Lloyd Carr, once upon a time

Lloyd Carr, once upon a time

11/29/2018 - 11:49pm and I agree that some efor…

and I agree that some efor of compensation should be available for players...but still...there will always be bagmen

11/29/2018 - 10:11pm I wish we could still give a…

I wish we could still give a thumbs up to various message board posts instead of just the comments...

Whereever you have competitive sports and money to be made, there's going to be ''bagmen''...I wholeheartedly agree with the general outline here.

11/29/2018 - 2:16pm however you want to put it…

however you want to put it...Lsu should have played Okie State...

11/29/2018 - 10:41am I still want Michigan to be…

I still want Michigan to be able to hook up with Alabama under that sceenario.

Then again, in the LSU-Oklahoma situation in 03, that Rose Bowl...where USC kicked our ass...was still a relevant game

11/29/2018 - 10:30am I'm divided on this...I…

I'm divided on this...I think that they should find a way to hook-up number one and number two...I might say that I like the BCS Chaos better than than the playoff.

EDIT- I preferred the BCS when SOS was a more significant part of the formula, which was prior to the LSU/Oklahoma/USC debacle...and Oklahoma should have been flat-out eliminated under that scenario, so I would say that only conference champions are eligilble for the title game...LSU should have never been allowed to play Alabama again in 2011.

11/29/2018 - 10:18am eight team playoff is fine…

eight team playoff is fine provided the first round is at the home of the higher seeded team

11/29/2018 - 10:12am Say what you will about…

Say what you will about those old-smoke filled rooms of old and the deals they cut, they put together some compelling matchups where all of the major bowls were relevant...

11/29/2018 - 10:02am I agree with you about…

I agree with you about joining the conference but ...damn, USC-Notre Dame at the end of the season at the Coliseum is such great drama (USC played like shit this year but for 2 1/2 quarters...it looked like they were going to pull it off...again!)...those other ones are those hateful in-state ACC-SEC rivalries which are fun...but Alabama should not be playing The Citadel late...

11/29/2018 - 9:50am You have almost ruined some…

You have almost ruined some great rivalries with your plan....USC-Notre Dame, Florida-Florida State, Clemson-South Carolina, Georgia-Georgia Tech...maybe if you grandathered those traditional OOC rivalries into that part

11/29/2018 - 9:08am Well...Kansas State and UCLA…

Well...Kansas State and UCLA losing in the last week of '98 came close

11/28/2018 - 11:37pm but you know that it won't.

but you know that it won't.

11/28/2018 - 11:05pm I should be ashamed of…

I should be ashamed of myself for even thinking this but I will confess that I am now wondering whether this high flying Tar Heel offense will get to 62 points, tonight...

11/28/2018 - 10:28pm When Indiana used the…

When Indiana used the crossing routes sucessfully, it was talked about here...there were warning flares...

11/28/2018 - 10:27pm I am not sure if even…

I am not sure if even Nebraska fans were all that happy with Osborne until he beat Oklahoma.

11/28/2018 - 10:25pm Well...Harbaugh is doing a…

Well...Harbaugh is doing a lot better at Michigan than Fairbanks did at Colorado...and did better at SanFran than Fairbanks did at New England...we don't know who Michigan's ''Barry Switzer'' is yet...or if he exist, these things aren't exact...certainly hope he ain't a cheat, though...David Shaw would certainly be Stanford's ''Barry Switzer'', though

11/28/2018 - 9:52pm Ths Michigan team is very …

Ths Michigan team is very ,very talented...the gap between OSU and Michigan is not that wide...and even if it was, that has never stopped Michigan from hanging with OSU...

11/28/2018 - 9:49pm Both Nebraska and Colorado…

Both Nebraska and Colorado...and Washington began to get top recruits from California and UCLA got a few too...hence why, for the most part in the 90's, USC suffered

11/28/2018 - 9:42pm In order to make the…

In order to make the comparison that I am making here, you had to have the results of this latest iteration of the game, esp. with Michigan being favored.

and...quite a bit of this analysis was here, for those that wanted to read it.

11/28/2018 - 9:31pm well, Urban ain't got that…

well, Urban ain't got that bad...yet..but remember, Oklahoma had already been placed on probation in...'74?...granted that was for violations that happened under Fairbanks..but Switzer was a coach on those teams, too.

https://www.si.com/vault/1974/11/04/615821/the-best-team-youll-never-see

11/28/2018 - 9:25pm Osborne couldn't beat…

Osborne couldn't beat Oklahoma was the part of the comparison that I was reaching for...and Osborne couldn't beat Oklahoma until he did innovate, more or less...I'm not tlaking about the Osborne of the 90's

11/28/2018 - 9:21pm Switzer didn't have to…

Switzer didn't have to rebuild Oklahoma...but Fairbanks did...now if you were to forget about Fairbanks stint at Colorado, a Fairbanks-Harbaugh comparison would be...interesting, given all the drama that happened to Fairbanks at New England.

EDIT- although to make that comparison, you would have to put to the side all the cheating that Fairbanks did it Oklahoma...a tradition that Switzer took to another level, eventually.

11/28/2018 - 9:00pm yeah...that's why I thought…

yeah...that's why I thought of the Osborne comparison...there was not a big talent differential between Nebraska and Oklahoma in the 70's at any point...and I don't think there's one betwen Michigan and OSU now...although in 2015 there was.

11/28/2018 - 8:49pm But ND doesn't play in a…

But ND doesn't play in a conference, for one,...and three out of Harbaugh's four years here, it has come down to Michigan-Ohio State...in 2015, remember, both Michigan and OSU needed a win and an MSU loss

11/28/2018 - 8:44pm Yes...Fryar damn sure looked…

Yes...Fryar damn sure looked like he dropped that ball but Nebraska scored anyway on 4th down...still the greatest college football game that I have seen.

11/28/2018 - 8:42pm This is what I mean by…

This is what I mean by preparing for Ohio State...

You have to already know that there's a good chance that Watson is going to get abused because of the speed, so you coach up ''the fastest man on the team'' especially for that game.

11/28/2018 - 8:35pm as I stated...the analogy…

as I stated...the analogy isn't perfect...hell, Bo was in better shape in '69, for that matter.

11/28/2018 - 8:20pm yep...that monster hit on…

yep...that monster hit on Billy Sims when Oklahoma was driving...

The only reason they had to have a rematch with Oklahoma was because they went right out after beating Oklahoma and lost to Mizzou

11/28/2018 - 8:18pm You might be thinking of…

You might be thinking of those Nebraska teams in the 90's.

Osborne had some damn good teams even in the 70's and his first ''super star team'' was his '83 team...with the exception of Irving Fryar and maybe 'roids, Osborne seemed pretty clean then.

11/28/2018 - 8:04pm Yep...although he didn't run…

Yep...although Osborne didn't run the wishbone...I always wished that Bo had done more with the wishbone than use it in short yardage situations...but when Bo did employ the wishbone, Michigan always got that first down

11/28/2018 - 7:59pm I take my Michigan fandom…

I take my Michigan fandom everywhere I go but...there are certain things that I don't bring to THIS house at mgoblog.

11/28/2018 - 7:50pm Switzer was from the jump…

Switzer was from the jump...Osborne got that way...

11/28/2018 - 7:48pm Vlad, I thought that was…

Vlad, I thought that was your specialty...

11/28/2018 - 7:44pm As I point out, Osborne had…

As I point out, Osborne had to adapt twice...first he had to adapt to beat Oklahoma then he had to adapt to beat Miami/FSU

11/28/2018 - 6:50pm going back to my comparison…

going back to my comparison of Harbaugh to Tom Osborne, I don't want Harbaugh going down the road that Osborne went, though

11/28/2018 - 6:48pm I would assume that Michigan…

I would assume that Michigan's coach has not forgotten about the mental preparation necessary to beat Ohio State...that's part of the reason we hired him...the evidence that he had that knowledge was the way he treated USC when he was at Stanford and how that extended when both he and Pete Carroll went to the NFL.

11/28/2018 - 3:58pm allergic to dogs and dawgs…

allergic to dogs and dawgs but want to play with huskies?

...sounds good...
