The part we know is that he's blaming his teammates, but for some reason people here want to give him credit for not doing that. He said plenty, and even goes so far as to suggest attributing it to their backgrounds. That's classless in my book.

I don't much like the kid personally and haven't since he went public with his fandom for a violent criminal who ought to be banned from the US. But even if you chalk that up to youthful enthusiasm, I'm very surprised people are reacting positively to this interview.

10/24/2018 - 4:29am It's super easy to take…

It's super easy to take infants, as long as you have adequate protection from the noise for their ears and otherwise adequate clothing and supplies. Infants are equally unpleasant to care for in every circumstance, and they can't move on their own, so there's no problem having them in the stadium.

Toddlers and preschoolers are another story. My kids are now 3 and 5. The older one attended multiple football and basketball games as an infant, without any real problems. But they are now only good for about 1 quarter of a football game at home. They sit on the couch with me and we yell like idiots for an hour. Then they get bored and do something else. So, I don't think I'd take a 5 year old.

10/23/2018 - 3:43am Presumably the index itself…

Presumably the index itself is a ranking, so we're now the 28th happiest fans. The other numbers are a score that factors into the ranking, so higher numbers are better there (just like having the most wins in the B1G this year will make us #1).

10/14/2018 - 12:01am "It's either jet or jet fake…

"It's either jet or jet fake" is exactly the idea. I don't think it counts as tipping a play if they know it's either a certain play or a constraint that prevents defending that play straight up. I think that's actually exactly the opposite of tipping a play.

10/06/2018 - 6:06pm I agree with smwilliams on…

I agree with smwilliams on the Wilson holding penalty. I thought it might be a hold live, because it's hard to figure out how the hell he got that guy to slow down as much as he did without holding him. On the replay, there was no hold. But I see how the ref could have thought otherwise. I thought otherwise myself when I saw it live.

10/05/2018 - 3:53am If someone is getting $30…

If someone is getting $30 for a student ticket, it's probably from non-students who are going to validate them for a fee (I think $35) so non-students can use them. $65 isn't at all bad for getting in the door once your pockets are full grown, so everybody's happy.

But if you just wait until game time, which you can do if you don't need time to validate the ticket, you can buy student tickets for blowout games for $10. All you have to do is walk from the stadium back towards the Union and offer 10 bucks to the first person you see trying to get rid of a ticket.

I did that for a couple of years when I was a grad student and my oldest son was a baby. He would enter on my midfield ticket with the rest of my family, and I'd join them after I went in through the student entrance with a $10 ticket.

What happens when you take out tomato cans, almost all of which (here's looking at you, Rutgers) are played at home? Is there still a disparity?

Well, I am super happy I fell asleep before the game and woke up only after we were ahead. Another stress free Michigan victory!

09/16/2018 - 3:38am What a bunch of preposterous…

What a bunch of preposterous whiners the commentariat has become. We beat a non-conference opponent by 4 scores. Our QB threw almost as many TDs as incompletions in the best Michigan QB performance in years. A walk-on RB stepped up after two players ahead of him got hurt. Yet another Glasgow played a major role. Our defensive line brutalized the opponent. We took a pick back 70+ yards. If you're still inclined to whine, do the rest of us a favor and get off the site.

09/15/2018 - 7:19pm They gave us a spot for a…

They gave us a spot for a first down we didn't actually get and then threw a flag on their coach for complaining. They also called penalties or incompletions on SMU that took 2 of their scores off the board. This is not a game to complain about the refs.

09/03/2018 - 2:53am This board is embarrassingly…

This board is embarrassingly full of crybabies and idiots. Fortunately the team won't quit as easily. Hopefully the idiots don't chase off Harbaugh before the ship is righted. I'll worry in year 5.

Defense closed ND down. Offense has started making progress. But we are going to run out of time. So frustrating.

So McCaffery didn't get a first down and now I guess all the Shea haters who just emerged will want him to come back.

The refs are really not helping us at all. Every time ND doesn't convert on 3rd down they get some help. We can't get a penalty called even when ND is obviously committing them in crucial spots. Ugly.

McCaffrey looked good. Let's see Shea show why he got the nod.

08/30/2018 - 9:55am Just chill out and don't be…

Just chill out and don't be in a hurry. When it's your watch with the baby, you're not getting anything done anyway.

Here's a useful mantra: "I do the carrying, you do the crying. I do the carrying, you do the crying. I do the carrying, you do the crying." The baby's still screaming either way, but it feels like they're listening to you and you've become a team. It's all very Zen. Also, yes, as said upthread, put the baby down and walk away when you feel yourself getting frustrated. No baby has ever died (probably) from being set down for a couple of minutes while dad takes a break so as not to kill the thing. In due time, the kid will get awesome. You'll see.

You wouldn't be comfortable sending your daughter there because of worries about integrity and safety, not because of worries about academic matters. Right?

08/24/2018 - 9:59am The hot take gets a little…

The hot take gets a little too hot around here:

  • Ohio State University’s hard fought for academic reputation is now ruined.

The university's sordidness in putting $$$ before humans on the football field has nothing to do with academics. Once upon a time, professors ran universities. That time is long past. Empty suits run them. The same empty suit who oversees academics also "oversees" the AD. His reputation for not being an empty suit should now be ruined. But I don't see what that has to do with the academic reputation of the school.

Mostly worked, but we managed to take three short trips.

One to Ålesund, Norway to see a big tower of pallets burn for midsummer:

One to Tallinn, Estonia.

One to Krakow, Poland.

It was cool. Kids (3 and 5) have been to 13 countries now I think.

07/03/2018 - 9:56am I live in Sweden.

I live in Sweden.

  • Basically free healthcare, including for anyone under the age of 18 whether or not they have the legal right to be in Sweden, and including most prescriptions, dental care, vision care, etc. for minors, too.
  • No poverty aside from people more or less pleasantly begging because they make more money by begging in Sweden than they would by working in Romania.
  • No need to own a car because you can bike or walk or take public transit everywhere.
  • Generally very safe.
  • State subsidies for having children plus almost free education for them.
  • Everybody speaks English.

  • People are too tall.
  • Impossible to find Jell-O in grocery stores.
  • Winter is coming.

07/03/2018 - 9:51am Somewhere around 1/2 of the…

Somewhere around 1/2 of the country hates Trump and somewhere around half of the country either supports him or his platform.  This is nothing new for our country, unfortunately.  Before Trump was elected, somewhere around half the country loved Obama, and somewhere around half hated him or his message.  Before Obama was elected, somewhere around 1/2 of the country loved either George W. Bush or his message, and somewhere around 1/2 hated him.

I mean, if you're going to say stuff like this, you should be clear about it. What people object to about Donald Trump is stuff like his being a conman and his overseeing the kidnapping of thousands of children. What people objected to about Obama was, um, his rhetoric of hope and change and his attempts to give people healthcare? What people objected to about Bush was his program of kidnapping and torturing people at black sites. So, like, one of these things is not like the others.

Also, we will be pretty lucky if Trump doesn't cause an actual civil war. The extreme right has long tended towards extremely violent rhetoric towards the left. I am seeing a rise of violent rhetoric towards Trumpism on the left. It's no longer unthinkable for me that there could be another American Civil War. I definitely would not have said that under either Bush II or Obama. So there is something new here, I think.

I am interested in all thoughts about baby boomers elaborating on the ways in which they are the single worst generation ever. It's true, and we have to live with it, so we might as well get to gripe about the morally bankrupt jerks while we wait for them to stop fucking up the country/world by finally becoming ineligible to vote by dying off. But, y'know, that's politics. Shouldn't talk about it here.
