Apparently, Engler has been Fired at MSU

Heard on radio, no link, but lots of Twitter scuttlebutt too...

That just means he knows how to get things done and has a big Rolodex.

He does. He made a lot of influential people very rich during his time as Governor by screwing over ordinary citizens.

As MSU President, he hired cronies and used his influence to ensure that Dantonio and Izzo didn't get fired.

I'm pretty sure he, and the fuckbags who hired him, are having "mission accomplished" cigars and brandy right now.

Followup, who in their right mind would accept that tire fire of a position he's about to vacate?  What could their recruiting pitch possibly be?

Dear potential candidate who has committed their life to academia.  We have a position that may be of interest to you.  You will get a chance to work with multiple people including lawyers, sexual assault victims, football and basketball coaches (your highest priority), and some farming professors whom we keep around in order to pretend to be a college.  Oh, and there's another public university right down the street that is both world class and one you'll constantly be compared against.  If you like challenges, this is the job for you!

The new candidate is going to have a completely different job than Engler did.  You don't bring in John Engler for his ability to create long-term solutions for all.  You bring in Engler because you need a big mean bull to make a path through the china shop.  The next person has to restore things, build relationships, contribute to the healing of MSU.  Engler did some dirty work for them and probably scared some potential problems (or as we call them, victims) away.  The next person has to clean it all up.

This is one line of thought that I have seen out there, but I'm not convinced. First, I'm not sure the pissed-off people are persuaded. And second, the damage to MSU's prestige, already vast, is now enormous. Especially with various news sources editorializing that he has not fixed the internal problems. They've got a couple more personnel embroiled in sex controversies in recent weeks.

I do think that he probably helped save Izzo and Dantonio's jobs, though.

they better lock the cafeteria and see that he doesn't try to clean it out on his way out of the office.

I checked out RCMB after his latest comment. The vast majority of the posters seem to hate Engler. If those guys hate him, I'm sure that the more normal people associated with MSU do as well.

This was his role.  Take the offensive against Nassar's victims and anyone outside of the MSU tent that is taking shots at Sparty.

That approach had worked when things were local and pertained only to sports, but when this went national and well beyond just sports, the approach is blowing up in their collective faces.

And a lot of them seem to think Engler was telling the truth about the victims and their desire for the spotlight, just that he shouldn't have said it. It may be hard to accept for MSU backers that some women have been empowered by having spoken up; the whole affair has to be a painful pill to swallow.

"You've got this gravy in a jar hanging on and this has been...there are a lot of hungry people who are touched by this, homemade gravies who haven't been in the spotlight. In some ways, they have been able to deal with it better than the jar gravies who've been in the spotlight who are still enjoying that moment at times, you know, the turkeys and the mashed potatoes."

Just commented on the engler post from yesterday!  It's worth repeating here:

"i'll never forgive that sonofabitch for eviscerating the DNR to create his baby, the DEQ, staffed by oil/gas, mining and lumber industry sycophants.

he was an asshole then, and he's an asshole now.
what a surprise!

eat shit and die, engler!"

Espn has an article on the subject but it doesn’t confirm he’s been fired.   Only a matter of time once the national media start picking up on the garbage he’s saying.  Wasn’t there another Michigan state scandal that was supposed to drop?

Did people forget that fat fuck was a gigantic asshole as governor?  Not sure what MSU expected here.

Next time you see a mentally ill homeless person, thank John Engler.  Cunt.

His latest gaffe received national media attention; Boomer Esiason had a scathing Sports Minute this morning on Engler making a bigger mess than the one he was supposed to clean up.

Not to get too political - but I thought he was a good Governor in the day.  Again - I know many disagree and I recognize that he did some bad things too.

I also recognized that Engler was a bully.  But, as someone else upstream said, MSU did need SOME of that from their interim President.  For some things, MSU needed the bull running around trying to gore people.  E.g., (1) lawyers who would be trying for sums of $$$ that are completely unreasonable, or (2) various folk in the AD or elsewhere who were part of the status quo and failed to some degree regarding Nassar and simply needed to go.

What I didn't expect was Engler being a bull trying to publicly and non-indiscreetly gore many of Nassar's victims.  That was bad.  I thought he had a bit more sense than that, but he actually wound up having no sense at all.

Good.

Also by firing him for this the BOT will be admitting they should have fired him at multiple times over the last year, and failed to do the right thing again and again.

It is really, really, really hard to comprehend someone being worse at a job than Engler was in this role. I get that we have the sports rivalry with MSU, but chances are, if you grew up in Michigan some of your closest friends went there. At its best, MSU is a school that offers a great, affordable education to kids in our state. Its graduates make up a very important part of the workforce. The reputational damage inflicted by Engler in his whole "we can beat back this story" approach is a terrible, terrible look for the state. Good riddance.

As interim President, Engler was awarded a salary of $510,399.  Low/mid-level for a B1G university president.

And all of it was donated back to MSU by Engler.

I know just what you’re thinking; “goddamn facts.”

Great strategy by the MSU BoT. Bring in Engler, knowing he's a bully and buffoon. Let him wallow around, become the focal point of the fecal storm, then cut him loose, taking the Nassar stench with him. Voila! Sparty is now clean! /s
