from ESPN:

The Ole Miss athletic department told the NCAA earlier this month it didn't support Patterson's original request because they believed the basis of his claim -- that former coach Hugh Freeze convinced him and others to stay at Ole Miss last year by lying about the scope and potential punishment of the NCAA's investigation into the program -- was untrue. Those claims weren't included in the new waiver requested submitted this week.

Sounds like what Sam Webb was talking about earlier today on 247. Basically the NCAA said they’ll 100% approve of the waiver if Shea recants all his testimony of the shady shit OM did. I find that to be pretty shady too but whatever. He’s eligible now.

Basically the NCAA is saying we don't want the public to know about how bad the state of college football is and they don't want Ole Miss to face any further punishment, so they are trying to save face and UM agreed to it because they get what they want?  This is why I could never be in a leadership/management position because if I represented UM/Patterson I would never let them off the hook for that crap.

We get attached to guys. We're fans. We follow them from when they're in high school through whatever professional career they have.

So it's natural to want the best for someone like Peters. So long as we accept that the good of the team is paramount. I mean, I wanted Tate Forcier to do well and I was frustrated on his behalf as it seemed that he would lose his starting job... but, uh, I was really happy with how Denard took the reins.

generally. What the hell is “rooting” anyway? So he’s pushing his snout around the M forest for Peters truffles? You hope Peters starts over Shea after how hard they worked to get Shea eligibility? It’s your prerogative but it makes no sense. I’m “ rooting” for Peters to watch Shea and learn how to get us a Big Ten champ and at least into playoffs.

You should root for who gives us the best chance to win. With this defense and even a slightly above average offense were in the playoffs.

Hold on there Speedy. Spring into summer into fall is my favorite time of year in Michigan, when I wouldn't want to live in any other state. I try to slow it down as much as possible. You gotta let time just come to you, man. (bong hit).

Sad because there is no way we should be sitting in yr 4 of Harbaugh in need of a transfer miracle to get us a serviceable QB.

We watch MSU turn Lewerke into a winner, Whisky same thing, PSU, hell even IU and that’s just the B1G. Don’t even start on the freshman & Sophomores across CFB that we’ve had to watch succeed while we just lean on excuses about youth. If Mccaffrey is/was a 5* then you come able to play. Same with Peters and his 4* rating. How can you deserve those ratings and be 2-3 yrs from ready? And what voodoo is it that makes nobody’s like Lewerke so much more capable with far lower ratings?

A RS freshman thrown into the starting role early in his career due to injuries, made some damn fine plays and yes, some poor ones.  The OL and frosh WR corps were huge disappointments last year, but everyone lays it all on the young QB.  Whatever.  I think Shae will start, but I'm glad we have Peters to back him up.

Freshmen that are ready to play are the exception not the rule in CFB.  We have several good QB's.  But when fate/Ol Miss/whatever drops a VERY good QB in our lap we'd be foolish not to take him. Our season would have been better than last year even without him, just because our very young 2017 is a year more experienced.  This kicks everything up a notch.

Wanna bet on who finishes with better career #s in college? Nobody Lewerke or Peters? It pains me to say it but we have a problem, some parts Hoke, some parts not, that is just unexplainable. Wyoming puts a guy in the 1st round, NDSU a couple yrs ago etc. while we flounder to find a leader that’s more than a 1yr hired gun. Somebody needs a better eye for finding winners. They aren’t always accurately rated by the services.

It’s not a talent problem. It’s an offense problem. I hold to my belief that JH’s offense requires more QB reads and offers less safety valve on break downs relative to many other college offenses. The key to the long term success of our program is JH realizing this and adapting, knowing he will not always have an Andrew Luck manning the helm.

It seems premature to jump to some major conclusion about how we've got a huge problem developing qbs. Speight, Malzone and Morris weren't superstars under Harbaugh, but he inherited them. Okorn was brought in as a flier after looking around the qb room. Who knows, maybe it was a talent issue and JH did a great job getting those guys are far as they got. D McCaffrey was a skinny true freshman last year. Imho, Peters was the only real evidence that can be relied upon. Sure he wasn't a superstar last year, but he was only a RS freshman. Further, it is only one fuzzy data point. Using one off examples like Wyoming and SDSU is ridiculous. More likely they hit the lottery than any thing else. Just because WMU had Corey Davis, it doesn't make them the standard for wr development.
