01/08/2019 - 7:13pm Michigan could also be fine…

Michigan could also be fine. Rising star OLB coach Al Washington would have been tough to retain this offseason; Washington, like Mattison, is a strong recruiter with deep Ohio ties and in fact was previously the Michigan coach rumored to be considering an OSU job. Mattison's departure instead should clear the way for Michigan to promote Washington up the assistant chain while returning him to his most natural coaching position; Washington was Don Brown's defensive line coach at Boston College and at most of his other stops.

Hoo boy, that aged poorly in a hurry.

11/24/2018 - 4:52pm Stubborn? Don Brown is the…

Stubborn? Don Brown is the king of adjustments, what are you smoking?

Their offensive gameplan was better than our defensive one, and their offensive playmakers were better than our defensive playmakers.

11/24/2018 - 4:46pm Offense is lacking…

Offense is lacking explosiveness. Using running backs to grind the opposition down over 4 quarters is well and good, but when you have a pair of 5* receivers in the barn and you have no plan for including them, well...

11/15/2018 - 12:14am I laughed, if it makes you…

I laughed, if it makes you feel better. :(

11/03/2018 - 11:10am They also don’t make you buy…

They also don’t make you buy the demo kit anymore, so there’s that. No more negative cash flow.

10/20/2018 - 9:45pm It'd be nice if he could NOT…

It'd be nice if he could NOT retire before we beat him one goddamn time.

09/23/2018 - 3:40pm I must be the only person…

I must be the only person that wasn't that ruffled by the "we outhit them" comment.  It was his second game with a team that had gone 0-12 the year before, and he was looking for positives.  They ran for almost 300 yards on Michigan's all-world defense, and we barely scraped 100.  So yeah, he emphasized that, even though they lost by 37.

No such silver linings this time around, though.

09/15/2018 - 2:29pm That is certainly a negative…

That is certainly a negative prediction.  Well done.

09/01/2018 - 1:34pm So Maryland isn't just…

So Maryland isn't just beating Texas, they're straight up destroying them

08/31/2018 - 1:35pm Are the maize away pants…

Are the maize away pants back yet, or are we still stuck with the stripey ones?

05/16/2018 - 8:19pm Not an elite program?!

Who says that?  And I'm being serious!  This IS an elite program, and will continue to be an elite program.  This is Michigan, fergodsakes!

*In case anyone wanted an early case of Throwback Thursday.

04/27/2018 - 7:10pm Do not want tomato.

Far too much red.  MAKE IT BLUE!

03/24/2018 - 11:31pm "Michigan by 4"

03/03/2018 - 4:56pm I'll just post this thread from last January every chance I get

The infamous "Fire John Beilein" thread.

What was it that Brian said a few days ago?  The pendulum of loving Beilein and hating him?

Whatever.  I firmly love him.  Go blue!

02/13/2018 - 9:39pm Not great, admittedly

They too have been forced to vacate wins, of course, and therein lies the problem.  Do we want to equate Notre Dame's situation with Baylor's?  Do we want to send the message that if you do everything right, adhere to your school's honor code, and report violations, that you receive the same punishment as an institution that systematically covered up a decade of sexual assault?

If the punishments are going to be the same, schools might as well try to cover it up.  That's a dangerous path.

02/13/2018 - 6:53pm Okay

The message is also that if an athletic department discovers their players were up to something shady after the fact, they shouldn't report it, because penalties will come down that affec the entire program. That's how you encourage coverups and shady programs. That's how you lead to situations like Baylor and Michigan State- you create a culture where people are afraid of dirt coming out and close ranks instead of doing the right thing.

02/13/2018 - 4:42pm To hell with Notre Dame and all that

But this is incredibly heavy handed.  A female student gives "impermissible benefits" to some players independent of the athletic department, they self report it after finding out, and then the entire program gets punished?  What message is the NCAA trying to send here?

02/08/2018 - 11:33pm That "snow day" was hilarious.

So there was a massive blizzard the weekend before break ended. Michigan, of course, didn't cancel classes, because that's not the Michigan Way. The first day of class rolls around, and every classroom is aboht 10% full, because nobody could actually get to campus. Flights were cancelled, driving was impossible, etc. So naturally, Michigan cancelled classes the NEXT day... on a day which was sunny and pretty clear.

Cold as hell, yes, but I always found it funny that Michigan broke its no-snow-day streak not with the blizzard that made travel impossible, but the comparatively nice day right after.

02/07/2018 - 10:26am I haven't followed recruiting at all this year.

I take it that it hasn't been great?

01/29/2018 - 12:24pm Some thoughts

I love Grizzly Peak and Jolly Pumpkin if you're looking for traditional American bar fare.  If you want something a bit different, try Frita Batidos.  They're Cuban-inspired and have awesome burgers and fries.

01/17/2018 - 9:52pm Weird as hell to see the deep shots in the Florida game

I forgot what a competent passing attack looked like.

01/01/2018 - 10:07pm Funny, isn't it

A comment I kept hearing over and over during the RichRod years was "fuck this fancy shit, I want an offense where everyone in the building knows we're gonna run it, and they can't stop it." Reality is that everyone knowing what you're gonna do isn't so nice.

12/13/2017 - 12:10pm Eh?

It doesn’t say anything about being an offensive MVP; but that was the paradigm. Paradigms had changed before in the history of this award—it used to be so Domer biased that QB Paul Hornung won it in 1956 while going 2-8 and throwing 13 INTs to 3 TDs (Jim Brown finished third).

Woodson was.

Woodson was what?

12/11/2017 - 3:09pm Whoever it is

I'll bet ya they manage to break 5 TDs in a year.

12/10/2017 - 10:30pm They're right

Pretty hard to stop a RB when he's playing in a different state.

11/12/2017 - 3:30pm It is truly amazing how alike Michigan and Tennessee are.

Just a few years apart.  They've even swapped the same coaches.

11/06/2017 - 11:40pm We're celebrating that Taylor hit? Really?

Calling it the "GREATEST" hit of all time and snarkily referencing how referees today would "somehow" manage to find a targeting call in it, when Taylor pretty obviously led with his head and speared Stephenson right in his helmet, is fairly sickening.

Two careers ended in that moment.    Don't glorify that.

11/06/2017 - 12:37pm Settlers of Catan is awesome, what are you talking about?

Fite me irl, Brian

10/30/2017 - 8:43pm That means Belichick's got something huge up his sleeve.

You don't make a move like that otherwise.

10/16/2017 - 1:02pm Short memory, then.

The number of people who wanted Denard to switch to RB and Devin to start at QB when we started struggling was staggering.

10/11/2017 - 6:47pm I chuckled

10/11/2017 - 1:57pm Maybe, but

I'm more impressed with Dan Orlovsky being in the league since 2005.

10/05/2017 - 12:04pm Looks pretty cool, actually.

I like the grass rooftops.

So if the buildings attached to the stadium have classrooms, student centers, the department of music, etc... how does that work on gameday?  Do they charge to get in the buildings?  If not, are there windows overlooking the field from those buildings, and will that affect student attendance if students can just watch for free from their cozy quarters?

It's pretty ambitious, though, and it's a nice idea they've implemented.

09/17/2017 - 10:09am Everyone forgets about Washington

09/08/2017 - 11:54am Well...

To be fair, I do agree with him on #1. It's been a tradition for a while to give the #1 jersey to a great receiver. And now suddenly there are two of them? Both guys who haven't proven anything? Harbaugh's obviously operating under the belief that it's just another number. For Braylon, who wore it when it meant something great, though, it's understandable that he wouldn't feel the same. It's also understandable that he wouldn't be alone in that regard.

09/02/2017 - 7:55pm Didn't like them.

Don't like the all-whites either. I love Harbaugh, but the man doesn't have great fashion sense.

08/09/2017 - 4:02pm Maize, then. I just want the maize pants back.

08/09/2017 - 2:32pm I just want the gold pants back.

07/11/2017 - 9:08pm I'll cast my vote for it.

I always loved the romantic swing of it.  The normal version is bombastic and jubilant and stuff, but after a victory, the hard work's done.  Sit back and dance.

06/20/2017 - 12:56am Easy answer

After a season which ended with getting eviscerated by the New England Patriots in the playoffs, the Indianapolis Colts hung this banner in their stadium:

06/16/2017 - 1:43pm Hit his receiver in both his hands.

Should've had it.  The receivers haven't been kind to Rodgers these past few weeks.

06/16/2017 - 1:13pm Wish my freshman year was like that.

I'll never shake the feeling that I missed out on the best times of my life.

06/06/2017 - 3:05pm Dantonio handled this pretty well.

Suspended the players when the allegations came out, kicked them off the team when they got formally charged.  That's about as good as you can hope for from an administrative standpoint.

06/02/2017 - 3:13pm "Jump" by Van Halen is a truly terrible song

04/22/2017 - 11:54am I've got one

The girlfriend didn't want to watch Game of Thrones with me (she made it as far as the dire wolf getting killed in the second episode), so she compromised and said that for every two episodes of Grey's Anatomy I watched, she would watch one episode of Game of Thrones. Apparently she didn't expect me to actually agree, but the joke's on her. We made this pact two weeks ago and I'm halfway through season three (46 episodes in) and barreling towards the finish line.

04/10/2017 - 9:11pm You know what they say!

Gotta eat to live, gotta steal to eat, otherwise we'd get along!

03/19/2017 - 2:43pm Weird

I put WOOOP in the German translator and it translated to FUCK YEAH.  Craziest thing, right?

03/13/2017 - 8:09pm I hate this whole saga.

I mean, think about Joe Pa's idyllic view of what college athletics could be.  Think about the Grand Experiment.  That's a pretty beautiful idea.  Why did the people in charge have to mess it up by being spineless shits?

03/12/2017 - 11:56pm Well let's think.

We went from the Fire Beilein Snowflake Thread five weeks ago, which a bunch of spoiled, reactionary shits upvoted to near-universal acclaim, to the John Beilein Appreciation Thread put forth not four weeks later. Yeah, I'd say that's a swing.
