This is what we saw after last year's game, and expected the product of that self reflection this year. Guess it's time for double-secret self reflection.
|12/30/2018 - 1:55am||Totally disagree with…||
Totally disagree with everything you say. Getting from good to great isn't about personnel aside from QB because every year you will have to reload somewhere important. It's about scheme and coaching and the sad realization from this year is that (a) Harbaugh's schemes just do not generate enough explosiveness, rock paper scissors wins, and creativity relative to other top college offenses (OSU, OK, Clemson) and (b) Brown's gimmick is up. Much in the way the spread and read options took the world by storm until they were solved, now too Brown's D took opponents by storm but is now solved. Florida sprinkled in a little of everything, tunnel screens, crossing routes, pick plays, etc., etc. Bottom line is with the incredible players we had this year on both sides of the ball, to end the season the usual 0-2 the way we did, means it's 100% back to the drawing board for Harbaugh.
|12/22/2018 - 2:09pm||Really dude? You really…||
Really dude? You really think Harbaugh would have pulled all those PERMISSIBLE recruiting antics and ploys if Michigan could just rely on bagmen like the SEC does? Can you name me one high profile recruit that was crystal balled to another school for a long time that suddenly switched to Michigan out of the blue? You really think Michigan, with our deep pocketed and rabid alumni base would consistently lose 4 and 5 stars to other programs the way we do if we were up to something funky? Can you provide the slightest shred of evidence at all?
Sorry dude, but until the slightest evidence arrives, we'll throw the first stone at shady bullshit like this.
On a side note, recruits are not as important to me as coaches that can solve schemes. Brown needs to figure Day out, and Harbaugh needs to continue playing 11 v 11 on offense. That's the start, middle and end of the story as it relates to the success of this program going forward because we will always get decent recruits. CLEANLY.
|12/22/2018 - 1:59pm||You must be either really…||

Yep at this point there is little doubt that Tennessee has sold it's soul to "just win baby" and will end up the way of Ole Miss in a few years. Next year we can start looking at their incoming classes to see what talent we can pluck our way after sanctions and bowl bans hit them.
|12/19/2018 - 11:36am||Looking like a great class…||
Looking like a great class but what I really want to know is 1. Will Don Brown solve Ryan Day, and 2. Will Harbaugh continue to leverage the RPO, 11 v 11 well?
If the answer to those two questions is "yes" then that is worth about the equivalent of 6 or 7 5 star recruits Going Blue each year.

Bet it was about academics but I have zero to back that.
Posting this deep down here to sulk openly and hopefully not before too many eyes but yeah, after that OSU game I threw the towel in spiritually for this program after 40 years of carrying the torch. We'll have a season here or there where we might beat OSU but I think this hold out for a return to the dominance of the 70's - 90's is over. Three reasons:
1. We're Ivy Lite. A program hamstrung by standards and integrity that prevents us from competing with the dumb, dirty big boys, and like Ivies, we're smug about it. Unlike the rabble, we would never compromise on these principles much as Ivy League schools.
2. We share recruits with a Little Brother University in a state that is inferior in talent relative to our main rival who has their talent rich state all to themselves.
3. Bad luck. The Gods do hate us for some reason, such as always scheduling the OSU game on the road every year we're actually good (2006, 2016, 2018).
Hey, at least we're suddenly a basketball school.

|12/11/2018 - 10:57am||I could get behind his…||
I could get behind his message penalizing teams for playing all of their games at home, but I can also get behind my personal message that road games are not always a fair indicator of the best team when you're usually playing 5 against 8 with referees making every marginal call, and most fantasy calls, in favor of the home team. Home cooked refereeing ruins the sport for me, especially when the home team is down big, at which point the referees usually take 50/50 bias and slant it 80/20 until the score gets a little more reputable.
|12/10/2018 - 8:48pm||Of course he will be a…||
Of course he will be a Buckeye. That loss to OSU was the worst program loss since 2006 in the impact it is going to have on program trajectory. JH had his players, and had his coaches and got wiped out. Still love him and want him to be our coach, and have a glimmer of hope he will eventually figure it out, but that loss has stunted us another 3 years.

Bottom line is the Harbaugh clan feeds off of competition. It's their life blood right along air, milk and steak. Ohio State has presented Jim with a level of competition that must be translating into some serious life giving energy, and I'm confident he will rise to the occasion. Not to mention that leaving now or any time soon would leave a signficant scar on Jim's legacy. He has work to do, and he's going to get after it. Love our coach.

|11/27/2018 - 9:16am||Yes I am surprised when our …||
Yes I am surprised when our #1 defense with 1st/2nd round picks at all three levels, with our all world D coordinator gives up more points in our most important game than any other Michigan defense, EVER, GERG defenses included.
|11/26/2018 - 2:02pm||Here, let me help you out. …||
Here, let me help you out. Hell is the Gods blessing us with the #1 defense in the country, peppered with first/second round picks at all three levels, coupled with a D coordinator considered by many as the finest in the game, setting us up with an expectation of 100% defensive performance, then turning around and watching this all world D give up more points than any other Michigan defense, even some really, really horrible Rich Rod defenses, ever gave up to our arch rival.
Hell is expecting that, after three losses in a row, our all-world coach would leave nothing to chance in preparation for this, the most important game of the year, and that he would find a way to help the team perform to expectations, much as it had the past two years in the rivalry. Specifically, acknowledging that Haskins is the best passing QB Ohio State has ever had, and that the staff would do absolutely everything in it's power to scheme disrupting him. WHIFF.
If 50% is the average Michigan defensive performance, we expected a 100% this game and got a 1%. The closest I can think to this game in terms of the defense being humiliated was Oregon 2007 when the only thing Ron English thought when he heard the word "spread" was to spread his ass cheeks, but in that game the expectation was nowhere near as high as it was for the D in this game.
Frustration = Expectation/Reality
Hell = 100/1
We were all already in the BPONE after years of BPONE reinforcement, but the way this year was shaping up, finally, finally we were Charlie Brown believing Lucy would leave that ball there for us to kick. We finally dared to believe and take a peek from under our Sysyphean BPONE rock. SPLAT. Fuck Lucy.

|11/26/2018 - 1:42pm||You just may be my long lost…||
You just may be my long lost twin spirit. I also left a house party after the punt block, and spent the rest of the weekend ruminating about how I got myself to where the success of this team was so closely bound to my self-esteem. I am still depressed and consider this the lowest moment in my Michigan fandom ever, even lower than the Horror, with 2006 OSU a close second. At least with the Horror this thing called BPONE didn't yet exist and I still had a full mental arsenal of hope and faith for the excellence and future of the program based upon decades of prior success.
I pondered how after 20 years of bachelorhood, I had a big void of interests to fill upon getting married and how I'd made the fateful decision to reinvest in my Michigan fandom 10 years ago, leading to reading MGoBlog 2-3 time a day, and venturing over to recruiting sites, and getting myself to where I knew the story behind every player, and the story behind every game coach and team. I realized all of this made it all worse.
Back in the 80s I wouldn't know 80% of the players' names due to no internet or recruiting sites. Being a Michigan fan was just light entertainment and fun. I was far more detached.
I walked out of the house party knowing something was wrong with me that I was unable to continue enjoying the company of friends and fraternity brothers I saw very rarely, because that was all outweighed by what amounted to torture in continuing to be in the presence of that game on that screen, with what was happening to players and coaches I had grown to care for from afar.
MGoBlog is my favorite site on the internet, and Michigan football is my favorite passion outside family/work, but the only conclusion I can draw is that my life needs to get out and get some air.
|11/26/2018 - 10:21am||Disagree. This one was…||
Disagree. This one was bigger than 2016 in terms of ramifications. 2016 we were dogs and JH did not have all of his pieces, and certainly no mobile 5 start QB to work with. So when we lost, we could still point to the future.
This year JH was fully loaded with all of his weapons and as loaded a defense as you can ever hope for in college at all three levels, and this was the end result.
It's over. It's resoundingly clear Meyer's approach to X's and O's is superior to Harbaugh's. Harbaugh is still the better man and he may walk into seasons where the pieces work out, but what Saturday made clear is JH is an excellent college football coach, but will not be a Saban whose approach to a program moves a college football program to the top of the mountain. JH is going to need help and luck to do so.
I don't give up on him because he has the competitive fire and humility and he may find a way, but whatever that way is, it is not clear, and certainly not something I would put faith into.
My only silver lining is that every time we have had an elite team - 2006, 2016, 2018 - the Game has motherfucking been AT Columbus. For once I'd like us to be loaded and have the Game be at home. Just seems like our team is mediocre whenever the game is at home.

'88 game in Columbus we were there with our fraternity. Night before we dared sing the Victors at a local bar. After we left, a bouncer gathered about 10 other meatheads who followed us around a street, and quickly circled the one brother daring enough wear his Michigan hat to that bouncer's bar. He cold cocked my friend in the face, dropping him to the floor, and another came up and kicked my friend square in the face. Then they all smirked and looked at the rest of us, comprised mostly of freshmen and sophomores half their body weight, and walked away.
Efforts to get the police involved proved fruitless. That was the first and last time I ever visited Columbus.
|11/20/2018 - 10:14am||I feel better about this…||
I feel better about this year than 2016 but I hate feeling that this game is 100X more important for our program than it is for OSU's. I also hate that almost every time over the last 20 years that we have had a killer team, the game has been AT OSU. 2006, 2016 come to mind, with very close losses. And now this year....
I feel like we have a 60% chance to win, driven mostly by JH's burning focus on this all year, and hopefully having stacked the cupboard with surprises much as Franklin and Moorehead did against us last year.
|11/20/2018 - 9:32am||Only downer on that game…||
Only downer on that game were the yellow Rams jerseys. Growing up in Michigan I fell in love with the Rams because they were the team with the closest color scheme to Michigan in the pros. Both teams have beautiful helmets and uniforms but I hated our yellows against Florida and hated these yellows too. Other than that, Go Rams and Lions!
|11/19/2018 - 4:10pm||This game is a coin flip…||
This game is a coin flip that will likely go with whomever wins turn overs.
- Performed better this year relative to OSU
- While the D is a mess, OSU's offense can be as explosive as any in the country.
I have no take on who will win this game and my faith 100% rests on just how much JH and DB have stored for this game in order to overcome all the cons.
|11/19/2018 - 12:01pm||After the game my first…||
After the game my first thought was how little interest I would ever have again in watching that game again. It was just excruciating and took 4 hours. Flags, injuries, cramps, QB escapes, converted IU 3rd downs, just painful, but nowhere near as painful as watching Maryland miss a wide open pass to a guy 7 yards away to beat OSU...About as tough a weekend as I can imagine where we actually won.
|11/18/2018 - 5:31pm||My hopes rest on JH and DB…||
My hopes rest on JH and DB having schemed all year for this game and executing as well as last year, except with a better QB against a worse OSU team.
I fully expect the refs to shaft us again with lots of interference calls, and holds on their O lines that go uncalled.
