Personally, the loss to South Carolina was dissapointing and a failure, but not that emotionally taxing being a bowl game. I have faith we can improve for next year and get back on track. For now though, it's on to our quietly improving basketball team. Go Blue!

Never get too high, never get too low. Give yourself 24-48 hours to celebrate a win, or be pissed off about a loss, then move on.

Some of us take longer to grieve than others. The whole issue is expectations. It was not realistic to think that a team this young was going to be a national championship contender.
They won't be a contender until they can run and pass block. Once they can do that they will be fun to watch again.

Honestly, I was over it after Rich Rod. The fact we took a guy like Hoke, ever, was a joke. (My first poem of 2018) Great Man, Great Michigan man, but was not and never will be a big time head coach. That was a sad day. Im just in waiting mode now, waiting for Michigan to come back....Go Blue always, Go Coach Go Harbaugh, Ill root always but Im not emotionally invested right now.

Weaknesses seem like many
-OL, QB, RB's can't block, young WR's were a HUGE disappointment, D giving up big plays against top teams, O play calling was disjointed, D needs some zone mixed in or some other calls besides 99 percent pressure which is to predictable against top teams.
I still loyal, but I'm worried about next year after this bowl game disaster. We looked like a poor high school team in the second half.
January 3rd, 2018 at 9:07 AM ^
I agree the older WRs were a huge disappointment, but youth be youth.
Grant Perry - Invisible, maybe injury related?
Kekoa Crawford - Should be 5th string heading into next year
McDoom - Didn't expect much more from him but he provided zero improvement
Black - Exceeded expectations early and often, then injured.
DPJ - on track, would have shined brighter with decent QB play
Collins - needed RS, but promising
Martin - RS, tbd
Schoenle - Walk-on status shined brighter than spring/practice hype.
Everyone under McDoom was a freshman. McDoom/Crawford are true sophomores and can still take a giant step forward in their progression, especially if a position coach is hired.

No expectations for me now, I would have been really crushed if I were an OU fan.
January 3rd, 2018 at 11:32 AM ^
some vintage Schembechler teams. The mindset was "we'll run the ball down your throat --- we have the line and the running backs to do it, and there's nothing you can do about it."

Loaded team, talented enough for the playoff - Iowa loss and OSU robbery were brutal.
We underachieved last year, no way to rationalize it. Harbaugh is a good coach, and has been incredibly unlucky in a few games...the Punt 6, and last year's OSU.
Luck reverts to the mean - he will start to get the breaks. Better we have shit luck, turnovers, and dumb mistakes now (this year) than in games that matter when we are competing for championships again.
We had the YOUNGEST team in college football this year, coupled with QB issues and injuries. If people are shitting on Harbaugh about this year, it's just dumb. Yes, with some more creativity and better coaching we could have won 10 games - but once again, he took the youngest team in CFB and had them within 1 possession in the 4th quarter of every game outside of gettting hammered by PSU.
3 years and we've been outclassed twice by superior teams, OSU 2015 and PSU 2017. Let that sink in, and realize that the ball will start to bounce our way once we have a QB making plays and some juniors and seniors on the field again. This program is in great hands.
I promise all of you, we will not be committing 5 turnovers a game going forward (MSU / South Carolina) as the youth develops. Stay the course, Harbaugh will win with solid teams, we don't need luck or smoke and mirrors.

Not a bunch of 5 stars all panning out. It's one of the most unique and important position groups on the field in that way. Sometimes a bunch of 3 to 4 star guys just start clicking on timing and pickups and just roll teams - other times a bunch of 5 stars just cant get it together and look disjointed.
Our current O-line now has some playing time together and will continue to develop. Harbaugh and Drevno figured it out at Stanford - give them the benefit of the doubt here. It's year 3 and he bottomed out at 8 wins with, again, the youngest team in the country.
If you think a guy as competitive as Harbaugh, with all that talent and coaching salaries on the staff, is going to let this ship sink, I think you are placing a poor bet.
We will not do better than Harbaugh. We can, however, upgrade at position coaches on the offensive side of the ball - and I expect him to do exactly that.

The fanbase and program have given him incredible amounts of resources and support. He was the perfect candidate and the stars aligned to bring him here. Going forward, it will all depend on him. Does he take the approach he did on defense (hire the best guys for the job, based on their resume, even if he hasn't worked with them before) or does he take the approach he has largely done so far on offense, hiring people he knows who are former NFL coaches, who have not adapted to the college game, who do not have a track record of success in the college game, and who have little interest (or skill) in recruiting? If he sticks to the latter, it is unlikely that even consistent top-10 or top-20 defenses will be able to counterbalance just how bad our offenses will be. We have institutional/structural limitations that prevent us from being on the level of Alabama or Georgia consistently (much less in-state talent, we don't cheat in recruiting, higher academic standards, etc.), but without a change to how we approach offensive coaching (and recruiting by the offensive staff), I don't see Harbaugh having the Bo-like tenure that could be attainable, that most of the fanbase would be happy with, and that he might want as well.

I don't expect all our problems to be gone in 2018, but I'm well over 2017. Future is still bright, even if it isn't immediately so.
January 3rd, 2018 at 8:36 AM ^
Over the bowl game? Sure, I was over that 5 minutes after the game. OK with the direction that this team is headed? Absolutely not. Next year is going to be brutal, I fully expect 7-8 wins unless some MAJOR changes happen on the offensive side of the ball. If anybody thinks this off season is going to be bad just wait until next year if we only win 7 games.

EXORCISE THESE DEMONS.
I'm very over it. Fuck all this shit. Harbaugh should play the "What is best in life?" from Conan the Barbarian over and over until it's embedded in these kids' heads. We've been the victims far too long - now let's be the VICTORS! It's TIME TO WIN AGAIN!

I'll be over it and tuned out if no real change is affected. And to me that means a firing of Drevno at the very least. If that doesn't happen, I'm done with next year and I'll check back in around late October to see how they're doing. After the "lost decade" and this roller coaster ride, I need a beather.

8-5 ties the 2nd best season of the 7 years before Harb's arrival. Let's keep that in perspective.

Moving on from a rough 2017 season!
The Team will use this season to learn a lot from and improve in every way! I have very high hopes for 2018 and I like the way Michigan's schedule is set up. They start off getting thrown in the fire and I think that's exactly what they need. Hers's to a loooong and boring off-seaon and winter, I can't wait for the 2018 season to start!! Go Blue!!

Still embarrassed, but it's not occupying my every thought. I am predicting 11.5 total wins next year (yeah, yeah, not enough of a spine to pick a solid integer).
January 3rd, 2018 at 11:51 AM ^
I am ready for next season but will never forget how sh*tty our QB's played and the lack of fire from everyone this season. Hopefully we can be the next Georgia, please just let our QB complete a pass and not look like he is afraid of EVERYTHING
January 3rd, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
Team will be fine. Growth will continue. Barring devistating injuries, 2018, despite the away schedule, will result in a better record. Harbaugh will address coaching issues over the next month or so.
This season will be the floor of Harbaugh's time at Michigan.
Go Blue!

Her (yelling): Aren’t you embarrassed to be wearing that (points to my maize Michigan sweatshirt), it’s so embarrassing.
Me: Nope, never (shakes my head and walks away)
Her: No, no, I’m a Michigan fan too (trails off, not sure what she says after that, I walk away)
I only wish I had my guard up more to tell her that she is what’s wrong with the program, not the players/coaches/team. I was too stunned and tired to really fire back.

As long as no one publishes a magazine cover showing Harbaugh in a tux and Shea in a wedding dress....... it'll probably be ok.
