The new design took eons to put in place. I wouldn't hold your breath.

I will say that many aspects of it are well-done and a vast improvement. However, there are a lot of finishing touches that aren't there, and some just plain weird UX decisions (the bizarre nested thread phantom boxes, and how spell check is broken on chrome in the text editor for comments, comes to mind). Kudos to the company who stepped in to get an upgrade done - Drupal is a hellish platform, and I'm not sure why a migration to a better one wasn't made - but the finished product smacks of a small regional firm that is relatively new to the industry, or just doesn't specialize in UX and design.

These are the real issues. And what's up with the funky bug at the bottom of the comments pages, with the content smushed on the left? CSS is hard.

06/28/2018 - 8:00pm Listened because I'm curious…

Listened because I'm curious to find out what kind of fruitbats are running for office up there since I left the state in my rear view for warmer climates and better economies. Does not seem to have improved. Same old rhetoric.

Anyone not aware of MGoBlog's runner's bias ("bias" is not a George Carlin four-letter word btw) might be surprised that a politician showed up looking for an interview. Honestly, that's pretty strategic on the part of the candidate: The @mgoblog twitter account has for a long time been a friend to left-leaning ideas, it's got a poopton of followers, and the site is well-known to be popular with the fan base and brings together people from all over the state. If someone was looking for exposure in a crowd sympathetic to their platform, this would be a good stop.

Even after listening, count me in the crowd that found it disappointing that MGoBlog decided to get involved and self-violate one of the most sacred rules (even though it's been said "it's for the public, not for the admins"). Looks like only about 30% of the replies aren't in favor of the politic-wading, so I doubt that's going to be a deterrent. Did it make me curious? Youbetcha. Was it interesting? Nah.

03/02/2018 - 10:43am Time to get some new

Time to get some new spectacles for that beak, you may in fact be going blind. Let's break it down since you can't seem to stay on track here:

OP suggests that the balls changed.

East German Judge: "In addition..." suggests that maybe the players have better training and perhaps unknown drugs. IN ADDITION TO THE BALLS CHANGING.

Me: "It's possible, here's an anecdotal story that may lend to it" Not denying the possibility of additional factors for a situation in which we're not privy to all the details is reasonable, because we're not know-it-alls.

Mr. Miggle: "You two are insane if you think that's all changed since the 2015 All Star game. The balls did."

Me: "I was agreeing that the balls have changed"

Mr. Miggle: "Am I blind or were you agreeing with a post that said the recent jump in HRs may be also due to players training more or drugs?"

You are blind. I wasn't agreeing or asserting that was the case. I was stating that it's possible. Because that's reasonable to do. Critisism is fine, but I'm not the one with the reading comprehension issues.

Grumpy Internet Guy is Grumpy, News at 11.

The talking heads for the league routinely deny that the ball is different. They get really squirmy when "juiced" is mentioned.

03/01/2018 - 10:42pm It's possible. I train

It's possible. I train (poorly) at a local gym in Tampa that services a lot of pros and ball players in the minors - the workouts they go through are insane. Atheltic machines, those guys. But at the same time it's hard to ignore some hard evidence that the balls have indeed changed.

02/20/2018 - 9:18am WIngs will continue to be

WIngs will continue to be mediorce until they dump Howard. I've been saying it for nearly a decade: Howard is not the answer. He's never been the answer. Consistently awful in the post-season, and streaky as hell in the regular season.

I was going to go to the game last Thursday here in Tampa until I found out he was going to be between the pipes. 'Lo and behold they got smoked.

Watching Yzerman sit down here and build a competitive product year after year is frustrating as hell. Holland is past him prime, and his mojo left long ago. The front office in Detroit needs a thorough spring cleaning.

I'll be over it and tuned out if no real change is affected. And to me that means a firing of Drevno at the very least. If that doesn't happen, I'm done with next year and I'll check back in around late October to see how they're doing. After the "lost decade" and this roller coaster ride, I need a beather.

12/18/2017 - 1:07pm One wonders which bay-area

One wonders which bay-area high school they have doing the editing. The Tampa Bay Times is a joke, plain and simple, and they struggle to stay relevant down here. (They boast pulitzers, but won them before they went nearly all-editorial) They have a side periodical named "TBT*" that's a sarcastic, hot-take rag that gets more readership.

Point being; I'm not surprised by this glaring error.

12/13/2017 - 11:17am Privacy Badger is the new

Privacy Badger is the new must-have extension. Created and maintained by the EFF. It can be a little overly-cautious, but easy to disable or allow resources. Whenever I start seeing that stuff via the ad providers, I turn those on. Usually wait a week and turn them back off to help fund the site.

I'll echo the sentiment. I even reached out the admins directly, well over a year ago, to offer my services gratis. I'm presently using the Stylish Chrome Extension and a stylesheet (that was no easy task to write, given the rather outdated html structure on the site) for that extension that completely changes the layout, colors, and fonts for the site to make it more readable and mobile-friendly.

Fellas, if you were from Tampa then you shouldn't have forgotten that there is nearly zero humidity in January. It's the number one reason I chose that month for my wedding. Come on now.

12/06/2017 - 3:43pm Disagree with this

RayJay has enjoyed some great upgrades and it's hardly a dump. The area around it is less industrial than it is residential. The Yankees spring training facility is literally across the street. Lots of parking and space to tailgate.

Haters 'gon hate I suppose

12/04/2017 - 11:45pm It's a pretty large metro

It's a pretty large metro area (not tri-county detroit big, but still). If you can let me know where you'll primarily be or what you'll be up to, I could def give you the heads up on the best areas. You wouldn't want to be stuck on the wrong side of a bridge (there are 4 across the bay) for certain events. AirBnB is a great way to go down here as well - always always stay in previously rated properties.

Beaches (Pinellas County)

Avoid beach-area rentals right off the beach. You'll get hit with a premium and they tend to be kinda lousy. Shoot for rentals more than a block off the beach. You'll find larger houses and less expensive apartments/condos. I'd recommend Indian Rocks or Madeira Beach, and beaches south of that. Clearwater Beach while beautiful is always bananas. If you're looking to go North of Clearwater Beach, Dunedin (done-eed-in) is pretty cool.

Tampa Proper

South Tampa is the spot to be. A little higher cost but the AirBnB rentals tend to be better. I created a map to highlight the area with road boundaries that should help out when searching https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tcX07stCZEGJsAX3tN1MAMcCrAD4iq5w&usp=…

West Tampa is very Hispanic - nothing against it, just good to know.

St. Pete

Lots of folks confuse "Tampa" with "Tampa Bay" and throw in Pinellas county, the beaches and St. Pete in the same bucket. If you're lookig to stay in St. Pete, the Old Northeast is a great area.  The city of Clearwater (different than the beach) has some nice areas with nice homes, but I'm not that familiar with it.

Lots of apartments near Gandy Blvd in Pinellas/St Pete. I've stayed there in the past (before I moved down) and they're good. There's also Shore Acers right off Gandy with lots of waterfront homes if you're going to go all baller.

Areas to Avoid

If it's Tampa proper, you'll want to avoid staying Ybor, Riverside Heights, and Tampa Heights. All three are considered rough areas. Seminole Heights is the area that just dealt with a "serial killer" - it's a big mix of shady-as-hell and up-and-coming. If you dig Corktown in Detroit you might think staying there is cool. Avoid being near MLK. On one end it's industrial and on the other, well, it gets rough. Staying down by MacDill AFB is OK, lots of rentals down that way, but you'll be a good distance from everything.

Do not stay south of 1st St and don't stay West of Tropicana Field in St. Pete. Avoid the other cities in Pinellas county; Largo, Pinellas Park, etc. They're not bad, they're just not great places to stay.

12/04/2017 - 4:59pm Sad Panda

Tampa gets no love from Brian. Tampa kicks ass though, if you need recommendations and have time to do stuff outside of the airport, hotel and stadium let me know. Happy to share the best parts of this place.

11/29/2017 - 5:58pm Oh dear Lord the Cowbells

THE SINGULAR MOST ANNOYING FAN BASE EVER comes from South Carolina. I went to this game the year before I moved to Tampa, while I was down visiting my folks. We bought some generic didnt-care-where tickets and were surrounded by a legion of idiots with cowbells and whistles who proceeded to let loose the dogs of hell on those instruments on EVERY. SINGLE. PLAY.

Here's hoping this go round turns out to be significantly better.

Somewhat related; if anyone is planning on flying down/over and wants some Tampa tips, I'm happy to help. (I love this town)

11/25/2017 - 5:23pm There needs to be financial accountability

And administered by an "objective" third party. If their pay was based on their accuracy calling the games, we'd get the highest quality refs possible. There'd be no room for bias, or they'd be paid practically nothing, run out of the game by better refs.

Attach a dollar sign to how they call the game (please leave tin foil hats at the door) and you get an impartial officiating crew.

11/25/2017 - 11:08am OT Reply: Tampa Watching

I can't post new topics yet because I lurk too much. And yeah this is somewhat off topic for the thread - Is anyone watching at a central location in Tampa proper? Not keen on making the 40 minute trek to St Pete to watch at Fergs.

11/12/2017 - 2:13pm For those interested

Since it doesn't look like Blue and Joe is watching the thread any longer, I opened up the promo images in Illustrator and have started working on reproducing the font in vector format. Here's the finished "MICHIGAN" portion of the promo:

I worked around the smoothing and the outline present in the promo and put this together using shapes. This is not exact, and there are some artifacts that are so small I didn't feel like futzing with. When I get done I'll post the AI file on Github so everyone can use it, and hopefully, contribute small corrections where needed.

11/12/2017 - 12:15am I'm sorry but

I saw what he did for the players and program at CMU during my last year(s) of the tenure of a better part of a decade in the flattest mountain of michigan. He's not a bad dude. He just turns various shades of red on a dime.
