Jumpman Football uniforms (PHOTO)
I woke up to a nice surprise this morning. Someone tweeted this and it was brought to my attention.

The font we're using is NBA Bulls. The first change to the font in almost 50 years. The classic #2 worn by Woodson is gone.
Are we going to have someone say this every time a jumpman/football thing is shown? It's a brand. You'll get used to it.
I get that the logo is of a man dunking a ball. But, that logo has become so commonplace in sports, and in particular sports apparel, that I (and, I suspect, many others) don't even look at it as anything more than a logo. Nobody complained that the jumpman looked stupid when it was on Jeter's batting gloves or Charles Woodon's NFL cleats.
True, but individual players wearing it on gloves or shoes is not as prominant as every player wearing it on the front of their jersey.
I am 100% fine with it, but I do think it looks unusual. I bet by the end of this season I will be fully acclimated to it.
get this. I thought his Hall of Fame speech was misguided. Aside from that, I don't understand why many people have so much of a problem with him. I mean, I get it, he had some issues. He clearly had a gambling problem and turned out to be (gasp) a famous NBA basketball player who was not entirely faithful to his wife.
But what annoys you specifically? He is well educated, well spoken, often gracious, has never had any issues with the law, avoids political involvement like the plague, never really seeks attention (contrast with Barkley or Shaq) and largely stays completely out of the news in every regard. What is it about him that you don't like?

Jordan dethroned the Pistons before making his historic run with the Bulls and was responsible for Thomas getting snubbed for the dream team.
That said, I don't hate the guy, and fully admit he was the greatest, if not all time, of my time. Can never say I was rooting for him or the bulls while he was playing though.
...so, as one might expect, I have some residual vexation regarding MJ.
I don't like him because he kept Isiah off the Dream Team. Great player but kind of a dick move IMO.
The logo itself on the uni's doesn't bother me. It's a great logo, but I'm personally not a fan of Jordan.

To be fair to MJ, Isiah Thomas dug his own grave by making enemies with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson too. It wasn't just MJ who didn't want Isiah on the team, none of those three did.
"Gracious" isn't a word usually used to describe Michael Jordan. Much of what you've said is true and all good things, but not the "gracious" part. Maybe more so of late, but not at all during his playing days.
he was an extremely competitive person, but he was never amatuerish in defeat(contrast with Zeke). He was always available to the media and gave contrite, actual answers to questions. He remained loyal to one franchise for nearly his entire (effective) playing career and commanded fierce loyalty from his teammates (whom he always defended). He had good relationships with many other players including many he played against. If by "not gracious" you mean he would punch Reggie Miller, Dennis Rodman, Charles Smith, Xavier McDaniel et. al. in the face if they asked for it, I agree, but I always viewed that as a breath of fresh air.
Yeah, he used his leverage to keep Isiah off the Dream Team, but frankly, Isiah was kind of dick who was far less liked and/or admired by other players than Jordan was. Being a "bad boy" had its consequences and that was one of them. Perhaps he should have shook hands instead of ducking and running after Game 4 and he would have made the trip to Barcelona.

You can't have it both ways. Jordan's non-stop whinning and crying, trash talk and (alleged) gambling problem is being extremely "competitive?" But, Zeke's refusal to kiss Jordan's ass is being a "dick" which deserved his being kept off of the Dream Team? That's just laughable.
I am fine if you want to say both teams hated each other and that hatred resulted in dickish behavior on both sides. But then you'd have to admit that Jordan is not a very nice person (and may have some other issues).
I am fine if you want to buy "jumpman" suff. I hope Nike charges you a nice premium for it. Just don't act all outraged that a number of people don't share your opinion.
own one piece of Jumpman apparel and won't start now. I have two kids draining my pocket book and can't afford all that. I just don't really have any reason to believe that he is a bad person. I certainly don't have any evidence that his dad got killed because of a gambling debt, which is pretty much the biggest bullshit rumor taken for truth out there today.

kind of responding to both. I just hear a lot of people talk about him like he is the very essence of evil and I don't know why that is. He was not a bright, shining perfect role model and had some notable issues, but I don't get why he is targeted as such a bad dude all the time. Outside of competition on the basketball floor, I have never seen the guy disrespect anybody or even be short with reporters, media, etc. I don't get the hate.

This is false. Jordan has been making football cleats since the Mid 2000s....
During the early to mid-2000s, it felt like Jordan Brand had just as many football players as basketball players. Warren Sapp, Eddie George, Owens and Jason Taylor were all favoring the Jumpman at the time, but it was Charles Woodson who was just a class above the rest. Whether he was a Wolverine (only defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy), a Raider (multiple Pro Bowls) or a Packer (Super Bowl champion), Woodson let his accomplishments do the talking...).
I couldn't agree with you more. When I first posted last spring that I sincerely hoped the Jumpman logo didn't appear on the football gear, I was met with a promise from someone that they would stay off my lawn.
I'm struggling to understand how a fan base so hateful of "piping" would embrace a font change and a basketball player's image showing up on their proud football uniforms.
We wanted Nike, and Nike's what we got.
I'm guessing they're more forgiving of the Jumpman thing for one simple reason: Unlike Adidas' piping, which was purely a question of aesthetics, being the only college football team with the Jumpman brand actually gives our team a better chance of winning than not having it.
By all accounts, the kids we are recruiting absolutely love Jumpman gear. It is an honest-to-god recruiting boon. That means we will presumably be better (even if only marginally) because of the brand.
For the record, I think having a basketball logo on a football uniform is silly and looks weird... but if it helps us recruit, I'll happily swallow the scorn and smile as we win.
if it gives young HS stars one more reason to go blue, I'm good with it.

how old are you? things do change. the maize pants where gone from the road uniforms in the mid seventies for three years, and i think they came back. and like the guy said they aren`t sleepers, they could be mixed and matched.
The choice of "NBA Bulls" font was obviously not a coincidence with the transition to the Jumpman uniforms. That's the font from Jordan's old uniforms.
I hate all things Jordan. This goes beyond my dislike of all things Nike. Now I have to look at several hundred flying Jordans when I watch a football game... Kill me too, please.
People in Southeast Michigan love Michael Jordan, so it's ok.
who has been an avid supporter of the move to Jumpman, I do have to confess that the logo on the uniform looks a little bit stranger than I envisioned in my head. Perhaps it is because I expected only one logo, on the pants or the jersey, but not on both. I don't hate them and the uniforms themselves look excellent, but we do kind of look like the University of Michael Jordon more than I expected.

We have an NBA font and basketball player on our football uniforms? This is beyond dumb.
not get carried away here. Adidas turned us into a clown show for close to ten years and we collectively pined for change. These are not perfect as I have opined above but they look good. They are nice, crisp uniforms with a classic feel (aside from the logo). It could be a lot worse, and in fact has been for a number of years.
Just because Adidas was a total disaster doesn't make this good. Why couldn't they keep the classic font? Why is a North Carolina basketball player on the front of a Michigan football jersey? Why didn't jumpman stick to shoes if we wanted it so bad?

edit: just noticed that a dunking basketball player will be on the front of the jersey, and the pants, and the shoes. DUMB.
