When Ryan Mallett wakes up, he’s going to be so pissed.

Ryan Mallett's brain trying to control Ryan Mallett's physical gifts is like an Atari controller trying to control a top of the line iMac.

O'Brien didn't screw Mallett, Mallett screwed himself. He's got all the talent in the world, but he pisses his opportunity away because he's too immature to wake up in time for a team flight. And it's not like this is the first time this has happened. If you can't trust a guy to catch a flight in time, something that should be extremely simple, you probably shouldn't trust him to be able to take command of your offense and lead your entire team.
I have no sympathy for guys like Mallett. They think the world should revolve around them when in fact he should've just been thankful he still had a job in the league.

Ryan Mallett is also a dick. A dick who was being paid very well to hold a clipboard and show up on time. I guess that was asking too much for $2.5 million.
October 27th, 2015 at 5:36 PM ^
Whether or not O'Brien is one is meaningless. Get to the plane on time, don;t miss practice. Simple.
October 27th, 2015 at 2:52 PM ^
If Mallett was a team player and didn't always act like a baby who got his favorite toy taken away, then maybe O'Brien would've given him another shot.

applies.
1. Make Sure That You Don't Suck
Before you go out and start committing crimes, it's important to first make sure that you're at least slightly better than the 30 or 40 guys that the team's assistant GM could instantly pull off some practice squad to replace you.

When you've demonstrated leadership throughout your career, you've earned the benefit of the doubt (as opposed to someone who has demonstrated the exact opposite of leadership).

True leaders shouldn't need the benefit of the doubt.

To be fair though, Houston traffic is a bitch. Depending on where and when he was traveling, I can see him getting stuck in trafic.
October 27th, 2015 at 6:37 PM ^
That's true of most of the cities in the NFL though.
Maybe he should ask to be traded to Green Bay.

Detroit, Chicago.............
Nobody goes to those
Stadiums anyway.

He slept in late during preseason, too. It's apparently enough of a thing with him that they did a bit on Hard Knocks about it.

I know of at least one other time he overslept, was late to practice during camp, and was sent home by O'Brien.
October 27th, 2015 at 5:37 PM ^
So yeah...
October 27th, 2015 at 7:23 PM ^
I know of at least one time he farted in a team meeting...........

And if you had your ear to the ground enough when Ryan was in A2, this isn't anything surprising, either.

NFL contracts are not guaranteed. I'm sure he'll miss the $$$.
October 27th, 2015 at 1:36 PM ^
The guy had all the arm talent in the world. Too bad he was too dumb/lazy to do anything with it. Too bad he was so dumb/lazy that he already made his millions; there are thousands of other people more deserving and millions that would love to have the natural talent he had.
In summary, he's dumb and lazy, and that seems too bad for everyone.

promising qb's over the years, doesn't it?
Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, Johnny Football...
October 27th, 2015 at 1:59 PM ^
Johnny's in his 2nd year. Kinda early to be writing him off, no? If the Browns would ever get their heads out of their asses and start playing him over McCown, we might see what he's made of now that he's seemed to have cleaned up his act.

didn't he just have another incident with the law a week or so ago?
October 27th, 2015 at 3:00 PM ^
Yes, drinking in the AM and physically fighting with his girlfriend. That's a winning combination.
October 27th, 2015 at 5:14 PM ^
'alleged' girlfriend?
October 27th, 2015 at 2:00 PM ^
Early prognosis is not good, obviously, but the fact that he even went to rehab after his first year puts him ahead of Ryan Leaf already.

I've worked with these kids. A lot. The entitlement is unreal.
Especially when there are so many others kids, with all the drive and determination in the world, but lack the parental support/effort necessary to achievement.

he wants to play for Caldwell somewhere else he shouldn't make the call. Caldwell is Gone with a capital G. Not often you see a team quit so comprehensively as the Lions have this year.
