Gymnasts, cheerleaders, and soccer players are at great risk, and for some injuries MORE risk, than football players.

Football's a tough sport but it is my no means a sentence for long term brain disorders.  More kids should play because it teaches a hell of a lot of life lessons.

01/17/2019 - 1:35pm 86%?

No way.   The vast…

86%?

No way.   The vast majority of ex-players live healthy, normal lives.  Are there more pings and pangs?  Probably.  But it's a contact sport so you're bound to have more than the average joe.

Football won't fade and shouldn't be banned.  Good God man.

12/27/2018 - 1:25pm Well, ESPN owns the SEC…

Well, ESPN owns the SEC Network and the right to broadcast the CFP.

The system is unfair and biased.  ESPN gives air time to chumps like Paul Finebaum, David Pollock, Tim Tebow, and hundreds of other turds so they can shamelessly schlep for the SEC - a thinly veiled ploy by ESPN to protect their interests.

Sometimes I hear things on that station that makes me want to rip my hair out.

"At halftime I knew we weren't stopping Ohio State's offense"

Think about that for a second.  How did TCU, Penn State, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Nebraska, and Maryland give the Buckeyes a better game than we did?  Do they have a better defense?  Nope.  Do they have superior athletes?  Nope.  Do they have better coaches?  No.  What they had was a a faster paced offense that took advantage of OSU's defense but more importantly wore on their whole team, mentally.

What does an opponents faster paced offense have to do with stopping Ohio's State's offense?  Because they're 18-22 year old kids.

What the **** am I talking about?

I'll tell you.  When you get into a game where one of your units isn't performing, it effects the other units. When your offense scores but your defense goes out and let the other team drive down the field to score themselves, it's a mental gut punch.  Your team is looking for a spark - something that creates an advantage.  That's why turnovers are considered Sudden Change and it's also why teams celebrate takeaways so much.  It's a tactical and mental advantage.

You don't need any further proof than our game last Saturday.  There's a dropped touchdown in the first half that would have probably sent the teams to halftime tied.  Instead, our team doesn't get that touchdown AND allows Ohio State to march 70 yards for a FG and a 5 point lead.

In the second half, the defense does its job again by holding OSU to a field goal.  How does the offense respond? By dropping another pass. And then there's a blocked FG.  And then there's an interceptions.  How does that effect the defense?  They let Paris Campbell sprint around the edge for a touchdown on their first play of the drive.  This shit wears on the players, and that's a fact.  They already know Ohio State is playing better than anything they've shown on film.  And they have the most hostile crowd in the Big Ten all up in their ass.  Throw in dropped passes and a blocked punt, and you can forget about it.

Those teams I mentioned above have inferior talent, there's no question about it.  But their players played way above themselves because they FELT like they were in the game the entire way. When Ohio State scored, their team came back and scored.  That inspires kids.  That shit is real.  Anyone who says otherwise hasn't played sports.

Sorry for rant.

When you can change your crystal ball at the last minute because someone at the kid's announcement party texted you that the kid is wearing "so-and-so's jersey under his coat", is it really that impressive to go 20 for 21?

I can predict the rain a minute before it happens if the guy 2 streets over texts me that rain just started falling.

I grew up reading guys like Jim Murray and Mike Downey, listening to the incomparable Jim Healey, and watching Howard Cossell, Dick Enberg, Pat Summerall, Merlin Olsen, and Don Meredith.

I hate getting old because that era of sports writers and announcers is slowly dying off.

Sigh.

As a former longtime chewer, I take note of people who endulge in the habit.  It's a tough habit to kick, that's for sure.

I remember Ohio State got cited for a violation because Vrabel used to chew on the sidelines.  I wonder if Michigan is getting cited for the same thing.

I saw this at the Victors Collection a week ago and didn't think anything of it.  I said to the guys working, lol "look at that. A dedazzled helmet."

Since then, I've seen it on the twitters and now here.  Apparently it wrankles people a little more than I thought it would.

Of course I'm speculating here, but I assume he left after 4 days of camp because he wasn't getting the reps he felt he deserved.  Seems premature to depart when A) there's plenty of time to compete & win a job, and B) the depth Brian detailed in his post.

See ya, I guess.  Good luck.

I'd edit my previous post of I could.  I misread your post.

I dabble in writing (did a series on MGB on players from back in the 80s).  The poster below is correct: write, write, write.  Put thoughts on paper when they pop in your head.  Use your phones voice notes app so when you think of something, you don't forget it later.  And finally, write about stuff you're passionate about.  Your attitude comes through your written word.  Readers can sense of you've mailed it in.

(At least that's how I remembered it).

Don't know how I could forget. It was basically the highlight of Rodriguez's time here.
