I'm (5-1) since Freshman year in games I've attended vs nd - all in A2 - including both UTL wins and Desmond stretching out in the Fall of '91

05/18/2018 - 6:22pm Yep, FOLSOM FIELD. Beer

Yep, FOLSOM FIELD.

Beer gardens and the Flatirons ..makes it easier to watch the program on the field at times.  Been to anywhere from 1-3 games the past 5yrs or so.  Company has a suite on the 50yd line.

Great place to see a show as well!

05/14/2018 - 3:49pm Another shift I have seen

Another shift I have seen with my friends sending kids off to college - keeping the kids at home and/or opting for a smaller, community college to take care of the core classes and then transferring to a University.  Neighbor did that with his daughter after her older sister went off and 'lost herself' Freshman year and had to drop out.

05/14/2018 - 11:39am I don't think the scandal is

I don't think the scandal is a deterrant to in state kids who can no longer get into UM and are choosing MSU instead.  USC is shooting up the academic rankings and has had record applications because of the same phenomenon at UCLA.

05/09/2018 - 3:44pm Georgetown is more like 50-60

Georgetown is more like 50-60 mins west of Denver up I-70 which given current traffic problems could take 2.5hrs, but yes, is much closer than Silverton.  My wife grew up in the mountains and they lovingly refer to the Georgetown Loop as "that f***ing train!"  lol

05/09/2018 - 12:12pm Silverton while on a business

Silverton while on a business trip to Denver.....?

That's over 7 hours away.

05/09/2018 - 12:06pm I've been a road warrior for

I've been a road warrior for over 15yrs now (happily married almost 17yrs now, with children) and do anywhere from 60-100 hotel nights/year.  Never much been one to wander over to a strip club by myself but sitting in the room gets lame and lonely.  I've found that when I stay at the same hotels when I'm on the road, I've gotten to know the bartenders and other regular travelers.  I've had some random nights in, say Old Town Scottsdale, where I've gone to dinner with other travlers just because we're all in the same boat.  One recent development that I love is that many hotel TVs offer Apps like Pandora and HULU through the TV so I often now put Pandora on when I'm working in the room.

A co-worker of mine looks for things like hiking trails and other 'local attractions' and I always make time to work out, to both kill time and reduce stress.  It's usually pretty easy and cheap to grab a MLB ticket if there's a local game and even sometimes for an NBA game.  I think just walking a new city or place can be a good way to get to see things and a rule I try to keep is - no chains.  I don't eat at PF Chang's or Chili's or any chain unless it's completely unavoidable.

And coincidentally, or ironically, to the OP I am from Denver and still live here (for now).  From what I gather, it's cool to check out dispensaries and try edibles and then freak out in your hotel room.  That's the word on the street anyways ....Angels are at Coors Field tonight, too.

I will have to take your word on that.

05/09/2018 - 9:53am Back in the day in Boulder

Back in the day in Boulder there was a student who dressed up as the Pregnant Nun and ran around the student section.  That tradition was passed down for a few years but has largely now disappeared.  Of course it was a STUDENT SuperFan and not some 50-something "adult" with nothing better to do.

05/03/2018 - 6:27pm How terrible. Nothing more

How terrible. Nothing more gut wrenching than getting news like that. Feel so helpless. Thoughts and well wishes and prayers for the family.

05/01/2018 - 3:26pm That's how I felt when IT

That's how I felt when IT happened ...then my (then) 9yr old son said simply, "well, let's go" and headed up the aisle to leave the stadium.

pulled me back in, the little fella!

05/01/2018 - 3:05pm I went to Harbaugh's first

I went to Harbaugh's first game at Utah and have to say their fans are ridiculously nice and friendly.  The harshest 'trash talk' we heard was from some guy yelling at Harbaugh for benching Alex Smith in favor of Kaepernick ...who of course lead the Niners to the SuperBowl.

During halftime while heading to the food trucks that they pull into the stadium, a woman blocked my way like happens sometimes ("did you want to dance?") but was intentionally doing it to in order to stop me so she could Thank me for coming to the game and Wish me luck and to have a great time!

It was like an alternate "scarlet and black" universe

05/01/2018 - 12:23pm Last year vs state ...

Last year vs state, soaked to the bone on the 50yd line as miserable as I’ve ever been in the stadium.

And 2015 vs state for obvious reason

04/30/2018 - 12:35pm Been to Two Rose Bowls ...

Been to two Rose Bowls and am for better or worse, basically a part-time resident of SoCal.  I was there all week last week, can attest to the horrific traffic after 15yrs of contributing to it but can also definitely understand the draw to living there.  One thing that those visiting don't always realize is that most who live in LA, stick to where they live and arent' zig zagging all over.  For example, if you're in the South Bay, you stick to the SB and if you're in Pasadena/Glendale/N LA, you tend to stay up in that side ...and so on.

As for Rose Bowls - the tailgating on the GC was as good as it is in A2 doing the same.  The stadium itself is very much like M Stadium, before the remodel and expansion.  As stadiums go, it's got character and great sight lines and wonderful conditions (mostly), but it's not a great venue compared to the newer stadiums.

Sadly I could not swing the 97-98 Rose Bowl and National Championship and instead got to see two losses vs USC ..where the crowd was easily 75% SC fans (not alumni, fans).

The one 2004 loss vs Leinart and gang and a couple years later in 2008 when our boys looked completely overmatched.

I keep waiting for the Wolverines to make it back to the Rose Bowl even if it isn't a playoff game, but I'd happily take an Orange or Sugar or Cotton Bowl over the RB if it is because of the playoff.

Worst Bowl game I attended overall ...the BWW Bowl in Tempe vs KSU.  Shit stadium and worse game.  That was awful.

04/02/2018 - 3:19pm my stomach has been in a knot

my stomach has been in a knot the past 36 hours or so ...feel like I might puke.  having a lot of folks in the office - including a hardcore buckeye - stop by to say good luck and/or Go Blue!

But I am not productive at all today

Have some dignity.

Who fucking cares about buckeyes or spartans or domers or dukies?!

04/02/2018 - 1:03am Yet he replaced the disgraced

Yet he replaced the disgraced and sanctioned O'Brien.  Matta was supposed to be the Beilein for osu after the academic scandal and TAs doing player's work.

Tattgate overshadows it, but nobody ever remembers osu pre-Matta unless you're talking Fab Five era Jimmy Jackson.

02/20/2018 - 4:16pm Three years in a row -

Three years in a row - Webber's Soph, Junior and Senior at Country Day - CD traveled up to TC and played the largest HS in the state of Michigan (at the time) and won handily every game.  Some loser Dad wrote a letter to the editor at the TC Record-Eagle and bitched about the crowd/students going crazy after Webber's many jaw dropping dunks and deep 3-pointers.  His kid was the classic jock who'd never play beyond HS and he couldn't understand why the greatest talent to every grace the court in TC since the days of Thunder Dan Majerle got that response ...we students knew what we were watching.

Luckily I got to see a lot more in Ann Arbor the next few years.  More important to that Dad's story would have been mentioning that Webber could have played at SW with Jalen and Voshon Leonard ...imagine that!

02/20/2018 - 4:12pm Remember the game well

Remember the game well because I was a student at the time.

is this a radio program in Michigan?

12/28/2017 - 9:38am Barton is an amazing venue

Barton is an amazing venue and definitely unique when built. But all DU has is Hockey and Lacrosse and the Ritchie Center hockey arena is great too. The biggest deal for M is having a facility on par (or better than) others for recruiting.

My friends son starts at Maryland and was recruited by osu and psu - he said facilities at both were very impressive. I think combination of Conry & new digs will help accelerate ascension of the program.

Sometimes when opposing fans make fun of the MICHIGAN fanbase, I think of threads like this and say, “Yep, I hear ya.”

10/03/2017 - 1:13pm We will have sparties at the

We will have sparties at the tailgate who otherwise would be in Maize and Blue.  Grew up in A2 but graduated from state.  They're at every game.  Just wearing the wrong colors this Saturday!

10/03/2017 - 1:04pm Meh ...make it 'bulletin

Meh ...make it 'bulletin board' for the fans and make it a fucking AWAY GAME in every respect.

That said, we traveled further for almost every away HS sporting event I ever played in, driving from TC down to the next closest 5A school.

Having been at the 2015 & 2013 home games vs State, there were a lot of sparties.  But that's to be expected, right?

Just win.

10/03/2017 - 12:30pm They typically wait as long

They typically wait as long as possible but the issue is more the rain that may fall on Friday, making the course mushy and more likely to become damaged.  Last year for Colorado it rained on and off all day Saturday, but hadn't been raining ..not as bad.

As for closing the Course, it does screw with parking but it also reduces the number of folks tailgating in general.  There is also the difference between AAGO and the golf course and whether you are a Season Pass holder or Cash.  The course will often do partial closures versus full closures.

10/03/2017 - 10:33am True.
And even by an hourly

True.

And even by an hourly breakdown, a shift here/there can be huge.

10/03/2017 - 10:31am Watching weather as well.

Watching weather as well. For UTL-1 rain closed much of the GC and really screwed our tailgate plans. This weekend, were 40-50ppl, at least and a limited/closed GC would blow ...and esp if it rains Friday/night into Sat.

I don't mind rain for the game but the 10hr preparty is in jeopardy. We've had cold/rain in CO since yesterday morning ...system is moving slowly.

10/03/2017 - 1:44am Good point. I will go off

Good point. I will go off watching him play at Valor and confidence that both his IQ and skill set are very good and likely better than Peters. More specifically to the point, the indictment isn't that Peters can't play, he's just not 'getting it.' Hamilton's comments about McCaffrey were specific to how incredibly quickly he's learning the playbook.

Of course I can't say I watched a lot of Avon, IN football games.

10/02/2017 - 3:15pm Pep Hamilton said McCaffrey

Pep Hamilton said McCaffrey has one of the highest Football IQs he's ever come across as a coach.  That would mean he's pretty good and, presumably, better than Peters ...being that Pep said he's pretty much one of the sharpest he's coached.
