I don't know, but on Sunday…

I don't know, but on Sunday I was buying chicken breasts at the Market here in Denver and the dude helping me ...went to State, lived in GR for a while and ..just moved to Denver! (yea)  He then went on to explain how Friday's beatdown was BS and that Sparty would prevail (in meaningless) Sunday's game.

For some reason I have a hankering for pork chops this evening.  Perhaps I should go back to the grocery store and see what this State Alum thinks about his alma mater's performance versus Terrapin Station.....?

(they do it to themselves, brought to you by "Sparty Being Sparty")

ESPN has already reduced his camera time over the past few years and the guy had a stroke 10yrs ago for crying out loud.

Personally I solved this problem a few years ago. I don’t watch espn unless a game is on.

If you’ve ever played…

If you’ve ever played baseball you know that the catcher is usually always jawing ...the Ump talks and the dugouts will banter. I never heard shit when at the plate ..nothing. But I sure as hell ran my mouth from CF or 2nd or wherever I was defensively.

This example of the L’ville pitcher just makes me want to bury Vandy even more.

Fuck Vanderbilt!

No idea.  Wasn't a dime but maybe a quarter was worth 5 mins ...cost a $1 in quarters to dry.?  I honestly don't recall what I paid for SQ laundry in 1991 exactly.

He was totally cool …

He was totally cool ...something like, "oh man, that was you?!"  He was always really nice and among the 5 very approachable.  If you said "good game" or just made small talk, he'd treat you like a normal person.

One other time coming back from some random keg party, I wound up with the 5 in the elevator and Juwan looked at me and said, "hit 5 little man."

Webber and Rose were on the 5th floor across the front courtyard.  There were definitely some parties on that hall and around their room.  Girl from A2 who knew my friend was often a designated driver for the two when they'd go out.

Going from club to Varsity…

Going from club to Varsity was a HUGE jump and if you look at the history of college LAX, only a handful of programs have ever won the national title.  As the sport continues to explode nationally at the Youth level, the talent base will improve at college.

My friend's son Danny Dolan…

My friend's son Danny Dolan is the Maryland starting Goalie (grew up on LI with Rocco Sutherland) and was recruited to Maryland by Kevin Conry.  Conry's move to Ann Arbor should accelerate the progress of the program and when combined with the M brand, facilities and resources, I am excited to see where the program goes.  My U12 Middie would love to some day wear the winged LAX helmet for the Maize & Blue (though highly unlikely)

Beer gardens and the Flatirons ..makes it easier to watch the program on the field at times.  Been to anywhere from 1-3 games the past 5yrs or so.  Company has a suite on the 50yd line.

Another shift I have seen

Another shift I have seen with my friends sending kids off to college - keeping the kids at home and/or opting for a smaller, community college to take care of the core classes and then transferring to a University.  Neighbor did that with his daughter after her older sister went off and 'lost herself' Freshman year and had to drop out.

I don't think the scandal is

I don't think the scandal is a deterrant to in state kids who can no longer get into UM and are choosing MSU instead.  USC is shooting up the academic rankings and has had record applications because of the same phenomenon at UCLA.

Georgetown is more like 50-60

Georgetown is more like 50-60 mins west of Denver up I-70 which given current traffic problems could take 2.5hrs, but yes, is much closer than Silverton.  My wife grew up in the mountains and they lovingly refer to the Georgetown Loop as "that f***ing train!"  lol

That's over 7 hours away.

I've been a road warrior for

I've been a road warrior for over 15yrs now (happily married almost 17yrs now, with children) and do anywhere from 60-100 hotel nights/year.  Never much been one to wander over to a strip club by myself but sitting in the room gets lame and lonely.  I've found that when I stay at the same hotels when I'm on the road, I've gotten to know the bartenders and other regular travelers.  I've had some random nights in, say Old Town Scottsdale, where I've gone to dinner with other travlers just because we're all in the same boat.  One recent development that I love is that many hotel TVs offer Apps like Pandora and HULU through the TV so I often now put Pandora on when I'm working in the room.

A co-worker of mine looks for things like hiking trails and other 'local attractions' and I always make time to work out, to both kill time and reduce stress.  It's usually pretty easy and cheap to grab a MLB ticket if there's a local game and even sometimes for an NBA game.  I think just walking a new city or place can be a good way to get to see things and a rule I try to keep is - no chains.  I don't eat at PF Chang's or Chili's or any chain unless it's completely unavoidable.

And coincidentally, or ironically, to the OP I am from Denver and still live here (for now).  From what I gather, it's cool to check out dispensaries and try edibles and then freak out in your hotel room.  That's the word on the street anyways ....Angels are at Coors Field tonight, too.

I will have to take your word

I will have to take your word on that.

Back in the day in Boulder

Back in the day in Boulder there was a student who dressed up as the Pregnant Nun and ran around the student section.  That tradition was passed down for a few years but has largely now disappeared.  Of course it was a STUDENT SuperFan and not some 50-something "adult" with nothing better to do.

How terrible. Nothing more

How terrible. Nothing more gut wrenching than getting news like that. Feel so helpless. Thoughts and well wishes and prayers for the family.

That's how I felt when IT

That's how I felt when IT happened ...then my (then) 9yr old son said simply, "well, let's go" and headed up the aisle to leave the stadium.

pulled me back in, the little fella!

I went to Harbaugh's first

I went to Harbaugh's first game at Utah and have to say their fans are ridiculously nice and friendly.  The harshest 'trash talk' we heard was from some guy yelling at Harbaugh for benching Alex Smith in favor of Kaepernick ...who of course lead the Niners to the SuperBowl.

During halftime while heading to the food trucks that they pull into the stadium, a woman blocked my way like happens sometimes ("did you want to dance?") but was intentionally doing it to in order to stop me so she could Thank me for coming to the game and Wish me luck and to have a great time!

It was like an alternate "scarlet and black" universe

Last year vs state ...

Last year vs state, soaked to the bone on the 50yd line as miserable as I’ve ever been in the stadium.

And 2015 vs state for obvious reason

Been to Two Rose Bowls ...

Been to two Rose Bowls and am for better or worse, basically a part-time resident of SoCal.  I was there all week last week, can attest to the horrific traffic after 15yrs of contributing to it but can also definitely understand the draw to living there.  One thing that those visiting don't always realize is that most who live in LA, stick to where they live and arent' zig zagging all over.  For example, if you're in the South Bay, you stick to the SB and if you're in Pasadena/Glendale/N LA, you tend to stay up in that side ...and so on.

As for Rose Bowls - the tailgating on the GC was as good as it is in A2 doing the same.  The stadium itself is very much like M Stadium, before the remodel and expansion.  As stadiums go, it's got character and great sight lines and wonderful conditions (mostly), but it's not a great venue compared to the newer stadiums.

Sadly I could not swing the 97-98 Rose Bowl and National Championship and instead got to see two losses vs USC ..where the crowd was easily 75% SC fans (not alumni, fans).

The one 2004 loss vs Leinart and gang and a couple years later in 2008 when our boys looked completely overmatched.

I keep waiting for the Wolverines to make it back to the Rose Bowl even if it isn't a playoff game, but I'd happily take an Orange or Sugar or Cotton Bowl over the RB if it is because of the playoff.

Worst Bowl game I attended overall ...the BWW Bowl in Tempe vs KSU.  Shit stadium and worse game.  That was awful.

my stomach has been in a knot

my stomach has been in a knot the past 36 hours or so ...feel like I might puke.  having a lot of folks in the office - including a hardcore buckeye - stop by to say good luck and/or Go Blue!

Who fucking cares about buckeyes or spartans or domers or dukies?!

Yet he replaced the disgraced

Yet he replaced the disgraced and sanctioned O'Brien.  Matta was supposed to be the Beilein for osu after the academic scandal and TAs doing player's work.

Tattgate overshadows it, but nobody ever remembers osu pre-Matta unless you're talking Fab Five era Jimmy Jackson.

Three years in a row -

Three years in a row - Webber's Soph, Junior and Senior at Country Day - CD traveled up to TC and played the largest HS in the state of Michigan (at the time) and won handily every game.  Some loser Dad wrote a letter to the editor at the TC Record-Eagle and bitched about the crowd/students going crazy after Webber's many jaw dropping dunks and deep 3-pointers.  His kid was the classic jock who'd never play beyond HS and he couldn't understand why the greatest talent to every grace the court in TC since the days of Thunder Dan Majerle got that response ...we students knew what we were watching.

Luckily I got to see a lot more in Ann Arbor the next few years.  More important to that Dad's story would have been mentioning that Webber could have played at SW with Jalen and Voshon Leonard ...imagine that!
