That would be 10.5 on a neutral field or 13.5 if in Ann Arbor.

Doesn't seem too small to me in a rivalry game with MSU coming off a PSU win on the road.

As long as Alabama wins the SEC, a non-backing-in B1G champ (OSU or Mich) will get in.  Remember, last year it was eventual champion one-loss Alabama that got in over two-blowout loss OSU (to Iowa by 31 and to playoff participant Oklahoma at home by 15.)

The committee wisely hasn't locked itself into any hard and fast rules, but IMO, unless there's a strong case against a conference champion, then the conference champion wins any near-ties against a second team from a single conference.

It was 28-0 at halftime, after Michigan utterly dominated the first half.

Maryland moved the ball in the second half, but their 4th-string QB forced into action threw a gimme redzone INT to David Long.

Agreed.  I look at it as we didn't change positions with any one-loss teams that won.

On the other hand, for Stanford to be inserted ahead of us when they got smoked 38-17 to join the one-loss club doesn't seem right.

If I we're a coach voting in the poll, I'd have a media assistant prepare a suggested ranking with the result of each game and a one or two sentence summary of info that might be useful to cite in interviews.  Then I'd tweak the order to say it was my own.

Done.  5 minutes.  And it's my own ranking.

09/30/2018 - 1:40pm Keep in mind 1996 & 1997.

Keep in mind 1996 & 1997.

In 1996, Michigan beat end-of-season Top 5 teams Colorado & OSU on the road based on the strength of the defense.  Yet it went 8-4 because the offense gave it no room for error (and actually lost games with five turnovers vs Purdue & Penn State and the horrific pick six when we were on the Alabama 5 in position to kick a FG to go up 9-3.  Instead it became 6-10.  (I think this year induced the birth of Lloydball.)

In 1997, an improvement on offense to a team that could reliable score 20 points led to a 12-0 Natty.

Nah, neither of those reasons do it for me.

09/30/2018 - 1:36am The 538 chart with ten…

The 538 chart with ten minutes left for the NFL agrees.  However, had they run the same two point play and failed up 19-14, then the chart would have said to go for one after their next TD up 25-14.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/when-to-go-for-2-for-real/

The obvious one-step go up seven instead of six dominates the two step possibilities of stopping OSU & then going up 9 with a FG or incentivizing OSU to go for two had PSU failed followed by and OSU score (putting OSU up 20-19 pre-extra point).

A heel hitting first in-bounds followed by the rest of the foot coming down is out-of-bounds by rule...at least in the NFL, while conversely a toe-drag is in-bounds.

M 4th & 9 at MICH 15

(10:17 - 1st) Will Hart punt for 54 yds , Riley Lees returns for 5 yds to the Nwest 36. (NW drives for FG)

M 4th & 1 at NW 48

(2:17 - 1st) Karan Higdon run for no gain to the Nwest 48.  (NW drives for TD)

Tiger won 14 in eleven years in his prime, the most dominant ~decade of golf ever, so I think five in three or four years (to top Nicklaus) is definitely taking the over.

I think it's better to enjoy his resurgence for its own sake.  Win one for the Old Farts.  (That would be me.)

Agreed.

The missed opportunity for a 2nd down gain was on the play calling.  But we should have been in 3rd and 2/Goal.

Patterson was a much needed upgrade at QB, but he had the opportunity to throw it away and didn't.  That may have cost us 4 points.

Also, on our second drive of the game, he had an opportunity to throw it away from the ~30 on 3rd down but took an unnecessary 16 yard sack to take the team out of FG position.

Finally, his interception was a desperate chuck on 1st down.  Just throw it away and live for 2nd down.

At some point in the later rounds it's worth the risk. A 1st/2nd round talent with injury issues in the 5th/6th round?  At some point, there's going to be a taker.
