I've always done one of…

I've always done one of these alongside a real bracket. College sports has some great mascots, love imagining a fight between a Billiken (what's that?) and the Crimson Tide (like, a toxic algal bloom in the ocean? or a particularly heavy period?).

DeSean Jackson played 15…

Xavier Worthy (or any WR coming out of college, really) could do a LOT worse than to have DeSean Jackson's career: 15 years in the league, multiple Pro Bowls, and $90M+ in salary.

1. Casino Royale, although…

1. Casino Royale, although it's hard to pick because the eras are so different from each other. I have a soft spot for Goldeneye and even The World is Not Enough, with its immortal closing line.

2. Unconventional definition of superhero but I like El, the heroine of the Scholomance trilogy by Naomi Novik. She's an angry, lonely, incredibly overpowered teenager who learns, together with her peers, that magic only works well and sustainably when you use it collaboratively and without stealing from the weak.

3. Batman.

4. False because incomplete. Hokey pokey and turning yourself about are what it's all about.

Yes to both multiple days of…

Yes to both multiple days of lessons and private lessons, if you can afford them. Group lessons are a mixed bag IME. If small, then you'll probably get enough individual attention and that'll be great. If they're bigger (say, more than four people), the instructor is going to be spreading feedback out too much or focused too much on the weakest link to give you a lot of feedback. (Unless, of course, you are the weakest link.) You'll be overwhelmed the first day, a lesson the second day is an opportunity to consolidate what you learned the day before. If you're patient and pay attention, you should make big strides from one day to the next.

You'll be sore but not so sore that you can't get out of bed the next day. Soreness goes away for the most part with warming up, anyway.

Biggest advice is be patient and practice what you learn in the lesson, outside the lesson, even if you feel like you could go faster. Unless you think this is going to be a one-off and you're never gonna snowboard again, in which case: bombs away.

If we finish the season…

If we finish the season ranked #5, Sherrone Moore better win Coach of the Year.

Man, YTM's peak might have been relatively short but it was really high.

I prefer the Justice Potter…

I prefer the Justice Potter method: I know it when I see it. The correct answer is Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Oklahoma, Alabama, Penn State, ND, Nebraska, LSU, Tennessee, and Georgia. That list is also the 12 winningest teams, but I don’t think that’s a coincidence: “most wins” combines success and longevity.

It’s too soon for BPONE, man! We’re national champs! Give it a couple of weeks at least!

I wonder how many words have…

I wonder how many words have been published on MGoBlog since the beginning. Not including diaries or the boards or comments. Just main page posts. 3.5 million?

Nope, that’s not better.

Nope, that’s not better.

He did an interview for WILX a few days back, reflecting on the 1997 championship. Seems like he's still with it, although TBH he looks a bit old for 78!

I would not be as big a fan…

I would not be as big a fan as I am without this site, and especially without Brian. Reading it has brought me joy and satisfaction even during the all the bad times of the past 15+ years, and sharing the pain (and occasional elation) with such a writer has helped me stay dedicated to Michigan despite it all. As he said in his post tonight, I’m floating. Go Blue.

Huh?

Huh?

I wouldn't be surprised if…

I wouldn't be surprised if he plays, kid seems to be an absolute warrior, but I would be surprised if he's full-on.

Yeah his motion reminds me a little of Philip Rivers's. Not what you'd call textbook but seems plenty effective. Rivers rode his weird motion to a fringe HOF career in the NFL. I hope Penix can do the same, after he gets his ass beat by us on Monday.

Health insurance companies…

Health insurance companies are right down there with Ticketmaster among the absolute scum of the earth. Hope you get well soon and good luck with the ticket!

At a glance, looks like…

At a glance, looks like Pasadena, i.e., the Rose Bowl, is the most common place for the lineal championship to change hands, as well (22 times). That's pretty cool. Miami (Orange Bowl) next with 19.

I'm rooting for the funniest possible outcome: for McCord to come up here, turn into an unstoppable throw-god, and crush OSU en route to a fourth consecutive B1G title and playoff spot.

Young guy? He's 44! He's been a fully grown adult for more than 20 years! He's four years older than Mike Gundy was when he made the most legendary claim to being "a man" in history! I really don't understand the impulse to call him callow.

A fan site being down is maybe the one thing MGoBlog users can't mock OSU for today.

If it's really 18-17 Michigan, I may have a literal heart attack. 37-year-old me is also firmly 11-year-old Raj today.

My new wife and I (married 13 days and going strong!) are hosting a few friends who are Thanksgiving orphans, since we've both had enough of big family gatherings for a while. The menu:

  • Turkey, spatchcocked, dry brined with brown sugar, salt, pepper, and dried thyme and rubbed with olive oil and fresh sage/rosemary/thyme
  • Green bean casserole with fried shallots and homemade cream of mushroom
  • Candied yams with marshmallows on top
  • A big old green salad
  • Pumpkin cheesecake with whipped cream
  • Leftover wine and beer from our wedding

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all.

Willis McGahee, 2003 Fiesta Bowl against goddamn OSU. First time I remember watching a knee bend the wrong way like that.

Having a messed up leg could very well have a LOT to do with ball placement. You ever try to throw a ball at a distant, moving target off one leg?

I haven't seen this posted…

I haven't seen this posted anywhere on the boards yet and it didn't seem thread-worthy, so on the list of thing to credit Harbaugh for, add "inspiring a Zoomer to wear a shirt repping a 45-year-old Canadian folk song."

After Michigan's excruciating road win against Penn State last week, Wolverines receiver Cornelius Johnson explained why he wore an Edmund Fitzgerald t-shirt on the team's trip to State College.

“I know Coach Harbaugh said he used to listen to that song on the way to the stadium when he played,” Johnson told On3. He went on: "It might seem weird because it’s not the most hyped-up song, but everyone’s got their routine. It’s a funny song because it does relate to Michigan and that area, Lake Superior and all that. So, it was cool. Just good lyrics in that song. Just a fighting mentality. We’re the lake."

Hell yeah, buddy. (h/t David Roth at Defector)

Thanks for posting this,…

Thanks for posting this, glad to see *some* women's sports coverage on MGoBlog even if it's just on the board!

As an aside, Mastodons is a cool mascot.

People keep saying this all…

People keep saying this all over the site, that UM must have dirt on the other schools that they're getting ready to unload whenever it suits. But if that's the case, and the other schools are pressuring the B1G into moving ahead with a punishment of Harbaugh, doubling down on the pearl clutching, etc., then how the hell did they think this was going to end? I mean, maybe some of the people involved are that stupid, but you'd have to be really stupid to be throwing stones from inside your glass house, knowing your house was glass and that the guy you were throwing stones at had his own pile ready and waiting.

Am I missing something? Are the other schools involved really that thick, or is this wishful Michigan fan thinking?

I would not call this OT…

I would not call this OT. The potential ramifications - including, obviously, for UM athletics - are huge.

So when are the kids gonna go to Ono's house like they did when it became apparent the Brandon had to go and the only way to make that happen was direct action?

T20 cricket was created when…

T20 cricket was created when cricket powers-that-be realized that to maximize TV viewership, they could condense the game down to two hours by reducing the number of times each team has to bat (to 20 "overs"; think of an over as being six pitches). A classical test match takes literally days to complete, and the older condensed version, One Day International, still takes as much as 7 hours. T20 takes like 2.5 hours.

Cricket is one of the most-watched sports in the world, it makes perfect sense for it to be in the Olympics. Cool that it'll be in.

Squeeeeeeeze.

Squeeeeeeeze.

Also wonder if Woodson ever…

Also wonder if Woodson ever got an unnecessary roughness penalty when the team had just gotten a sack on 3rd and 22, up 10 in the fourth quarter. Kind of a soft call IMO but still, just keep your hands to yourself and don't give the ref a reason. Made completing the comeback so much easier. Oof.

Or like you wear if you're…

Or like you wear if you're trying to give people the impression that you've participated in urban warfare, or that you totally could if you needed to.
