Chose a Point Guard for Michigan Basketball
For your Christmas present, you get to pick a point guard from these two options. They both look pretty good to me. What do you most value in a point guard?
Player A: 31.1 Minutes, 17.6 Points, 42.0% FG, 35.6% 3PT, 6.1 Assist, 1.3 Steals, 2.0 Rebounds, 2.8 Turnovers.
Player B: 31.8 Minutes, 11.4 Points, 51.0% FG, 40.0% 3Pt, 8.8 Assist, 1.0 Steals, 4.3 Rebounds, 3.6 Turnovers.

Looks pretty damn close to me. I’d go player B just because of the higher shooting percentages

I’ll take Jason Kidd in his prime.

Or would you take point guard C:
39.5 mins 28.7ppg 52%fg 42%3pt 88%ft 10.1rb 6.6ast
Actually it’s a trick question. Those were Larry Bird’s stats in 1985. He was a SF.

The stats for Larry Bird in his prime dropped into the NBA in 2019-20: DNP-CD

If player B cuts the turnovers by 2 per game we might get to the Final Four
December 24th, 2019 at 4:42 PM ^
Whichever player that Burke is.
December 24th, 2019 at 4:47 PM ^
Neither. A is Winston, B is Simpson.
December 24th, 2019 at 8:55 PM ^
Cool. I still take Burke as my Option C
December 24th, 2019 at 4:42 PM ^
Player B. You’re getting a more efficient player who’s making his teammates better, playing longer and also rebounding. The steal and turnover stats are basically identically for all intents and purposes
December 24th, 2019 at 6:03 PM ^
He plays about 45 seconds more per game.
That’s not exactly Wilt Chamberlain like stuff you’re talking about here.

You dont know how many chicks he's banging after the games.

Steve Nash.
I may not have read past the thread title.

Magic Johnson.

Player A

Why am I choosing if you already chose?
December 24th, 2019 at 5:25 PM ^
Incomplete. What is the FTA/FTM?
December 24th, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
Whichever one can hit a pull up jumper because our offense is sorely lacking that from the PG position...
But in all honestly I love Zavier. It’s just objectively true his lack of a jumper can be crippling to our offense at times. His turnovers don’t worry me as much. I attribute a lot of that to the new offense. Zavier’s last two years show he’s not turnover prone, and I assume he’ll correct that as the season progresses.

Magic Johnson
your welcome

If you are choosing a point forward, might as well go with Lebron.
If you are choosing a traditional point guard, I'd go with Stockton.

Why are we doing this again
December 24th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
Irrelevant. Statistics do not make a PG. That said, in today's game, given only the two options, I pick "A". The PG position is becoming less and less exclusive/valuable as the ball handling skills, in general, are improving. Today, offensively, every player must be able to hold significant defender attention. Of the 2020 crop whose tape I have seen, my clear winner is Namari Burnett-the kid can score and dish with the best of them...a very, very smart player.

Which one did you chose?
December 24th, 2019 at 9:07 PM ^
First thing that I noticed, but it's Christmas Eve, gave a pass.

Let's revisit this after the games are played on Jan 5th and Feb 8th. In 2018 Simpson played better both games and in 2019 Winston played better both games.
December 24th, 2019 at 6:59 PM ^
Edit: Now that I know the game and who is who...I'll take Winston. He can create his own shot much better. Zavier is not a real 40% 3pt shooter. Cassius is a real 36.5% shooter. But I'd rather have 2nd half senior Derrick Walton than both of them. The ability to rise up and shoot the 3 would be so huge for this team the past couple years. We get a little bit figured out at times with our lack of a point guard who can score more at will and again, rise up for the 3 (not just taking the wide open ones some teams are blatantly letting him shoot).
40% 3pt shooter yes please. 11.4 pts with those FG percentages feels like it could come up a bit with the right offense. But yea they're pretty close, regardless.
December 24th, 2019 at 8:16 PM ^
LMAO! Simpson really his hitting 40% of his 3's. So he IS a real 40% shooter. The offense gets him open looks, that's not a negative.

It pains me to like this post, but...
December 24th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
For the first half I would take Simpson probably
With 4 minutes left in the game I would take Winston every singe time.
December 25th, 2019 at 2:43 AM ^
Winston is better than Simpson
These stats don't tell the whole truth. For example I would way rather have Winston taking a big 3 than Simpson. Winston has also dealt with a terrible loss so his current numbers could be effected by it
Simpsons inability to dribble inside the arc and take a midrange jumper really hurts the offense at times. This season the teams that have been able to block Simpson from driving have beaten us. If he had a jumper they wouldn't be able to slack off and clog the paint
Bring on the downvotes but its silly for people to claim Simpson is better than Winston

Out of those two generic profiles I would choose Cassius Winston.
