Lmao at Rumler falling after being one of the best OL in the UA game - he’s going to have the career of a top 50 recruit
January 16th, 2019 at 12:30 PM ^
I hope you're right. He is supposed to be our next center, correct?
January 16th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
Guard all day.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
He said center himself.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:58 PM ^
He’ll probably compete at both with maybe more chance to play at G until Ruiz leaves and then he’ll take over there.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
I hope he stays at guard. Carpenter's HS coach said he would make an excellent center-is very cerebral. I hope Carpenter is good enough to make this happen.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
If you can play center well you can probably play guard. It’s good to have options and competition at center.
January 16th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
He's playing/practicing at both...but he's a guard right now. But not a "guard all day" like some poster above claims as if he can see the future.
The plan is for him to do what Ruiz did, start at guard and provide real depth with Spanellis. When Ruiz leaves, he's supposed to compete with Carpenter for the starting C spot.
My question is, who's the true backup center next year? We say Vastardis and he could be in a blowout when all 5 guys come in, but I bet Spanellis would come in first if it's just to replace Ruiz because...his helmet came off.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:17 PM ^
Biggest surprise to me is Rumler falling so much, because it sounded like he had a good showing at UA game.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
One thing that stood out with Rumler out is how out of shape he looked. I know he’ll work into it once he gets to campus. Rumler probably had too much gravy over the holidays.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:29 PM ^
Yeah, but was it homemade gravy or that swill you get from a jar?
January 16th, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
Both?
January 16th, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
How about from a packet?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:13 PM ^
neither. it was lady gravy. playa!
January 16th, 2019 at 12:19 PM ^
So 11 recruits in the Rivals 250...not bad!
January 16th, 2019 at 12:40 PM ^
When you look at the top 40 programs that recruit actively - many which are in the South - I think this is an absolutely terrific number of high level recruits!
January 16th, 2019 at 2:07 PM ^
4.4% of your recruits are belong to us.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
Harbaugh got lucky. He can’t really recruit. Theme for MGoBlog Trolls and Idiots 2019.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:20 PM ^
Hinton a 5 star and Hill a 5 star for you star-gazers.
Charbonnet still a 4 star for you "fear of 5 star running back" folks - this means you Brian.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:02 PM ^
I will take Charbonnet as a high 4**** playing virtually every down as a RB and LB in HS every day of the week. I have not seen a better RB tape in this class...the kid is a beast. Great cuts and acceleration for a kid his size. He will think he is on vacation-playing only half the downs.
A dynamic, dynamite player.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
being a star gazer is ok
being a meat gazer is not
that is all
January 16th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
I miss Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer. It used to come on WCMU every Saturday night after The Red Green Show.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:22 PM ^
Gattis - up 245823457345 spots.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
Is that enough for him to get the keys to the offense from Harbaugh!?
January 16th, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
His title is offensive coordinator and Harbaugh said he'd be in control, so yes apparently so.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:24 PM ^
Pretty decent showing for the class overall with 11 guys in the top 250.
For perspective:
- Alabama has 20 committed/signed in the top 250 (monster class)
- Georgia has 13
- Clemson has 12
- PSU has 9
- OSU has 8
- ND has 7
- MSU has 3 (two of which are offensive lineman)
January 16th, 2019 at 12:29 PM ^
Doesn't surprise me that Dobbs dropped out of 5* territory, after what we heard about his performance at the Under Armour game.

January 16th, 2019 at 3:11 PM ^
Jalen Mayfield will have a longer more celebrated career than Dobbs. UofM coaches know what they know.
That is not part of the 2019 theme for MGoBlog Trolls and Idiots.
January 16th, 2019 at 11:22 PM ^
That can be true, but getting Dobbs and getting him 4-5 years of coaching under Warriner doesn't mean he also wouldn't be an All-B1G performer.
Mayfield could be the #1 overall pick and leave as the greatest OT in school history...Dobbs could be 1st team all-conference and a 2nd round pick - meaning he's not as good as Mayfield. I'll take that as my other tackle every day of the week.
Getting Mayfield doesn't soften the blow...watching Dobbs become a huge bust at MSU absolutely would.
January 16th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
Barnett should play WR but if they insist on using him as a CB that would be good for Michigan.
January 16th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
You had me at “Losers: Michigan State.”
January 16th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
I know these are kids but I don’t care for Dobbs. He seems like a punk and there’s just something about him I don’t like. Oh yeah he picked East Lansing over Ann Arbor.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
I got negged for saying he's not Michigan material.
He's not Michigan material.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
I hear he eats gravy from a jar.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
I have no idea if he is a punk or not; he's a high school kid, so if he has acted immaturely in terms of comments, that doesn't concern me.
What *does* concern me, as I've posted a couple times, is he doesn't dominate on the field. He is clearly athletically gifted; but it is shocking to me that Belleville didn't run behind him at key moments during key games, and during a good portion of play, he seemed disengaged.
Maybe the light comes on at MSU (nothing personal against him, but I hope it doesn't), but he has never truly been a 5-star, and I've never been disappointed the staff "missed" on him.
Barnett? That dude is really talented. Maybe he didn't perform well during that all-star week, but I've seen him enough to know he is very athletically gifted and "makes plays." He definitely would have fit at UM, but it wasn't to be.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:42 PM ^
Regardless of their details - they are Spartys now - I hate them already...
January 16th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
Cornelius Johnson also moved up significantly. He wasn't ranked nationally on Rivals before and was a 3 star for them and #69 WR. You can see that if you go to their position breakdown which doesn't update until tomorrow or Friday. This is a big jump for him.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
Yes, I was going to post the same thing. Rivals had an article debating whether Johnson or a TE from Florida did the most to boost their stock, so a big move was expected.
January 16th, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
I'm more of a 247 guy, myself. Can't wait to see their final rankings
January 16th, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
Trente Jones is gonna be a great player for us. Him and Mayfield as RT and LT? Oooo baby.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
Do the 247 composite rankings instantly change/reflect these rivals changes, or does someone at 247 sports actually have to input all of these, then hit some 'update' button?
January 16th, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
He’s got the size and ceiling to be a First round OT.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
You might want to contact the 247 site to get that answer. I can speculate for you if you wish - Yes, no, maybe so.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
Seems like they have changed. You can see the difference if you click on rank history and see if there was any movement. The most recent update is from yesterday/today
January 16th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
i manually type the list into a microsoft excel worksheet. then i take the list and send it to the 247 "report a tip" email address. sometimes i bump all the michigan recruits up 4 spots and figure they wont notice because it is just 4 spots (harbaugh's number).
ive never received a reply but I assume they have built some type of trigger that automatically pulls my excel sheet in and updates their database accordingly. i think they just forgot to automate the thank you email.
It is also possible that they realized that my list was fake and stopped using it because rashan gary was ranked -4 on the list in 2016. I didnt think that one through in my formula.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:19 PM ^
Man, Dobbs mustve really fucked up at the All American game. Dude dropped 70+ spots. Normally people don't drop this far unless they skip camps.
Karlaftis also dropped 50+ spots
January 16th, 2019 at 1:30 PM ^
there's been a lot of scuttlebut even before the game that Dobbs had been overrated with his initial rankings based mainly on his physical abilities and potential. May be a response to his senior season that was capped off with that lackluster performance. As other posters have mentioned, he's a man amongst boys physically but hasn't dominated the way one might expect.
The Karlaftis one is more of a mystery.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
11 players in the Top 250 seems pretty solid. Anyone know how that compares to previous classes?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:08 PM ^
Since 2010 this is the number of top 250 recruits per year compared to Ohio State. Blue is U-M, red is OSU. Source of data is 24/7 composite.
U-M has averaged 8.4 top 250 players per year versus OSU averaging 13.2. In the Harbaugh era, it is 9.0 per year versus 14.0.
