You're fine. Everyone knows…

You're fine. Everyone knows we're not going to be ranked #5 in the preseason polls.

"Michigan Ranked #5" would have been deceptive, if you meant the Big Ten.

"Media Poll/picked to finish 5th" are good indicators this is conference standings. Big Ten always does a media poll and it's "5th" not "#5."

I do this also. DVR the game…

I do this also. DVR the game, go do something productive for at least an hour, then watch the game and ffwd commercials. I catch up to "real time" about midway through the 4th quarter. If it's an important game I just stay off social media and make sure my buddies are live-texting me game updates.

A home and home with Iowa…

A home and home with Iowa State would be cool. Hopefully will run into Clemson and LSU in the post season. Michigan-LSU bowl game might be the most aesthetically pleasing uniform matchup we’ve ever seen, especially if we get to wear our homes.

I hope I don't have to look…

I hope I don't have to look at that all season ... but if the intent is to post a new banner every week similar to the podcast artwork, that could be fun. This week it's Pitbull because it's opening day and we're playing a team we have no history with, but future banners should maybe feature images of iconic plays from past games with the team we're playing that week(?) I either missed or there never was a new banner contest so there's my suggestion.

It's entirely possible that…

It's entirely possible that some users had this banner stored in their mobile browser cache all year, since this Harbaugh banner was previously up. The Charles/Iggy/Teske banner replaced it for a while, but the Harbaugh banner came back a few days ago. The basketball banner may not have ever loaded into your browser ... unless all you "what new banner?" folks just effing with us.

I like this banner and its look/design, but I wouldn't mind focusing on player(s) like the basketball banner did this time. Love the MGOBLOG logo and blue-overlay background.

This ranking is entirely…

This ranking is entirely invalidated by UConn ending up ranked 19th but having more national championships than anyone in that time period. I mean come on.

The Americans. Better than…

The Americans. Better than Breaking Bad (about even as a series, better finale), but I admittedly have only seen sporadic episodes of Six Feet Under and not the finale.

You have to go back and…

You have to go back and count '97 as us being in some sort of "Final" in football (if that year had a CFP, we would have been in the final against Nebraska), so let's call it "the last 25 years:" No school has been champ or runner-up on all four sports that are traditionally the 'major' pro sports. '97 football, '11 hockey, '13 and '18 basketball, '19 baseball. In fact I think it's safe to say that could go back to the 50's or earlier, and not find anyone else whose achieved that feat.

I only see Ohio State and Notre Dame as programs that could ever even think about matching that feat, based on past success. Other Big Ten hockey schools have a chance, obviously, but have not all reached the upper echelons of all four sports. And I'm not sure OSU or ND have really even had a whole lot of CWS-level success in baseball.

I'm Navarre-to-Chesson by…

I'm Navarre-to-Chesson by your chart, but I'm looking for the best QB to wear #6 who could throw to Desmond Howard. Or I could just go with 6/21 representing Ty Wheatley and Desmond and be happy with that.

This segment is a treasure…

This segment is a treasure. Hanlon and Young won't be with us forever, so I just kept thinking about how great it was to hear them reminisce with such clarity about the game, and also ribbing Hanlon about "dating" Debbie Reynolds. Awesome stuff.

While I'm at it, I want to retroactively commend the crew for their "top 20 moments of the era" podcast in the wake of Beilein leaving. The guys were having a blast and it was fun to listen to, and a reminder of just how jam-packed Beilein's years were with awesomeness. The absolute ONLY thing missing was that pinnacle title, otherwise I don't think we fans could have asked for a better decade.

I'd love to see somebody put together a "Big Ten Elite: John Beilein" documentary that spans that whole era of the team. Of course, while we might also like to see one also on 90's football, we wouldn't want to see certain rival teams' elite decades.

I endured it when it first…

I endured it when it first came out on Amazon. Could never watch again, so very painful. My main takeaway was that Harbaugh was totally checked out for some reason, just acted strange and disconnected. I’m sure the Amazon camera crew didn’t like, actually contribute to the loss column or any recruit leanings, but it certainly could not have been helpful, either. The program probably agreed to the show 100% for recruiting purposes and in that regard it was at best a giant dud.

Seems like they brought the…

Seems like they brought the closer in too soon and we bat last. I'm sticking it out til the end.

Hailing WD: How does one…

Hailing WD: How does one acquire a replica jersey of those 1966 tribute home whites? Do you think they'll sell them at some point?

I’m gonna need one of those…

I’m gonna need one of those home white jerseys with the blue piping, asap, replica or no.

Go back in time to when Pitt…

Go back in time to when Pitt, Syracuse and MIzzou were available, and add them to the conference instead of Rutgers and Maryland. And then go get Notre Dame. Full membership, no half-ass ACC bullshit. I’m Kevin Warren, your university sits in the geographical center of my conference, and you are joining it.”

I’ll definitely be at the…

I’ll definitely be at the Big Three MSU, ND and OSU. If Iowa is a night game (or not) will probably do that one too. For the rest of my season tix I try to give or sell them to Michigan fans rather than StubHub, especially folks who haven’t been to the Big House before. That list is dwindling though, I’ve happily gotten a lot of people into the Augusta National of College Football for their first time.

Wut?

So his health problems were…

So his health problems were a botched back surgery that affected his foot. I've read (here) that he's doing better. That linked article makes it sound like he could be ready to go. He's only 51. Fifty one.

I'd put him at the top of the list with Donovan.

I am concerned, as always,…

I am concerned, as always, about which game will be the night game. Iowa? ND? Which one?!?!?

Deandre Hunter will be gone…

Deandre Hunter will be gone to the NBA.

I’d love to be able to flip…

I’d love to be able to flip back and forth between games without landing on a commercial in both places, rather than vice versa. Are these games even on?

This is an amazing draw,…

This is an amazing draw, given that MSU got screwed to the wall with Duke in their bracket. Do we face UNC, Duke, Virginia, Tennessee, or Kentucky on our way to the Final Four???

Nope.

Just two (albeit highly regarded) mid-majors, a team we beat last year (FSU), and/or a team we sort of beat last year but they're Texas Tech instead of A&M.

I don't know, man. I'm going to have a tough time leaving us out of the Final Four in any of my six brackets.

Michigan's bracket based on…

Michigan's bracket based on the way the season was going all along (tracking for a 2 seed), is as good as what we all could have hoped for. We'd get #2 in the West, and they would basically put both Nevada and Gonzaga in our way, them being "western" teams. They're both great programs, but they ain't no UNC/Duke/UVa ACC team or UK/Tennessee SEC team. We're basically staring down Gonzaga, Nevada, Texas Tech and Florida State on our way to the Final Four, and not one of the aforementioned programs. We done lucked out.

Rooting for FSU. Maybe we’ll…

Rooting for FSU. Maybe we’ll get a 1 seed if we win tomorrow.

Browns are tracking to make…

Browns are tracking to make the Super Bowl before the Lions.

The Browns are technically an expansion team, so they along with the Texans and Jaguars can't really be regarded too harshly for not making the Super Bowl yet. The original Browns never made it, but eventually did as the Ravens — leaving the Lions as the only non-90's/2000's-expansion team to never reach the Super Bowl. Saddest franchise ever.

Spielman is a bad example of…

Spielman is a bad example of that, because he is literally the ONLY example of an Ohio State alumnus who Michigan fans admire. I honestly can't think of anyone else, as far as CFB/MBB players who went on to pro Detroit teams or any other teams.

I've been a huge autonomous…

I've been a huge autonomous vehicles skeptic. I just don't see how anyone makes the switch on a large scale. Do driverless cars share the road with human-driven vehicles? For how long? Does there need to be a "zero day" where all human-driven cars are no longer allowed on the roads so we can switch over to all-autonomous? What if I'm running late and need to drive 80 miles per hour to make an important meeting and my autonomous car won't let me?

What I DO like seeing happening is driverless/autonomous technology working its way into human-driven cars to make them safer and more efficient. I think that should be the goal. Like JFK said about the space program in his "we will go to the moon this decade" speech, "...because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills." I think roads worldwide filled with driverless vehicles taking people to work downtown and then going and parking in massive lots in the suburbs waiting to go pick them up is like colonizing the moon and Mars. It's never going to happen, but the technologies we develop exploring the steps to get there will still make the world a better place.

It was moved up because…

It was moved up because Delaney wanted to play the B1G tournament in Madison Square Garden for some reason, even though the Big East owns that tournament site, all the branding and mystique around it, and also (of course) the usual weekend. So Delaney made like a second-class conference and took the earlier week just so he could play in MSG, like Chicago or Indy or anywhere in Big Ten country just aren't good enough. Will be glad when he's gone.

I’ll take a 3 seed in the…

I’ll take a 3 seed in the West behind Gonzaga and Nevada.

Clearly he was in a hurry to beat all the other OP's to the punch to be the first to report this goddamned earth-shattering news.

I think Iowa will be a tough…

I think Iowa will be a tough out in the B1G and NCAA tournament.

Oh, well ... teams that beat us rush the court now. We've arrived.

Eh, from what I saw, it was…

Eh, from what I saw, it was just Iowa's night. Everything was falling, they were banking in 3-pointers, and their and-ones were dropping. They could have beaten Tennessee, Gonzaga or Virginia tonight. On the road, especially Wisconsin and Iowa, it happens. It happened.

I would love to ask him the…

I would love to ask him the question at a press conference:

"When contemplating expansion, did you deliberately pass on Syracuse and Pitt, holding out for the weaker, less-geographically relevant, financially unstable Rutgers and Maryland athletic programs solely for the cable subscribers ... or were you really just caught either sleeping or masturbating while the ACC landed them?"

Imagine Pitt and Syracuse in the B1G East. Syracuse could have at least gotten BTN onto the NYC cable systems, and who cares about the DC area? It's already ACC-A10-Big East territory.

I know Shea and Dylan aren’t as one-in-a-lifetime gifted as Mahomes, but man could our personnel run that Chiefs offense pretty well.

Go through this every…

Go through this every Championship Sunday, and my top pick rarely ends up being the Super Bowl match-up.

Most desired Super Bowl, ranked:

1. Chiefs-Rams: Love Tom Brady but just don't need the Patriots in there again. I like the idea of two new-blood QB's. You don't see that in Super Bowls that often. Marino-Montana, Joe was already a bit of a veteran. Same thing with Rothlisberger-Rodgers in 2010. Can't think of one where BOTH QB's were such young all-pro's. Plus that regular-season game was epic.

(tie) 2. Patriots-Saints: On the other hand, I don't think there's been a matchup like this either. For Elway-Favre in '99, for example, Favre still went on to play quite a few more years. Brady-Brees would also have everyone talking about legendary Big Ten quarterbacks for a couple weeks.

(tie) 2. Chiefs-Saints: On paper, the two best teams and probably the best matchup, dream QB head-to-head aside.

4. Patriots-Rams: See above re: Brady and Patriots, and this would be a rematch, and so was last year's game.

So I'm probably going to be happy with 3 out of 4 of these possibilities.

James Harden travels every…

James Harden travels every fucking time he takes a jump shot. Pushes off, dances in place 3-4 steps, back and shoots. Has the trans-continental hop-step mastered or whatever it's called. If there was ever a need to bring back a version of "Jordan Rules" for Harden, it's now.

I know you all have been concentrating on talking about Michigan and Virginia in this thread, but Rutgers just beat OSU.

Pesky? I hadn’t head that rumor since before Christmas.

There's been something about…

There's been something about good teams losing control of a game this year, and it happened to us twice, but the same thing happened to Alabama v. Clemson, and on a slightly different plane (since the opponent was otherwise pretty bad), OSU vs. Purdue. In all four of these games there's a "tipping point" where the game just gets away from you and nothing goes right. You get forced into a different game plan etc. It happened in our favor this year as well, against Wisconsin with the roughing the snapper penalty. There's a big "swing" ... like the INT and long run-back against Florida. If Shea makes a better throw and that's not picked off or even caught for a touchdown, the score could be 17-13. Instead, after the long run back they go up 20-10, and just like that we go from potentially leading to down two scores. Good teams need to be able to recover, and many do, but we've seen us, Wisconsin, OSU and even Alabama get snowed under by one or two back-breaking swing plays.

I’m really enjoying this.
