Herbstreit favors Michigan over OSU in a blowout
Herbstreit strongly favors Michigan over Ohio State in a week and a half.
LINK: Kirk Herbstreit Surprisingly Thinks Michigan Will Blow Out His Alma Mater
Of course that's what we all want. I think given the last three years, Michigan will leave nothing to chance, and will crush OSU. And yet, with the BPONE, I'll believe it when I see it.

That sound is beautiful to me, but he's ringing alarm bells for Ohio State. Michigan hasn't been palpably better at football than Ohio State since TWO THOUSAND AND THREE. Ring those bells, Kirk, ring those bells. The time has come.

It will be MSU all over. We dominate the first half but go into halftime with a slight lead. The score is super close until about the 4 minute mark of the third where we wear them down and win by 2 scores.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:26 AM ^
Eh. I do see the first half going that way, however the 2012 iteration of The Game tells me Urbz makes the adjustments way better than Mork here and has the talent level to keep it very competitive. We need to punch them in the mouth early and take the crowd (and hopefully the refs, everyone who hates us) out of the game. I see a 1997 situation where we have a few glorious plays (I guess that's like MSU this year) and then let the defense mentally take them down. If we do not score first I see BPONE for 4 hours (i.e. where I was for the 5 hours it took to play MSU this year) until the final whistle.

I live in Cincy and all my buckeye co-workers were so happy Barrrett was gone before the season and they had Haskins, a better passing QB.. Sure, Haskins is the better passer, but that offense is nothing without a legitimate run threat at QB. You see it in their weak run game this year; without a threat at QB, those RBs are nothing special running behind that OL. On 3rd & 2, 4th & 1 type plays they knew they could convert the last 3 years with Barrett.. Without him, they struggle.
That said, I think we should still deploy Bush as a spy on haskins on passing downs since he is a capable runner and Bush should be able to contain him.. Let the rest of our ferocious pass rush get to him and make him make mistakes.

He’s trying to fire up his team! Watch on saturday as he swears his red and gray tie etc:

Keep your Jedi mind tricks to your self, Herbie.
November 16th, 2018 at 1:58 AM ^
With the way this team has played on the road the last few years, I don't see how anybody could possibly think this will be a cake walk. Throw in Urban's record in rivalry games, and there's a reason Vegas will basically have this as a "pick 'em".
I'd be a lot less nervous if this game was in AA.
November 16th, 2018 at 2:00 AM ^
Good thing Herbie moved out of Columbus...
They don't call them Buck Nuts for nothing
November 16th, 2018 at 5:03 AM ^
As others have stated, don't believe this for a second. This is bulletin board material with intent.
November 16th, 2018 at 6:10 AM ^
No way it’s a blowout. It’s in Columbus; they will come out firing. They have athletes; we have some advantages no doubt. I think it will be a tight game ala the last time we were in Columbus, I could see a 28-21 or 28-24 type game.
November 16th, 2018 at 6:12 AM ^
I don't like this.
November 16th, 2018 at 6:17 AM ^
What does BPONE stand for? I know I’ve got it, I just want to be fully aware when my doctor diagnoses me with it.

All that comes to mind when I read this is that famous scene with Frank Pentangeli in Godfather 2
"Your father did business with Hyman Roth, he respected Hyman Roth, but he never trusted Hyman Roth".
November 16th, 2018 at 7:46 AM ^
What many fail to realize is that he wants a one loss OSU team to be in the playoff. If he puffs up Michigan and OSU beats them they deserve to go because they to would have 1 loss and the best victory in the Power 5.
The only reason he cares for UM is to connect the dots to make OSU look better.
This is the context that you have to have for every Buckeye fan with a brain and influence in CFB
November 16th, 2018 at 8:11 AM ^
Not gonna happen. As much as I’d love for us to whup them 42-0, this game is going to be close.
OSU is getting our best game, but we’re getting theirs, too. I just can’t imagine them putting up a sludge fart of a game against us, given Meyer’s track record in rivalry games. Couple that with the fact that this game is as much mental as it is physical. Haven’t beaten these guys in a long time, and haven’t won at their place in an even longer time. A lot of pressure on this team to break that trend.
Not saying this team shouldn’t be confident about its chances, but OSU isn’t going to just let us walk all over them. Score will be something like 24-20.
Who wins? No fucking idea.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:12 AM ^
That's a terrible click bait website and the article reads like it was written by someone for whom English is a secondary language.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:17 AM ^
I think most of us will have raging BPONErs during this game...I believe nothing until 0:00
November 16th, 2018 at 8:34 AM ^
I completely identify with this. I am living in the BPONE. That's where I built a house. Every stinking occurrence of the game I get my hopes up that this will be the year, and then my hopes are crushed. A couple years ago I made a friendly wager with a brother-in-law in the Cleveland area. $1 went to whoever wins the game, and the loser wears the opponent's apparel. We all know what happened. I won't believe Michigan has won until the clock reads 0:00, and Michigan has more points on the board.
Addendum: As much as I believe OSU is our true rival, and I despise MSU, the most traumatic game for me ever in recent years was the 2015 debacle of a game vs. MSU. I was at an event such that I couldn't watch the game, so I was following the score via smart phone. And then, with a few seconds left, I couldn't refresh my phone. Servers had blown up. And when I finally was able to find the score, Michigan had lost. Smh. That game scarred me for life.
November 16th, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
Having it unfold directly in front of you, live, was scarring.
Not to worry now, order has been restored
November 16th, 2018 at 8:23 AM ^
Indiana could maybe give us an idea of how the defense deals with a dink and dunk pass offense.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:26 AM ^
This is just a defense mechanism. They think OSU is going to lose, so they are hoping to have it over quickly instead of losing a close one that takes it to the end. Also, if Michigan wins by more that 20, they can be mad at Michigan for running up the score.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:40 AM ^
I would love for Michigan to obliterate OSU, but to do it the old fashioned way: with the run game obliterating their DL. It would be great to have the 2nd string in the game in the 4th quarter, and still see them score TD's over OSU. If Michigan is up more than 15 points, don't pile on by trying to score with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. (i.e., don't do what Franklin and PSU did.) Just take a knee.
But yeah, punish OSU. I'd love to see our DL inflict great pain and sack Haskins again and again and again. I'd love to see plenty of picks that go for scores. I'd love to see trick plays that work for huge chunks of yardage. I'd love to see DPJ and Black and Collins and Gentry overwhelm their secondary for bombs. I'd love to see Higdon pull a "Biakabatuka" on OSU.
I desperately want Michigan to "take care of business," and to dominate OSU in every phase of the game.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:00 AM ^
Pulling a Biakabatuka. Man, that was so fun...
November 16th, 2018 at 8:32 AM ^
I don’t trust Herbstreit one bit. He’s definitely trying to fire up OSU. Very clever ploy.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:33 AM ^
Take care of business and beat Indiana this weekend.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:42 AM ^
Not to discount Herbstreit's prognostication - I have no issue with either his or Desmond's abilities to wield an impartial take on The Game, or any other game for that matter - but, why should I give a shit if a bunch of OSU fans are riding Herbie because they've got their panties all in bunch? And what is this 12UP site other than a cesspool of clickbate? The writer has a clearly misguided assessment of the OSU-MSU game, which was a classic Big Ten sludge-fart at best, until Sparty gave up an intentional safety and then fumbled in their own end-zone on the next possession and more or less handed the game to OSU. Seriously, there was nothing in that article that offered anything original or insightful, and the writer flat out contradicts one of the embedded tweets he pulls in. Yeesh. They should add a "Lame" button to the rating options on the sidebar. Is Twitter regarded as a primary source for college term papers these days? If so, the end is nigh...

The writer has a clearly misguided assessment of the OSU-MSU game, which was a classic Big Ten sludge-fart at best, until Sparty gave up an intentional safety and then fumbled in their own end-zone on the next possession and more or less handed the game to OSU.
The writer characterized the OSU performance against MSU as a "convincing victory", which suggests to me this person didn't watch the game and is making his assessment based on the final score alone. The tea leaves certainly look to be in our favor this season, but nothing is certain and the last time we blew out OSU by more than 2 TDs in Columbus was 1976, so all this easy victory talk sounds premature.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:48 AM ^
It will be another close, stressful, edge of your seat game, unfortunately. The last two years, we took a sizeable lead, only to blow both games.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:48 AM ^
I don't care what Herbie says, even though he is the most respectable, level-headed person on GameDay. My hope is that we still go into that game +3.5 or whatever, we need to ride our own #DISRESPEKT card through the end of the year.
In the end, we have all seen this game play out before. I haven't fully escaped BPONE, but if we beat Indiana and OSU, then it will be like Bruce finally climbing out of the Pit of Despair in Dark Knight Rises.

Kirk is sandbagging...you know what he really wants to see...he won't see it
November 16th, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
Herbstreit is an analyst as well as an OSU alum. He does a really good job being objective, IMO. Obviously he wants OSU to win the game, but looking at everything he thinks Michigan will win.
You are allowed to be objective with a prediction and still want your alma mater to win. They are not mutually exclusive things
November 16th, 2018 at 9:55 AM ^
Yes he can be objective, and in this case I believe he thinks Michigan will win, but the blowout part is sandbagging
November 16th, 2018 at 9:31 AM ^
In 2013 I watched one of the worst offensive lines in history, and a QB with a broken foot put up 600 total yards against an undefeated 3rd ranked team in the country. I get he has a job to do, but predicting The Game is meaningless.
Win the fucking game
November 16th, 2018 at 10:39 AM ^
Fucking Hoke and Borges... Where the hell was that offensive philosophy the rest of the year? That game was all Rich Rod offense with a Rich Rod QB playing Rich Rod offense. And it worked like a charm. Most of the rest of the year? We had a Rich Rod QB standing in the pocket trying to be Tom Brady in a Borges offense.
Fuck those two guys...
November 16th, 2018 at 9:39 AM ^
Just get there healthy, and the game plan will work this time. No way the B1G squelches their one hope with ref chicanery this time.
Step on the gas baby!
November 16th, 2018 at 9:46 AM ^
I've always thought Herbie was a good analyst as with Joey Galloway. They are incredibly objective towards OSU and Im pretty sure the whole OSU fanbase hates them because of it.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^
Who is this Herb Kirkstreit you speak of?
November 16th, 2018 at 9:50 AM ^
Raging BPONE going on here. So bad that I was rooting for MSU to beat OSU, not because it would effectively lock up a trip to Indy, but because it would appease the tinfoil hat wearing side of my brain. Coupled with all the on-field advantages we're pretty sure we have (hnnngg), it couldn't hurt to go to Columbus being the B1G's only ticket to the playoff. I saw 2016. I saw a 2OT game where the home team collected 2 penalties for 6 yards. I don't want to see that shit again in 2018.
Oh, BPONE, you miserable SOB.
November 16th, 2018 at 10:12 AM ^
If he's right then he looks intelligent. If he's wrong his team wins. Can't go wrong. Smart take.
November 16th, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
Herbstreit trying to "fire up the troops" so to speak. Herbstreit does this every time UM looks like a real threat to defeat OSU.
