Do we get to vacate the Bloomin Onion Bowl???!?
|07/25/2018 - 11:43am||You wonder if the same MO…||
You wonder if the same MO went into Ronnie Bell's recruitment. That dude was super productive in high level Missouri football. Harbaugh put a high percentage of lower ranked guys into the NFL at Stanford. Aside from our bad fan feels from last year, it's possible that this staff is at the leading edge of talent identification. We've seen more evidence of that in some of our 2019 guys getting big rating bumps.

So we just have a 5 m.o., 6 y.o., and 8 y.o. and a house and jobs. So I'm usually asking how to make time slow down.

That's waygu grade snark. Nice.
|06/29/2018 - 9:42am||It's not my preference to…||
It's not my preference to come here for policy and/or politics discussion.
I still listened to the podcast.
I like listening to smart people discuss important topics.
During some of that discussion I found myself nodding along. During other points, I was less agreeable.
I have more information than I did yesterday and have gone on with my life.
Can the offseason die now?
|06/26/2018 - 4:10pm||Offers from Stanford,…||
Offers from Stanford, Clemson, and the Ivy League? Sign 'em up.
|06/26/2018 - 8:47am||I agree. A guy's offer list…||
I agree. A guy's offer list-- and the recency of those offers-- is telling when it comes to a recruit. Only problem with using offers is that distinctions aren't made between 'committable' offers and non-committable offers.
|06/25/2018 - 1:25pm||May be hype but two guys…||
May be hype but two guys with very little recruiting profile being in the mix so early in their careers on such a talented defense suggests a higher ceiling than their low 3 star/2 star ratings (while being recruited-- both got a bit of a bump upon committing if i recall).
|06/25/2018 - 1:10pm||His last few recent offers:
His last few recent offers:
With big-time programs adding more and more analysts, scouts, and related positions and the recruiting services devouring themselves I think we're reaching a tipping point where schools' collective nets are just wider (and better) than the services.
I mean, Sean McKeon, Kwity Paye, and Josh Uche all say hello!

So...should our passing game actually produce a heisman finalist, add in our defense and you're looking at a playoff team easily. Phil Steele is the most accurate analyst out there. Probably.
|06/13/2018 - 12:29pm||Leaning 'old' for primarily…||
Leaning 'old' for primarily two reasons:
1) In lengthy threads there's entirely too much whitespace. The thin border lines don't provide enough structure to my eyes when reading comments.
2) On a desktop, the top stories take up way too much space. When Couch decommitted, it was latest story but you had to scroll down quite a ways just to reveal the headline. Could they bump the diaries down and arrange the stories vertically? Or at least make them smaller? Also lightening the images of the top stories on cursor hover would be a nice touch.
I appreciate the effort overall and will continue to enjoy free stuff.
|04/17/2018 - 1:26pm||So more pop ups?||
Doesn't this just incentivize more pop up kicks, only at the 10-20 yard line instead of the 0-10? In other words, the returners will be closer to the coverage teams who are running full tilt towards them hoping to incite a dropped fair catch or cream the guy if he tries to run.
Making kickoffs more like punts, except without all those pesky return team guys at the LOS to deal with, seems like a dumb way to make the game safer.
|04/02/2018 - 9:48am||Texas Tech||
Can anybody summarize the Texas Tech game who watched it? Nova scored 71 on 19 made FGs (and only 4 made threes). Yea, the FTA margin was big but it didn't get out of hand until late. Nova had 7 assists against 12 turnovers. Tech's defense is just behind us on torvik. On the good side: all powerful Nova is capable of playing like garbage against a good defense. On the bad side: yea, they still won.
|03/30/2018 - 2:12pm||Sure||
The premise of your post was that this sort of sentiment comes about every time a new S & C coach is hired. My point is that literally the last time, and only other time under Harbaugh, that UM football hired a S & C coach there were groans that he didn't get the top guy and settled for Tolbert.
|03/30/2018 - 10:56am||Not really||
Plenty of people were disappointed that Harbaugh didn't get the Stanford guy, instead landing on Tolbert.
|03/29/2018 - 5:35pm||Geyser Point||
I'd hit Geyser Point at the Wilderness Lodge. Open air bar facing Bay Lake. Only a quick boat ride to the Magic Kingdom to meet back up with the fam.
|03/27/2018 - 11:35am||uhh||
The big payoff would come on Monday. Another payoff came a few weeks ago in NYC. The real question is which All Americans want those same payoffs, not which All American IS the payoff.
|03/21/2018 - 3:11pm||Could be||
I wish I could remember which broadcast it was leading up to the Tournament but it was reported that Mo Wagner had a head cold while in Wichita so maybe a few guys were dealing with something. Not enough to keep a player out of game but it could be enough to stop someone from playing their best.
|03/20/2018 - 11:34am||Night games||
On Harbaugh's podcast today he talked about the struggles his team had with night games last year. It came up in the context of UMBB playing late at night. Harbaugh quipped that they really ought to be asking Beilein about how to keep the team prepared for late games. Seems reasonable that the 7pm start is to help simulate a gameday with a late kick. Practice, they doing this for practice man.
|03/13/2018 - 1:41pm||And?||
You can still count huge stacks of money with bloody stumps. Seen it in a movie once. Probably.
|02/15/2018 - 10:57am||McElwain Offenses: Just the Stats||
Once the Urban Meyer was flushed out of Florida, Muschamp's last two offenses were 100th and 74th in S&P+. McElwain's two complete seasons were 73 and 88.
At Colorado State, they were 112 and 88th in S&P+ the two years before McElwain. His three years they went from 111 to 74 to 33. CSU was 66th the year after he left.
At Alabama, Saban had his best offenses in 3 of the 4 years he had with McElwain. In McElwain's first year, Saban's second, the offense went from 71st to 15th. The three seasons following, McElwain coordinated offenses never finished worse than 6th in Offensive S&P+.
|02/13/2018 - 2:11pm||CONTENT||
So Maize and Brew isn't terrible anymore in the recruiting department. I don't care enough to know whether it's new staff or if they're just better at regurgitating others' work but it's been much improved. Their X and Os may very well still be lacking but recruiting is on the upswing over there.
While we're spoiled here with free content, "more is more" as Harbaugh would say.
|02/13/2018 - 12:04pm||Recruit breakdown||
I loved Harbaugh's breakdown of the recruiting class. He seems quite aware of how the rankings work and is more than comfortable with the guys they signed.
|02/08/2018 - 3:26pm||Here||
Be a power school from the southeast or Ohio. That is how you win at recruiting.
|02/08/2018 - 10:58am||3*||
Minor quibble: 3 NFC championship game appearances in 4 years for a team that sucked before he got there and sucks again since he left.
|02/08/2018 - 10:17am||What's that quote scribbled on Harbaugh's whiteboard?||
Something like, do everything right and you don't have to worry about FOIA? If the MSU AD's big three for the last decade plus had handled all of these past allegations properly, Dantonio wouldn't have to consider sound legal strategy (avoiding questions) when finalizing a friggin recruiting class. But how dare ESPN?! Right Spartans?
|02/08/2018 - 9:57am||Interesting recruit||
There's an Allen Trieu article from Detnews from around his commitment that has a lot of good quotes from his High School coach. A very unusual recruitment to say the least. It's going to be interesting to compare him against Ohio State's WR duo from Missouri; one a high four star (injured his senior year), the other a high three star. Bell outproduced just about everyone in the state at all levels, which Harbaugh highlighted yesterday. All three play in Division 6-- which I believe is the highest level of Missouri HS football.
While perusing Max Preps and the Missouri HS football coach's page, I was reminded that Hassan Haskins was selected by the coaches as the offensive player of the year in D6 in MO. .
|02/07/2018 - 10:59am||Meh||
We got 99 problems and Schiano ain't one.
|01/11/2018 - 4:06pm||Not always wrong||
I mean, they did go 2-9 last year (sorry, Furman doesn't count).
|12/11/2017 - 12:16pm||Running since August||
Damn, didn't realize it's been nearly 4 months since Harbaugh posted video of Newsome running again. All the best to Grant!
|12/11/2017 - 9:41am||Ugh||
"JK Dobbins gave them problems.." Dude had 60 yards on 13 carries until their garbage time drive. So they preview the wrong damn team and their analysis consists of a quick glance at the box score. Dynamite job.
|12/05/2017 - 12:00pm||Word||
On the lowside he's a solid contributor and could improve some with another year under Frey. Seems like you'd want to have him around as an option if at all possible.
|12/04/2017 - 4:08pm||Podcast||
Harbaugh and his dad had a funny story on their podcast about how Jim did something in little league baseball that sort of showed up the other team a little bit. Jack warned Jim about a bigger, better kid is going to come along and whip your butt, etc. Jim replied, "I'm that kid Dad."
Jack couldn't really argue much as the years went on.
|12/04/2017 - 3:37pm||"Want"||
Yes, they 'wanted' it so much more in 2015 they trailed the entire game until the last play.
They wanted it even MORE in 2016 and fell in a 30-10 hole. Dignity lifted them part of the way out of that hole but not quite.
|12/04/2017 - 12:55pm||vs Auburn||
I think he had 50+ attempts against Auburn too so he was dropping back a ton to generate those yards.
|12/04/2017 - 12:44pm||Agreed||
WSU is at least ranked and, if they were passed over as they say, MSU had better take care of business then against their unworthy foe.
Last time MSU faced a Mike Leach team they got lit up for about 600 yards of total offense.
South Carolina is entirely uniteresting and the game is in a crappy timeslot to boot. Wonder if they'll trade?
|12/01/2017 - 10:15am||[shudder]||
Hadn't seen the interception in GIF form yet. Really nice to see it loop over and over and over. Oh, hello nausea!
|11/29/2017 - 12:05pm||ESPN||
The problem with ESPN is that the vast majority of their content is crap that's played on mute on TVs hanging in lobbies, lounges, and bars. If it's not a game, programming attached to a game/game day, or 30 for 30 type stuff, then who really watches it? Turn off all the talking heads and just broadcast the SMPTE color bars the rest of the time. Sponsors airing ads on ESPN during the day will continue to flush that money down the toilet and ESPN can save some bucks on 'talent' and production.
You're welcome Disney for the free consulting.
|11/28/2017 - 3:35pm||Woke||
I like to think I'm fairly woke. I just happen to think that a coach returning his program to a level near the one he himself established isn't "Coach of the Year" worthy. Turning the previous coach's unmitigated disaster into a competent B1G team in just one year is more deserving IMO.
|11/28/2017 - 2:19pm||Coach of the Year||
I don't get the Dantonio stuff this particular year. You go 3-9 that deep into your tenure, you don't get to wash your hands of it because you beat Penn State and Michigan. You got smoked twice and easily could have been 7-5 or worse.
Brohm all the way here.
|11/28/2017 - 1:15pm||This past April||
Drove overnight this past April from SE Michigan to visit Mickey Mouse in a new Ford Explorer with the wife and 2 kids (4 and 6). Was sort of a last minute trip as we had park passes that were expiring. Airfare was laughable at that point so we piled in the Explorer and hit the road at about 5 pm on a Friday and pulled into our resort around 10:30-11 the next morning. The kids slept about 7 hours, the wife less than that, me only about 30 minutes. After an early afternoon poolside snooze I was ready to booze around Epcot that evening.
You really get to know the car you're driving when you're going long distances and the Explorer was a champ. Comfortable, great night-time visibility-- particularly to the sides, plenty of space with the 2nd row bucket seats, and managed 23.5 mpg-- keeping the speed between 65 and 78 and with the car loaded to the top.
To make things MGoRelevant, this was most of Michigan's spring break week so I-75 south was filled with "M" plates. Shared more than a few Go Blue's along the way, even running into the same M family a few times hundreds of miles apart on the road and at the first damn McDonalds you hit when you cross into Florida.
|11/28/2017 - 12:05pm||I'm in||
It should be required viewing for the UNACCEPTABLEs in Michigan fandom as it will no doubt humanize all the little things that work for and against these kids week in and week out.
Personally, I find it telling that Harbaugh agreed to it this year with an extremely young squad. It shows a lot of confidence in your program, IMO.
|11/27/2017 - 12:46pm||LOL!!!||
You're insa.. <sees multiple coaches get on new teams' boosters' private jets hours after season ends so he can start recruiting at his next $5 million job, leaving his old team to be coached by some other dude in the bowl-- which the departing coach got a $100,000 bonus for reaching>. Oh. Maybe they could let that rule slide.
|11/27/2017 - 12:41pm||I agree but||
Saturday happened. OL was pretty much fine. There were open dudes all over the place.
|11/27/2017 - 12:38pm||Next year||
Too short and too tall for NFL. Hair game needs work.
|11/27/2017 - 10:16am||Weak||
Up to and including Harbaugh's first year, after the OSU game I'd think to myself, I want no part of watching another UM/OSU game for a while. Even the close games we'd have against them felt like they'd be impossible to reproduce. We took the Ls these last two years but is anyone really afraid of playing OSU anymore? There's no 'gap'. There's just the slimmest of margins, individual plays here or there. Just hitting a few more open passes on Saturday and M wins comfortably-- with the youngest team in FBS.
So damn the idea of us hoping to just be a pain in their ass. I'd say it's been quite the opposite of late.
|11/19/2017 - 12:41pm||The Floor||
We are here guys. The floor of a Michigan team under Jim Harbaugh. 8 wins, a good shot at 9, and a puncher's chance at 10. This crystallized for me when a relative asked me a dinner if I enjoyed the game. I sort of did. Our beaten up, youngest team in football played right there with a senior laden "power" in their house. Never will a Harbaugh team be younger, never will a Harbaugh team not have more than a handful of 4th and 5th year players.
Next week they may as well roll senior day stuff in with the coin toss as nobody would blink at the scholarship recruited guys with expiring eligibility walking out to midfield to greet the Buckeye captains. Hurst, Cole, Ways, McCray, Kugler, Hill, Poggi, and thin friggin air.
|11/17/2017 - 8:29am||Translation||
|11/16/2017 - 4:09pm||Metellus||
I've noticed some odd moments like that from Metellus mid-play. A little stutter step or moment of hesitation when, from the comfort of my couch, there appears to be a play to be made right in front of him (thinking of one against Penn State along the sideline). Could just be a guy for who the game hasn't entirely slowed down yet and he's thinking too much out there instead of just doing or reacting.
That said, a hell of a player overall despite being another whodat recruit.
