Hoping for Josh Uche. Lot of scary 3rd downs for opposing QBs against our DL, Devin Bush.. Adding a speedy, big linebacker rushing the QB too will be much fun.

One of my buddies played him in beer pong at a house party and acted like he had no idea who he was and it really got under his skin.

05/09/2018 - 2:36pm Might not have been a dead

Might not have been a dead season if we had better quarterback play. MSU/OSU are easy W's with better QB play. I'd sacrifice a couple reps for two freshmen with 2-4 years ahead of them for those wins.

05/09/2018 - 10:55am I'm more surprised by Peters

I'm more surprised by Peters being 17 more pounds than Shea. Shea looks like a very solidly built individual wheras Peters was rail thin last year.

What's the worst that could've happened? I'd have taken any extra QB we could get last year, especially one who was with Harbaugh for 2 years.

He was gifted the regular season this year with that schedule. And it showed in the B1G tourney and the big dance. The game has passed him by and he hasn't kept up regardless of how many McDonalds All-Americans he signs.

04/22/2018 - 5:11pm Boy, don't expect to learn

Boy, don't expect to learn much from watching an interview with Pep. Everyone's taking equal reps. Everyone can make all the throws. Guy doesn't give a shred of useful info. Not complaining, just impressed.

If he's 8 I'm very impressed he somehow joined the blog from the womb.

04/17/2018 - 11:22am I think he recruits very

I think he recruits very well, but let's make it clear that we NEVER beat the "blue blood" programs for a star (and given our player development, I'm perfectly OK going for 3-4 year players). And in basketball where 1 player can make a huge difference, it's impressive we've racked up so many wins without the 1-and-done's. While other teams have fallen flat on their face with their 5 stars and McDonald's All Americans (Looking at you, Izzo).

Greasy, but messy... SEC seems to have a lot of coaches effective at avoiding the messy part. No doubt he'll find his fit somewhere though.

04/16/2018 - 9:50pm I'm only 24 but am pretty

I'm only 24 but am pretty confident Beilein is and will be my favorite Michigan coach of any sport in my lifetime. I love Harbaugh but I can't think of any coach who's done more with less hyped recruits than Beilein. And most importantly, he shows such charisma and upstanding values that are so rare in today's college sports.

You must be a Packers fan if you think watching the '08 Lions would be fun!

04/14/2018 - 8:02pm Johns

I'm taking Johns for a few reasons. One, Matthews & Livers are don't have clear backups at this time, and having Johns able to step into both spots should give him a lot of minutes. He's not going to have the offensive impact as Iggy (and possibly Nunez/Dejulius too), but as we saw last season defense can take a team very deep into the tourney. I think he'll be able to help us on that end of the floor and be an effective slasher on the other end.

I absolutely love this incoming class though. I firmly believe they will challenge the McGary/Stauskus/GRIII/Levert/Spike class as the best class Beilein brought in at Michigan, and that would be one hell of an accomplishment.

04/14/2018 - 7:59pm Very true on Robinson, but

Very true on Robinson, but keep in mind he was a Senior.. Any freshman coming into Beilein's system is going to have a STEEP learning curve on both the offensive and defensive end. I don't expect Iggy to be a very good defender initially; I think his offense will get him some solid minutes and he'll be a contributor next year. But his sophomore year once the game slows down for him, I think that's really when we'll see him blossom. But I am just so excited to have a weapon like him on our team. LOVE how Beilein finds some fantastic non-US players.

04/14/2018 - 5:04pm Agree here

Not that Harbaugh would show much in a spring game anyway, but I’m sure he doesn’t mind keeping this new team completely away from opponent’s tape.

04/09/2018 - 4:31pm End of Debate

Take the Australian's word for it.

04/08/2018 - 11:40pm I have never, and will never,

I have never, and will never, love having a man coach our team as much as Don Brown. After watching this whole series, I can't see how any recruit would want to play for a guy as much as him. I'm 5'10" with a dad bod and he made me want to get up and hit someone. I LOVE DON BROWN!!!

04/03/2018 - 12:12pm Good Point

I'd agree with that assessment. Hopefully we won't have to be so reliant on individual players like we were at times this year w/ Rahkman, Moe, and something Matthews.. Spreading out the minutes would be a good solution and I think next year we'll have even better talent coming off the bench to give our starters a breather.

Edit: just want to clarify, i mean "relying on individual players" at times to generate most of our offense (e.g. Wagner vs. Loyola). This team was one of the best "teams" that truly played together, an effect cleary seen in our defense.

04/03/2018 - 9:52am Can't be serious

Beilein has started & given huge minutes to freshmen throughout his entire career, and many played a hell of a lot more than Poole. How about Stauskus McGary GR3 Hardaway Irvin Dawkins... We've been more experienced of late buy Beilein has gotten a ton out of freshmen in his Michigan career.

Seriously, such a better tourney without that jackass.

04/01/2018 - 3:45pm I think Loyola was pretty

I think Loyola was pretty handsy on defense in general, probably a big factor in our Offense's struggles. But I'd much rather have the game called like last night than the Houston game where any contact was called. If the refs have a quick whistle for little touches against Nova that's a huge disadvantage for us.

04/01/2018 - 2:18pm Wow

This is very impressive for a kid so young! Love the editing & his timing of music to shots going in.

04/01/2018 - 1:23pm Good point on Poole

I felt like when he entered the game the team's mindset just became more aggressive, especially on the offensive end. His drive to the basket right upon entering the game felt like a jolt when I was watching, and then after Robinson hit that three right after I really started feeling like we were going to pull this one out. Those were a tense first 10 minutes of the second half...

03/31/2018 - 4:48pm If we can't find a RB to do that

I'm 100% OK with Ben Mason.

Can someone just make a "I Love John Beilein" shirt?

03/29/2018 - 1:28pm Tough to see him as a good

Tough to see him as a good fit in today's NBA. Fouls a ton, only offense is in the low post, poor defense against bigs with skill (e.g. Wagner). Would've been excellent a decade or 2 ago, but not so much anymore.. kind of like his head coach.

03/27/2018 - 5:46pm Holy High & Mighty!

These guys talk about Michigan's regular season conference performance like it's the Missouri Valley and they're the Power 5 team. Not to mention "winning the big ten tourney seems to go a long way with the committee." Clearly he doesn't remember when we got burned with a 7 seed last year.

I hope we run these little shits out of the gym.

03/26/2018 - 11:11pm My thoughts

Defense: Could be the best since... ever? I was born in '93, so while I've seen plenty of videos of the '97 championship squad I probably can't fully appreciate their dominance. But given what our D did last year, we have 9 starters coming back from an incredibly dominating squad. Gary going into his (likely) draft year plus Winovich sounds like terror for opposing QBs. Nobody will be able to replace Hurst, but I think an extra year of experience from our other DL guys could offset that quite a bit. Year 3 Devin Bush is a scary thought, and while McCray was solid I think we have better athletes coming in to fill his shoes. Plus add another year for Hill/Long/Watson/Ambry and our secondary looks like one of the toughest in the country.

Offense: Going to break down by position groups...

QB: Can't be worse. I'm fully on the Shea bandwagon, but I'm being cautious with my expectations. He ran a very simple, shotgun-oriented offense at Ole Miss and wasn't always the most accurate passer. But I think his mobility & improvisation will be a welcome addition to our shaky OL, and I believe in Harbaugh to help him improve his passing too.

RBs: Love the Higdon/Evans 1-2 punch. My only ask - Get Evans the ball more in the passing game!!!

WRs: With a year under DPJ/Black/Collins/Martin's collective belts, I think we see a big step up here, also being helped by more focused coaching. Haven't given up on Crawford either, but we've got some freaky athletes pushing for his minutes.

TEs: Pretty solid here with McKeon/Gentry/Eubanks.

OL: Probably the position group that will decide if this is a strong 9-3/10-2 squad, or championship caliber. I think moving from Drevno/Frey to one single OL coach in Warriner should help, but those question marks at Tackle loom.. I think we'll have an extremely solid (albeit young) interior. Just need to find 2 guys who can get Shea 3-4 seconds to get the ball out. Again, I think Shea's mobility at QB only helps, but he can't be running for his life all the time.

My last thought, I think this could actually be a year where we see more 3 or 4 wide sets. It wasn't feasible last year with our OL & QB issues. I think Shea's a good fit especially with his spread experience then let defenses figure out how to check DPJ/Black/Collins on the outside, Martin/Perry in the slot, Gentry/Eubanks at the TE spot and Evans out of the backfield.

03/26/2018 - 10:46pm I too am excited for Kurt

I too am excited for Kurt Taylor, but I think he's a year away from really making a noticeable impact. I'd rather have his carries go to Higdon while he have him for another year.

03/26/2018 - 10:44pm Your last point

Agree with you, and I really think he will. Last year, coaching our (extremely young/raw) WRs was... Pep Hamilton? While simultaneously having to get 3 QBs ready to go throughout the season? I think the increased focus on WR coaching will pay enormous dividends this year, coupling the year of experience Freshman WRs need to Not Suck. And woah boy does McElwain have a lot to work with our loaded core. Very excited for that position group.

03/26/2018 - 9:56pm So happy for him

He really seems to have found his game again with the Knicks. A lot of players in his position after the first couple years might have lost hope, but he kept grinding after being traded and sent to the G league. All credit to him as he’s earned his starting role, and so cool to see him and Timmy being key players for the Knicks.

03/26/2018 - 10:28am I think we win pretty comfortably.

Only way I see a loss is if we have a terrible shooting night while Loyola manages +50% from three. We should have a huge advantage in the turnover department, and it looks like rebounding should strongly favor us as well. This is looking like a matchup where Michigan should have an additional 10-15 possessions over Loyola.

03/25/2018 - 6:13pm Just be happy your team

Just be happy your team survived their first game. Good accomplishment for your squad.

Got a feeling it won’t be Virginia this year...

03/23/2018 - 8:53pm I'm with you here.

Yeah any underclassman safety is going to have their tough moments.. But he's got a ton of in-game experience vs. the other guys which I value quite a bit as safety's the last line of defense.

03/23/2018 - 8:23pm Spot on

Quote from and A&M player from Ace's recap: "It was kind of hard to see because I was just wondering when they were going to miss."

03/23/2018 - 8:15pm IMO Houston is better than

IMO Houston is better than any of the teams FSU has beaten. The way  Houston was playing in the last ~10 games leading up to the M game they were a top 10 team in the country. And as mentioned by posters above, FSU got pretty fortunate with Mizzou being w/o their leading scorer & Gonzaga being without a sniper from 3 (clearly a huge player to have considering FSU's length inside the arc). FSU's a good team, but not the best team we've faced. And they're a hell of a lot more similar to A&M than Houston.

03/23/2018 - 7:14pm *Tournament Over

Not a team in the country that could've beat us last night.
