MSU player saves teenager's life

Submitted by Ali G Bomaye on

MSU football player Micajah Reynolds helped save a teenager's life last week after the teenager was shot during a robbery.

"Nobody else was around and he was bleeding pretty badly," Reynolds said. "I whipped my car around in the middle of the street and jumped out and ran over to him and helped him out. I put pressure on his wounds and stuff. He had been shot in the head. I've still got my shirt and all my clothes over at the house that are completely drenched in his blood and stuff. Thank God he made it."

It's not sports-related, and it doesn't involve a Michigan player or alum, so I figured there might be enough degrees of separation to warrant the "OT" label.  Anyway, I figured it was a less grievous sin to label something OT that might not be than to post something that might be OT without labeling it.

Regardless, I think people are getting two worked up about two letters when it's apparent from the headline exactly what this is about (which is the case with almost every OT/non-OT debate).

But I'm going to be taking some OT tags off in the next week or two, starting here. Not that I particularly care, but last night is like the fifth time I've heard Brian say something about it and I feel like a slacker if I'm not doing anything about a small pet peeve he's repeatedly mentioned.

that I probably won't be doing [Mod edit:...]'s to those posts because it's not worth the time for anyone. If someone really wants to know why an OT tag was removed, the mod sticky is an acceptable place to ask/comment if you absolutely feel the need.

the story is not whether or not this is OT it is about the MSU player who saved a life.  Good for said MSU player.  It is 2:00 PM right now.  I will cease hating said MSU player until 2:05 PM out of respect..

...not OT. I'm assuming Brian is Sad Panda b/c you and the OP just don't get it.

BTW: Definitely a cool story. I especially liked what Reynolds said about how life is delicate. Sobering lesson for him.

Stopping to help a gunshot victim can be ballsy, as the shooter could still be on site and volatile. it's a testament to Reynold's character that his instinctive reaction was to throw caution to the winds and help out.

I'm cynical of stories about an athlete or celebrity "saving someone's life," because it's often just an act of kindess with an oversized dose of PR, but this sounds like the real deal.  I hope I'd react the same way in that situation.  Well done!

Way to go Micajah!  It's easy to forget some these guys are capable of being so heroic due the the caricature in our minds that we've manufactured about members of a rival team.  Just takes something like this to slap me right back to reality and realize some of these guys are absolutely incredible human beings!

OT/Not OT : STFU you're all ridiculous.

Until the board has a USEFUL function for OT - it does nothing to even have it there. Noone should be lambasted for including or not including it, right or wrong. A good thread title tells people what it is, and they can make the decision whether to click on it or not. If a decidedly OT post is deemed to not be thread worthy by mods during football season, then they will delete it so it doesn't clutter the board. I HATE clicking on topics and having to comb through posts about people arguing whether it's OT or not - who gives a f*#(! ?!?!?!? /end rant

Wonderful to see an act of bravery and quick-thinking, regardless of whether from an athlete or anyone else.

I have to admit, the title reminded me of an old joke, apropos to nothing.

Did you know that Frank Sinatra once saved Joey Bishop's life with just three words? "That's enough, boys."

I don't have anything to add that isn't already up, but huge credit to this young man. It's still possibly a very dangerous situation at the point where he stepped in, and he deserves all the credit in the world for that selflessness.

This is the right thing to do, will this be as big a story as some kid getting drunk and missing a stupid day at a camp or some drunk redneck spewing hate?  I am sure it won't but this is what a stand up person does, helps someone who needs it.  Spartan or not this is a good person at least this one time.  If the first thing that comes to mind when you read this story is whether it is on topic or not you are a tool and need to find a better pair of reality glasses.
