It’s the only day I love to wear green. My great great grandparents left Ireland to come to America via Virginia, then Indiana, then settled in Michigan. Erin go bragh!
I love Beilein, and maybe if he was a stopgap, idk. He’s 71 is that a factor? Or could he be brought on in a prominent but maybe not head coach role? So many questions.
Begs the question if Warde watched any of the games. Getting blown out almost every second half is “not backing off” the effort? And this is year 5? What a disaster.
While I agree Harbaugh was probably gone regardless, it would've been better to see Michigan make an all-out effort to retain him. Instead, Warde came across as dragging his feet on an extension.
I really don't know who looks at someone who has done worse year-over-year, including losing by 30 to Rutgers en route to setting a school record number of losses and thinks "this is our guy!".
And that's not even touching assaulting another coach, Sanderson's resignation, nepotism, and general dysfunction and disarray.
Was it difficult to install? I was considering getting it for my parents' house because they are out in the boonies as well and their current internet options are atrocious.
The only primary concern I have right now is the men's basketball program. It has gotten worse YoY, and Howard can't seem to want or be able to change his recruiting strategy to get guys in that will clear admissions, among various other problems (culture issues, his temper, etc.).
Hockey just came off of a Big Ten tournament title and Frozen Four appearance. Nothing to panic about at all here. MSU is getting back to being good at hockey, which is how they used to be, nothing crazy.
Women's basketball is about the best it's ever been at UM; not panic-worthy yet here, IMO.
Now that Harbaugh is gone, I'm sure things are rosier than ever.
But also an obligatory fuck Petitti for suspending Harbaugh while he was en route to the most consequential game of the season (at that point) on a court holiday to kneecap Michigan's options to respond.
I almost never bet on Michigan games either way, but I was really close to betting on Illinois to cover tonight. Would've won if I had. What a sorry state this basketball program is in. I understand some of the challenges (admissions, a lack of commitment to NIL, etc.), but there is no reason for Michigan to be dead last in the Big Ten. Middle of the pack, maybe, but dead last? This is absurd.
I am a 6. I don’t really care how they do. I care much less about the NFL in general, and only really got into the Lions this year because they were good.
I wasn't a Michigan fan then, so no, but even so, 10-22 in 2008 set the school record for number of losses. Michigan is 8-15 and only favored (by 1 pt) in one game the rest of the year by Torvik. The projected record is 10-21. That is a historically bad season by Michigan standards, which is what I meant, not necessarily over several years - though bball has been trending down every year Howard has been the head coach.
There is something to be said about winning a conference-record number of conference championships across all sports, I agree, but your most visible sports are in flux (football) and historically bad (basketball). Whether it's fair or not, these carry far more weight than most other sports.
People blame Warde for Harbaugh leaving, which I don't think is entirely fair, and that's probably why the X poll is ~93% no extension to 7% extension.
My major concern is that Warde has shown he will not modernize the athletic department with the changing college athletics landscape. That, to me, is far more alarming.
Michigan just won the national championship with the "least talented" roster of the CFP era. That will be exceedingly difficult to do again without top-tier coaching. You have to get some 5 stars on your roster if you want to consistently win titles.
Yes, identifying cultures fits and coaching up these young men are important, but if we want to sniff a national championship again then we're likely going to have to change our approach, or be relegated to the middle of the pack in the new Big Ten.
I am not surprised, though I find myself disappointed and frustrated at this prospect. It is reasonable to expect the outgoing coach to take much of his staff with him, especially if it is an "upgrade" (college to NFL).
If it comes out that Warde was the reason Harbaugh actually left, he should become persona non grata in Ann Arbor. If Moore doesn't work out, he could be responsible for imploding football and basketball. A lot of (hopefully terribly incorrect) speculation there, I know.
The first thing that came into mind immediately was the "Let's Go Zak" cheers after he went down with his injury against Ohio State. At that moment, it felt like the stadium's energy changed. Corum goes on to score a long TD the next play, etc.
I hadn't initially thought of this, but as soon as I read your post, I remembered this moment immediately. Northwestern was 5-0 and ranked No. 13 at the time!
Perhaps he has to put on a show about searching for an offensive coordinate (not unlike those who said we should perform a 'proper' search for HC instead of just promoting Moore)?

So many missed opportunities. Could reasonably be 4-0 Michigan right now. Frustrating.
Minnesota kills the penalty, boo.
What the ever loving fuck? Seriously?

Bring the OSU playbook with you.
The only way I see this working out is if Alford doesn't feel like the right fit for the offense under Chip Kelly.

According to the Free Press, it would be $3 million this year, $2 million next year, and $1 million the year after.

Can we decline to play in the Big Ten tournament? This is a crime against humanity.
A good honor, I hope he enjoys himself.
I don't feel the need to expand it, but I am sure that decision will be made by TV networks and not fans anyway.

They fired their inept coach before season’s end? Intriguing.

"We've tried nothing, and we're out of ideas!"

My instinct is that it is unacceptable, but also I don't know their relationship - it's possible that it was okay.
Kansas City is my AFC team because I have family there, so I’ll be rooting for them.
I am 100% certain he did that to emphasize his connection to Detroit, as Divine Child (his HS) is in Dearborn.
Been a minute since state had a better hockey team than ours.
That was a goal if he didn’t miss the puck. Damn.
Sparty’s night, unfortunately.
ed: unless?
I am confused. During that intermission we got an MSU hype video and their band played their fight song but Michigan got nothing
Ed: I suppose we did get a Michigan generic ad at the beginning, I forgot.
MSU starts the 3rd on a power play.
Ah, one of those games. 3-1 them. We have missed a ridiculous number of chances.
Getting shots off now at least
Saw that from a mile away, they’ve been getting quality chances. Barczewski under pretty heavy fire as of late.
I am at LCA and it looks/feels 70% MSU, 30% M.
Not sure why I even bothered to check the score.
Happy new year 🎉 !
Wow. I really thought much of our staff would remain in tact. Harbaugh really screwed us over.
Unfortunately, this is probably a net positive for OSU.

I am not sure "going back to the NFL in a couple of years" is any concern. Macdonald was here for 1 year before going back, and Minter was here for 2.

Out of 13,161 votes, it is 92.1% no to 7.9% yes. I would not be surprised if a healthy amount of those voting yes are from rival fanbases.

Ironically, the current doomers are the ones who were previously complaining that we promoted too much from within.
I have decided not to be upset about things that haven't happened yet. We'll see how he does this year.
Urban didn't go to coach anywhere else, so, this isn't really a fair comparison. There was nowhere to follow him to.

But yes, Minter is gone.
What? I am totally and completely shocked. Befuddled. Beguiled.
