If only a few other B1G…

If only a few other B1G teams could have colluded to scout ahead and share their laundry research with us on a shared Excel spreadsheet about what would happen, maybe our Big Ten patches would not have came out in the wash...

I finally beat RDR2 last…

I finally beat RDR2 last weekend.  So, I decided to finally take the plunge with Zelda BOTW (embarrassingly, I haven't played it yet).  I've never played any Zelda games before to be honest, and figured this would be a perfect time to play a game that has the potential tp take over 100 hours of game play.

What a privilege it must be…

What a privilege it must be for a few of the folks on this thread to see an older white man call a group of mostly black young men thugs and not understand why it's being seen as a racially insensitive statement regardless of the intent.

I'm not on here anymore to…

I'm not on here enough anymore to be a "Shea shit talker," but I'd still prefer to see Dylan over Shea.  One decent half in a losing effort probably doesn't change a lot of opinions on this topic.  That said, he certainly tried to make it happen, and falling short tonight in the end ultimately wasn't on him.

But even Shea is more …

But even Shea is more "mobile" than this site.

Infinitely more obnoxious…

Infinitely more obnoxious than people who throw temper tantrums and bad mouth their own team are the people who react with "find a new team..."

There is no set rules for fandom, and no one person gets to dictate that.  Quit playing the white knight role protecting the team from people who blow off steam by being negative.

Joke's on you. We're…

Joke's on you. We're probably not gonna win.

Not sure it had anything to…

Not sure it had anything to do with his dad, but the 2016 OSU game is for sure the the last time I saw any semblance of emotion out of him.

I played football for 8…

I played football for 8 years, does that mean I get to crap all over the team without your persecution of my decision to do so?  I'm not sure what that has to do with anything to be honest.

OP, some people rationalize losses differently than you do, get over it.  Live and let live.

Coach Flip could've kept it…

Coach Flip could've kept it going, but ducked after 1 year.  I get the reasons, but that was big let down/shock when he left that took away all the culture and momentum we had.

Stop drinking and go to bed.

Stop drinking and go to bed.

I was a ball boy for…

I was a ball boy for Michigan (mostly for the womens team, sometimes the men) during the sophomore and junior year of the fab five era.  My mom was also a part of the booster club...so much of my life during those years was spent at Crisler.

Juwan was always the most personable member of that group from what I remember (some were not so nice, not that I blame them for their reaction when I pestered them).  He never had a problem with me as awe struck kid trying to talk to him and mess with him, and would go as far as to even engage me in conversation.  I fondly recall one time someone playfully chasing me down the big tunnel that used to be where the locker rooms were, and Juwan grabbing me, putting me behind him and blocking whomever it was that was trying to get me.

He'll always be my favorite member of the Fab 5 for that reason, and I'm glad he's back home.

Ok, so a bunch of NBA owners…

Ok, so a bunch of NBA owners and GMs who were willing to consider him as a finalist for pro coaching gigs are less knowledgeable than you?  Because that's what your implying.

Like I said in another thread yesterday, this is not a pure nostalgia hire.  He's an in demand coach who's essentially considered the next man up for an NBA head coaching job, yet we got him to take a job on the collegiate level. He's not an ill-prepared nobody, with no cred who just happens to have played for Michigan.  Thinking that is plain ignorant.

Firstly because your…

Firstly because your expectations seem a bit high.  But also because Harbaugh was a foregone conclusion from pretty much day 1 even though it officially took a month to happen.  We all honestly were unsure what was going to happen with this job until yesterday when were a little over a week in.

You're just being ridiculous…

You're just being ridiculous and/or trolling at this point.  Some of the names you mentioned would've been amazing...but not realistically attainable.  It's also silly not to think Turnkey didn't reach out and gauge interest, and then were immediately shot down as was expected.  The other names are under the Yak line, which Howard is not.

Juwan was highly regarded on the NBA interview circuit, a finalist for multiple head coaching gigs there.  This is not a pure nostalgia hire, this is an in demand coach, the essential next man up for an NBA head coaching gig, extremely well respected, with a well renowned high basketball IQ.  The icing on top this cake is that he also happens to be a fab five member.

Get off of your irrationally high horse.

This is about the most…

This is about the most worthless take I've seen so far on this whole situation.

The only thing worse is that someone thought it was worth sharing it out to a wider audience than who already was subjected to waste time out of their lives reading its worthlessness.

Tough situation for Rob:…

Tough situation for Rob: having to manage two of the most powerful and influential people in the sport, both with many diva-like tendencies.  To assume there wasn't going to be over the top drama would be silly.  I don't think there was any way to avoid this inevitability... except to have avoided it altogether.

Too late for that.

Hey, my initials are JH!  So…

Hey, my initials are JH!  So you're saying I have a shot?

If Yak is so irreplaceable,…

Sorry but losing Yaklich would the height of incompetence.

If Yak is so irreplaceable, than we need to make him the head coach.

While I prefer Yak stay, if we get someone above the Yak line, which I certainly consider Juwan to be, then losing him is a risk I think we should all be happily willing and prepared to do.

Meyer is not coming back to…

Picking jordan and Meyer over Yaklich is simply an error.

Meyer is not coming back to Michigan if Jordan is hired.  His decision to leave Michigan was not entirely business related, and I'll leave it at that.

Definitely not one of the…

Definitely not one of the greats, but his trajectory was headed there in the 90s before it fizzled a bit.  The legend stuff relates to his college career, what he did in the pros when healthy, and his off the court success/popularity during that time.

And thank you about my sister, but that was over 20 years ago.  She got to play in a final four, but used up her eligibilty one year before they won an NC.  Not bad, all things considered.

On a related note, she does have first hand dirt on certain famous mens players who played in her conference who were getting paid.

I'm not and was not a Magic…

I'm not and was not a Magic fan, so that shot whooshes right over my head.  In fact, I personally despise the NBA in general and only tuned in only when I was bandwagonning the Pistons when they were relevant.

As someone who was recruited for football (on a much much lesser level than the kids we're talking about), and watching my sister getting recruited for women's ball on an elite level, I'm just putting myself in the perspective of some kid getting recruited and what sometimes appeals more to them than what appeals to the older fans like us.

He may certainly be a good…

He may certainly be a good recruiter, but right now he is outpacing all of the blue bloods (Kansas, UK, Duke, North Carolina etc.). That doesn't happen at a school like Memphis unless there are some under the table dealings going on

...or unless the recruiter/coach is an a charismatic and relatable NBA legend and one time pop culture icon who kids really want to not just play for, but also simply be around.

If he doesn't start producing and showing he can actually coach these kids, his star power as a recruiting tool will fade, and he won't be getting #1 classes.  But for now, Occam's Razor tells us the most logical explanation for his recruiting prowess is the curiosity factor caused by him being who he is.

Time will tell though.

There's one big thing that…

There's one big thing that Ewing lacks that Penny has boatloads of:  charisma...and holy shit does Penny have a ton of it.  He exudes confidence, positivity and cool.  The dude had his own commercials, had his own doll, had his own shoes, starred in a movie that resonates with any kid going through the basketball recruiting process (Ewing's Space Jam cameo doesn't compare).  His style of play in his day was what all these kids want to be like.  Ewing is a legend no doubt, but his star power doesn't resonate like Penny's does.

I'm not quite sure why very high talent kids wanting to play for him is a surprise to anyone.  I think it may a testament to how out of touch with the teenage male mind a lot of us are as we get older.

And you have zero common…

And you have zero common sense if you believe a first year NIT coach could recruit this well in this climate of college basketball after the FBI wiretaps became public not to.

Ignore how many years he's coached.  Ignore how successful his team was (or wasn't).  He's Penny fucking Hardaway, and that's how he recruits so well.

Well, I heard a rumor that you were seen at Metzgers with a real estate agent...

I get this sentiment.  I'm…

I get this sentiment.  I'm over him, and frankly have always been one of his naysayers in the past (there were many things about his teams' style that rubbed me the wrong way).  He's made me look like an ass a few times because of it.  But he cleaned up our culture, put us back on the map.  Hell, he put us in a position now where we can potentially go out and get a big name coach who has the potential to do bigger and better things here than even Beilein could ever imagine.

More than banners, more than our now squeaky clean reputation, Beilein's greatest contribution to Michigan basketball could  ultimately end up being leaving it at the right time and in a state where it was almost as an attractive of a coaching job as a blue blood school.

I gotta be honest, at 10 to…

I gotta be honest, at 10 to 1 for the 3 Beilein coaching tree candidates, that's a solid play.  Might be worth laying some down for that...especially if the interim tag counts.

Holy fuck, can they please…

Holy fuck, can they please stop playing that goddamn anime League of Legends commercial?  It's the most obnoxious commercial ever and alone is making me not want to watch anymore of this game.

To Indiana.  Let's say we…

To Indiana.  Let's say we relax and Michigan pulls it off, but not impressively.  We lose a little luster to the playoff committee, and with how close Georgia and OK are to us, we can't afford to not look pretty and dominant to inferior opponents right now.  A Michigan team that barely squeaks by Indiana doesn't make it in above a 1 loss Bama.  I'm having trouble chilling even though I'm still confident we're gonna win.

Maryland is gonna kill us.

I just signed in for the first time in weeks to comment on this.  Its my first time even coming to the site in at least a week.  I don't use it anymore after the update.  For a primarily mobile based user, it's no longer convenient to get to, or enjoyable to navigate.  With all due respect to Brian and Co., I'm completely on board for progress and refreshing the site, but this one fell very flat and alienated the very heavy mobile contigent here.

I'm coming up on my 10 year anniversary of signing up on MGoBlog in a couple months here, and I've never used the site less than I have now.  I hope that gives the powers that be some perspective.

I'll upvote him for you.  I…

I'll upvote him for you.  I used to love my Blackberry Curve.  My kids use it now as their pretend phone.  Even though the Curve was a sleek, more fragile device compared to other Blackberries of it's time, I really miss smartphones that could take a beating and keep going.

I wouldn't say redundant, at…

I wouldn't say redundant, at least to the audience.  A mobile app still has many more benefits when it comes to ease of use/access than a mobile "optimized" site.  A mobile optimized site is a must in this day and age, not a perk.  Releasing an app to go with the site is redundant only to those who running the site who don't want to invest resources and money into the development of an app.

I personally think going away from an app has adveresly impacted the experience of MGoBlog for me, and I imagine some others feel the same.  There's a reason a lot of sites with similar traffic and impact as MGoBlog have not just a better mobile version of their site, but an app to go with it.

I've said it before, but I hope Brian and Co. seriously reconsider their stance here.

I saw everyone running their…

I saw everyone running their own race today, a strategy that focused on their own horses' strengths and weaknesses rather than that of the other horses they were going up against.  Noble Indy for example has the speed as a horse that likes to get out in front early.  That didn't happen and it seemed like he was held back a little bit to see if he could have enough left to make a push down the stretch, which obviously didn't happen.

If he did, Indy could pressure Justify enough to throw him off a bit and possibly open the door up for Hofburgs strong closing style.  That's just the stuff I expected to see at least attempted, and was dissapointed I didn't.  When you have a dominant horse in the field, you can't just run your own race and expect to win.

As a bettor who loves the…

As a bettor who loves the excitement of getting behind underdogs, and a fan in general who loves parity in horseracing, I'm in a sour mood after the conclusion of this year's American classics and how its been the past few years.

You can at least humor me with a conversation rather than a writing a pointless comment where a simple downvote would've sufficed.

I used to be a horse racing…

I used to be a horse racing fan.  It just hasn't been fun anymore.  I'm sick if seeing Baffert's face and I'm sick of races where no jockey really has their horse challenge the favorite. Yes, he's the superior horse, but there's a strategy component to horse racing to stop the favorite from running it the way they want to, and that just isn't happening in the american classics lately anymore (especially in the derby).

It's weird to say, but I couldn't care less that we just had a triple crown winner.

Some of the comments here…

Some of the comments here are quite eye opening, showing how little so many understand about depression, suicide and empathy.  I'm quite embarrassed for some of you.

It just goes to show how much work still needs to be  done to remove from the stigma surrounding mental health so that we all can play an active role in being better people who can better help each other in their dark times (that they may be hiding from the world).

I financially/logistically…

I financially/logistically get the whole taking advantage of a mobile optimized site as a reason to not deal with the develop costs and headaches of a mobile app.  Even moreso, I get thar historically, mgoblog has had some issues and reluctance when it comes to throwinf resources at mobile developerd.  But at the same time, I enjoy the app experience.

These days, seldom am I on a computer outside of work.  I do almost everything on my cell phone, and as petty as it is, I don't like going to my browser to pull up a website I frequent (even when mobile optimized) when in most cases, that website as an app.  The app is easier to get to, and even further optimized for a mobile experience.

I hope at some point Brian and Co reconsiders.

Um...I can only log in if I use the password reset option.

I'm on a Galaxy Note 8, using the Chrome browser.  When I first tried to login with the same info I've had for the past 8 years, I got an error saying there have been too many login attempts from my IP address.  I reset my password to get with the 1 time code, and changed my password to something else.  A couple minutes later, I logged out and tried to get back in and I got the same error.

If I'm only gonna be able to get in through the one time link, I might have to sit this site out for a bit until the quirks get worked out.  Anyone else having this issue?

What Barnes Arico? Coaching women's basketball at

What Barnes Arico? Coaching women's basketball at U of M is not an easy gig, and in the Big Ten era for WBB, no head coach has gotten us to a postseason tourney as many times as Kim has...and she's done it every year she's been here so far to boot.

Given the success she's had with the level difficulty that comes with here, I think she deserves a spot on that list.

Driving down to Youngstown with the wife kids

Driving down to Youngstown with the wife kids later today to hang out with the in-laws. Not a fan of the state or that city at all, but family time is family time.

Also gonna spend tomorrow in Pittsburgh and take the kids to the Carnegie Natural History museum...and will try to sneak in a meal at Primanti Bros if they let me. I never really liked Pittsburgh before, but over the past year or so, I have a new appreciation for really how cool of a city it's becoming.

Happy memorial day weekend, everyone!

Favorite: "Snickers satisfies." There's been many separate campaigns they've had under this slogan, notably the diva ones as of the last few years, but I think the peak was the Halloween one with the grocery store "lady."

Least favorite: Arby's "Good mood food." I hated it so much that I literally boycotted Arby's until they finally got rid of it. Worst campaign ever and I hope the marketing campaign that created it never got hired anywhere again.

How do you figure that? Just looking at stats,

How do you figure that? Just looking at stats, there's not a ton of difference between recently former U of M players and MSU players in the NBA in terms of individual productivity...

Besides, the comment you are replying to wasn't making a U of M vs MSU statement, he was speaking solely about MSU and a guy who's going to Depaul.

If that race today was 1/16th of a mile longer,

If that race today was 1/16th of a mile longer, Justify loses. In the Belmont, if there is a horse that goes at him early like Good Magic did today, a fast closer is going to outsprint him down the wire and prevent the triple crown.

This gives me the heebie-jeebies

Former RiverRat here. Really didn't see this one coming when the news came out he was arrested. We all really liked the guy, he was awesome and friendly. All of us baseball players at Huron were jealous that Pioneer had him as their coach and my wife liked him when he was her biology teacher.

Really goes to show how these predators can hide in plain sight...and often uncomfortably close with those most like his potential victims. The sentence seems much too short as the shame is often not enough to stop a predator like this from trying again when he gets out.
