OT - OSU students tear gassed by police
According to three user-conglomerated sites, OSU students partying in their annual "Woodfest" (i.e. a large block party) were pepper-sprayed / tear-gassed / hit with batons by police. Defenders of the police's actions argue that the OSU students started throwing things at the police (which I would believe to be true without proof).
Let the witty comments commence!
Yay!
Cheering for police brutality on teenagers. Classy!
Are you cheering for the alternative? I suppose the police should stand around and watch these morons "break stuff" while making sure these poor innocent kids don't get hurt.
No, they should stop the morons from breaking stuff without hurting innocent kids. The choice is not binary.
your comments but there's not an "idiotic" category.
If you throw beer bottles at cops, you have no right to expect to not get your ass beat.
Although it was warranted if the students actually were throwing things. I find it pretty unlikely the cops just broke out the batons and pepper spray for the novelty of it.
I don't like unfounded accusations of police brutality.
Look at this video. The police are not being attacked, and yet they are pepper sparying large groups of people who are standing still booing them. They are just indiscriminately sparying people on the sidewalk.
There's one kid in the middle of the street who seems to be aggresive, but it's not like they are using the spray to neutralize specific violent individuals. They are just spraying everyone on the sidewalk. This is indiscriminate violence.

You act like these students had applied and recieved the right to gather. Here is how this works...
***You are drunk and part of a large crowd***
***Cop says. "Disperse immediately or you will be sprayed or jailed***
***You not only stay but boo and annoy cop***
***Cop is now pissed and pulls out pepper spray***
***You still refuse to leave and become more despondent***
***COP WINS***
EVERYTIME!!!
since it happens about every three days?
I'm about as certain those "students" were throwing stuff at police as I am the sun will come up tomorrow.
They're lucky it wasn't rubber bullets and tasers.
I would rather be hit with a taser than OC spray (pepper spray). Once that 5 second shock is over, the pain is gone. The OC spray that police use is water based and will reactivate every time water comes in contact with any spray that is on the skin. So every time these students take a shower for the few days they will feel the sting.
the sting they are going to feel when Brady and the boys pour a 25 gallon drum of Wolverine whip ass on their football team?
You are assuming that OSU students shower
They do shower, if shower means having beer poured on you.
Axe is the first, last, and only line of defense between the osu student body and the plague.
before the Michigan game
Never been pepper sprayed, huh?
You couldn't pay me to take the taser. That looks awful.
This sounds like college students in general..I remember going to block parties on Arbor and Greenwood that had to be broken up by police. The biggest difference is the ability for immediate commentary such as iPhones, Facebook, YouTube, and twitter which were not available even 7-10 years ago.
We don't throw shit at the police....
and Joe Bauserman threw full cans of beer at police...but they were intercepted.
Consistent with his spring results, Braxton Miller's bounced twice and landed on the officer's foot.
It was a good thing Pryor brought his legally purchased truck to take all the football players home and keep them out of trouble.
That is not Pryor's car. He is just test driving it.
It's not the block party aspect that warrantd this thread, it's the reaction to the police. We have block parties, but when the block party is shut down, everyone goes and does something else. We don't rrun amok like Sparty or now tsiO.
Is a sad story either ways. I thought all the hooligans were in EL. Guess Ohio didn't want to get left behind
figures.
good. They should have used rubber bullets against those monkeys
When I read "OSU Students" I was certain that they were demonstrating in support of the Arab Spring movement, not partying in support of "Woodfest."
I didn't think that a gathering of students in Columbus would be to effect social change.....that didn't seem likely somehow.
Lucky for the students that this crew wasn't around.
A coouple of my roommates were there and from what they said any police force was justified.
I was walking home from the bars when suddenly every cop in Columbus had their siren on and were converging on a single location. This morning I found out that the police had shown up to break up the party as it was getting out of hand. When a large "patty wagon" showed up, the students started booing it and throwing crap at it, at which point the cops started using tear.
So, Cops 1, drunken students 0, which is fine by me.
Those kids dont fire Gee.
Those kids dont fire Gee.
Or just live in Columbus?
I would like an answer to this question as well??
Yes I am a recent grad to tsio, but don't judge me as I am as big a Michigan as you'll find.
Very appropriate username, then. I hope you're doing what you can to bring them down from the inside!
Paddy Wagon-
Patty Wagon-
Because they've had bad encounters with "Mr. Crabs", if you catch my drift.
But that's one thing I'd rather not catch.
Woodfest sounds a lot like MSU's Cedarfest
Oh, the possibilities for untoward puns and double entendres are endless.
At least they didn't tase them, bro.
I guess no one was around for the glass bottle fight on Packard and East U a couple of weeks ago. Get off the high horse.
Glass bottle fights are cool when we do it.
Not a bad perk
The Ohioan police are actually good for something other than writing tickets to drivers with Michigan license plates. Cool.
the Ohio State fans' tears were not the the result of tear gas.
