Obviously no conference anywhere supports child molestation. Obviously. However, there are ways to handle these kinds of situations. I think the schools in the Big Ten hold themselves to a higher standard in handling things like this compared to schools in other conferences. The conference has a bit more of a "high and mighty" ethos than other conferences. You can't have that when you have high ranking members of a university covering up a case like this. The comments coming from their university president have been pretty disappointing in this regard. |

If not this, then what? What would be cause for removing a university from the conference? Remember this story goes up to the president of the university. It's not like this is just on Jerry Sandusky. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | this penn state story.. |
This Penn State story is worse than anything I've seen in college football. It puts SMU to shame and is a bigger black mark on a university than I think we've seen. Nothing that has happened in the SEC or whatever corrupt blah blah blah conference even begins to compare to covering up child sexual abuse all the way up the chain of command. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | the big ten has no good teams |
Whether it has several kinda-good teams is up in the air. It might just be bad. Like approaching ACC-level bad. I think more than anything there are a lot of teams with very inconsistent units on at least one side of the ball. Honestly the country in general doesn't have many very strong teams. The SEC West is a murderer's row but other than that... the sec east sucks, the big 12 is pretty meh and nobody there plays defense, the pac 12 is pretty meh with just stanford looking like they might be very good, the big east is disintegrating, the acc is quite meh..... Just a down cycle methinks. |

Did you manage to work Hitler into that joke?

| 1 year 28 weeks ago | probably true |
At the same time it's going to be frustrating for a kid to play pretty well and then get yanked for someone who's moving positions, injured, and toward the end of his career here anyway (so not really being developed for the long-term). That said politics is always going to have something to do with everything and if he's posting stuff like this on facebook he probably has some learning to do on that front. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | it's true.. |
I don't know if it has anything to do with the new regime or if it's down to weight gain or just being dinged up but it sure does seem like he doesn't have the same straight line speed he had last year. He's still very fast but it seems like he hasn't been getting the same breaks when he has the chance. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | i mean.... |
Acceptable? I don't think anything could happen record wise from here on out that would cause me to seriously question firing the coaching staff. It would leave a bad taste in my mouth. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | The Denard Jet |
The Denard Jet seemed like it was pretty awful today. In general it seems like our offense should have been able to get a good rhythm but was never able to do so and part of that has to fall on Borges. We had some big drops which really hurt us in the first half too. The defense didn't play wonderfully. Some of the missed gaps were very costly. But by and large they were fine. Gibbons hit a field goal. That was cool. Denard's passing today was off on the deep ball and that hurt. That said: STOP CALLING SO MUCH OF THAT SHIT. Also, Denard threw a checkdown today and it was exciting. I don't know what to do with myself. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | at least arsenal won |
I honestly wasn't expecting to win this game. Had no idea what to think. Losing like that leaves a bad taste in the mouth, though. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | I'm not sure... |
That Iowa defense is banged up terrible. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | 5 hours?!?! |
Damn, that's got to be some good stuff for a high school coach or something but that's a lot of football talk. |
| 1 year 29 weeks ago | fire ferentz |
Let's put the nail in there good next week. Losing to that team is just disgraceful. |
| 1 year 29 weeks ago | le sigh |
I think it's pretty clear by the time he was fired Rich Rodriguez was a broken man and really needed to reboot. I honestly think he probably woke up every morning, especially during the season, to the thought that there was something wrong. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | Oh, I don't know Mr. Hollis |
I think there is a question of whether he was caught up in the emotion of the moment vs the possibility that 60 minutes of unnecessary roughness was actually the game plan (along with jumping our snap count *twitch*). Nice try though, sneaking that in there. |

Position coaches.... *twitch* *deep breaths* |

| 1 year 30 weeks ago | 8 to 10 win season? |
There's a pretty massive gulf between 8 and 10 wins. Offer anyone here a 10 win season and they will snatch your hand off, especially if it includes an Ohio win. 8 wins? Meh? Your perspective re: beginning of the year assumptions is ok. The comment that made me hit reply was "8 to 10 win Michigan season." |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | oh my god the protection |
So Denard had happy feet but that's because people were constantly trying to kill him. It was that bad. Sweet Jesus Christ how the fuck do we get so comprehensively fucked on something as simple as varying the snap count? RAAAAAAAAAAGE!!!! Thanks for doing this Brian. You can go whimper in a corner now. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | ummm |
I think that's like, a thing right now with women's clothes? I don't know they started wearing the belts above the belly button a while ago (as in closer to the chest) and so I think the pants are kind of something similar. I don't know, these things move in ways nobody understands. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | well |
He is of course mostly interested in how they will be during the time he's there. Who knows what can happen with that program long-term? Yes, of course it's false. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | Dave Brandon is such a jackass |
Whatever, Michigan etc. and he was probably right about going with Hoke and spending more money on coordinators but my god the man's a prick. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | has to do it |
He has to go somewhere he can show his skills for NFL scouts. Indiana looks like they will be a tire fire for the next couple years. If Minnesota weren't in the conference, they would be embarrassing. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | nice things |
Michigan: an institution that puts out lots of great young people, does great research and other work for the benefit of the world, and remains one of my favorite places/things. MSU: their campus can be pretty. Dantonio: a man who has managed to stamp his personal mark onto every program he's been at, including msu. mgoblog: a wonderful community with a wonderful leader in Brian who has helped me to cope and stay attached to the program through some rough times. |

That first point was wonderful. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | grumpy wrathful person |
is grumpy and wrathful, because people never improve at anything when they practice it. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | if you remember |
They broke the huddle with very little time left on the playclock, which was a huge problem, obviously. THAT is on Borges I have to imagine. We barely got that play off. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | reality is ever-changing |
and in football a lot of it is coachable. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | eh |
We will see from UFR. I'm not casting blame so much as seeing something that we can totally work on and seeing a way to move forward on that issue. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | I think a week of just drilling mechanics |
I think a week of just drilling mechanics and not gameplanning will see more progress from Denard. The offseason was a time when he was definitely working on this hard but he was also swimming in a new playbook. Since then I'm sure a lot of time has been opponent-specific, especially recently. Now I'm hoping the coaches will use this week to re-stress throwing mechanics by itself rather than doing it in the course of the gameplan (which also has had some significant time devoted to running him in the Denard Jet, apparently). People have to refocus on their mechanics all the time and time to do just that often helps. Look at baseball pitchers, for instance. This is a particularly bad case but that means that the improvements made will be greater according to diminishing returns to scale, etc. When Denard does set his feet and throw properly his accuracy is really pretty good. It's not like he has some crazy hitch in his delivery like Tebow or something. He just seems to refuse to set his feet sometimes and throws off his back foot, feet parallel, whatever. That tends to stem from being indecisive and panicking when under pressure, in part, but I think it needs to be drilled into him a bit more so in those moments of panic it's more natural for him to come back to it. I'm sure the coaches realize this because they talk about it all the time and I'm really hopeful they plan to drill the hel out of it here in this bye week since they have more time than they've had arguably since spring ball or something. In other words I'm not asking them to perform miracles, just really focus on something they haven't had time to focus on for a while. I think they will and I think it will make a noticable difference. Maybe I'm blindly optimistic on that. |

It's even orange...
