I would be thrilled if the final bracket were like what Joe Lunardi posted today. First round against Dayton, potential Gonzaga in 2nd round (yes, I understand they're better than us, but the pressure will all be on them and we recently saw an undefeated 1 seed fall in the 2nd round when they finally played a P5 team), Sparty on the bottom side of the bracket and an Oregon team I saw Ricky Doyle dominate as the #2 seed.
Not saying I'd predict us to the Final 4, but I wouldn't be shocked.

VU not having an athletic department is kind of in name only. Their AD just reports to someone intermediate, unlike Warde who I believe reports directly to Schlissel. Does add a layer of bureaucracy and allows the administration to meddle in athletics, but for a small yet extremely wealthy school it makes more sense.
Also makes sense when you're at a school with a smaller AD, and whose most relevant sports are non-revenue (esp. baseball).

In your haste to be the first to post about this topic you leave out the single most important detail that Sam himself said (along with other Scout employees) that his site will continue to operate as it does now for the foreseeable future. Even when owned by 247, Scout will continue to be a thing.

They also got the #2 OT, also a top 10 player in the nation. Davis Mills is going to be well protected for the next four years.

Thank you, Jabrill. You were the (playing) face of the program the past 2 years, and I am psyched to see a ton of Michigan men balling out in the pros for years to come. Make us proud!

For all those who trashed Harbaugh for his comments about UM student-athlete academics back in 2007, well he is a man of his word. WD tweeted out yesterday a list of all players with declared majors and on the entire team there were only 3 or 4 BGS. Many majors were represented including economics, business, School of Information, psych etc. One player (I believe Noah Furbush) is Aerospace Engineering. Good to see Coach walking the walk after he talked the talk, you have to believe he had something to do with telling the advisors to stop steering his players into an easier major.

The reason he wasn't fired but the women's track coach was, is because her relationship was with one of her own athletes (which creates the appearance of an uneven power dynamic and a higher chance that the relationship wasn't 100% consentual) while his was with a student-athlete not under his jurisdiction.
Both relationships were wildly inappropriate but I can see why they were handled differently.

Who knows what's to come, but this year's UM team looks like Canada at the Olympics compared to how bad Wisco has been in recent years. Hard to see us falling that far.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||I don't think all the Alvarez||
I don't think all the Alvarez homerism in the world is getting Wisco into the playoff. I have a hard time seeing any way the winner of this Saturday's game makes it. Their best shot would be to dispatch PSU 58-0 or worse like OSU did to steal the 4 seed two years ago, though even if they did so, we still beat them head-to-head in a game that wasn't as close as the final score indicated.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||There is no team we should||
There is no team we should want to avoid. If a program wants to compete at a national championship level, which we do, it has to beat the best out there. If we do get into the playoff we'll play Alabama in Atlanta, and no one is going to give us a chance. But our guys won't be afraid.

If things break out our way, we are still a damn good squad with msu and osu at home next season. That lineup is a top-8 preseason team. I would say that one or more true freshman OL will play.

FTR, the other finalists happen to be:
Jeremy Pruitt, Alabama DC (IMO the only other one with a shot, but he worked with much more talent than Brown)
Brent Venables, Clemson DC
Jim Leavitt, Colorado DC (reminder we scored 45 on them)
Matt Canada, Pitt OC

I think he stays. Michigan seems to mean more to him than it did for other recent early-entry possibilities. Some of that is Harbaugh to be sure, and the winning culture he brought.

This team played literally the worst game they possibly could by a large margin. Their baseline is much, much higher than they looked tonight. So long as we come to play, people will forget about this one soon enough.

'Jail food' is also a load of BS. Athletes at Michigan dine on steak, chicken, salmon, pasta, fresh vegetables and homemade desserts most nights. Don't use rhetoric to make Michigan the 'bad guy' when it's really the system you're mad at.

Trey Burke is a great player who made it through 2 seasons at UM without anyone getting to know anything about him. That is his own prerogative, but also leads to situations where he hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt when he gets himself in trouble down the line.
He had legitimate gripes with the student-athlete experience and yet chose the worst possible way to make those public, in the process sullying the program's reputation. I definitely believe that winning titles and awards over that three-year period masked some serious problems from multiple players, not just Trey.
|14 weeks 1 day ago||I think behavior in recent||
I think behavior in recent weeks has told us all we needed to know about Burke. He is an all-time Michigan great but, at the time, the team winning and his individual success disguised an attitude that wouldn't fly in more trying times. No shock that attitude carries through to his interaction with former teammates.

John Elway was offered a large minority share of the Broncos, 8-figure salary as an executive and right of first refusal to purchase majority rights if the team was sold, in 1998. He turned it down.

In less positive news, Mitch did not make the OKC final roster. His 15 game suspension will still stand if he gets signed by another NBA team. Probably Europe-bound unless he can get it all figured out pretty quickly.

Don't care. All that mattered was winning one more game in 2013 and this doesn't change that.
|19 weeks 3 days ago||He wasn't talking about||
He wasn't talking about permissiveness. He was talking about politics. This kid had a politically/religiously conservative upbringing near Flint and made a stink during his recruitment about how Michigan didn't offer that. So he went to Tennessee. Given the DL haul we've had, he probably wouldn't have played much here anyway.

True. But NBA players are not average Joes, and even smart ones like Nik are under a lot of pressure from veterans to spend like a big shot from day one.
Anyone who remembers videos of Nik shooting at his home in Mississauga can see he is from a family of financial means, so I'm sure he is getting good advice, I just wouldn't go so far as to say he can live for many years off of what he already made.
|20 weeks 2 days ago||I don't know, man. Say, after||
I don't know, man. Say, after taxes and his agent's take, he's probably taken home $2-3 million so far before spending a penny. Now I'm sure he has spent some of that money already (i.e. buying a Porsche Cayenne when he didn't even have a driver's license) and you realize that he isn't set for life by any means. I'm rooting for Nik to make it in the league, he has a unique talent and is so fun to watch at his peak, but he hasn't done enough yet to live the rest of his life on cruise control.

Al Golden, book it.
I think it's clear that PSU is no longer a top-tier job, and the best they will likely be able to do in the next decade is compete for 3rd in the division (or cross fingers that realignment puts them in an easier division). So they won't be able to get a real top choice and will likely end up with an alum like Golden who has some P5 experience and would probably run through a wall to be the head guy there.
Also, he wears a tie on the sidelines.
|22 weeks 1 hour ago||No way. Didn't you read the||
No way. Didn't you read the PennLive article? Annoyed that he is the fourth-best coach in his own division (behind Franklin, Meyer, D'Antonio - in that order), Harbaugh is leaving for the Colts. He is so competitive he has to win a Super Bowl to match his brother, he doesn't like recruiting, his wife hates the cold weather, yada yada.
