R1 has to do with the research level of the university, so in that case it's a high-level research school.

FTMFW = for the mofo-ing win

XM I didn't know you were…

XM I didn't know you were Marquette located before. Last Monday (13th) we got destroyed but a wet, heavy snowfall. Now it's mostly all gone, at least in areas there wasn't a huge pile of it before. Hell it was in the 50s this weekend! Looking like we finally turned the corner though, into the mid 40s for the upcoming forecast.

Hello!

Hello!

This is how I feel, too. In…

This is how I feel, too. In a way I'd rather get blown out than die the slow "death slide" where you can barely feel the scale tipping but can't stop it and are just along for the ride. Don't get me wrong, they're both sickening, but at least with the blowout I can mentally disconnect myself from the torture and try to block all that out of my brain. With a latter kind of game it's just death by a thousand cuts, blargh.

EDIT: 52-28, OSU takes it.

This is mostly due to water…

This is mostly due to water cleanliness and disease; before plumbing water from a stream/river/pond/lake was generally contaminated with all sorts of natural and man-made wastes, causing sickness and death. But while brewing beer the water was heated and sterilized, meaning it was safe to drink. As a result most people consumed multiple servings of beer per day (even children) as they wouldn't drop dead "randomly".

Additionally, "grog" (like on naval and pirate ships) was a mixture of rain water and whatever beer or spirits they had. Barreled water would quickly sour/go bad, especially on longer voyages, so the drunk alcohol was usually mixed with fresh rain water and the individual barrels were depleted.

The amount of projection and denial going on in the last chunk of comments is insane, and mildly disturbing...

I didn't know someone could…

I didn't know someone could be so unbelievably wrong, yikes

Very interested to know if…

Very interested to know if the suspension means he's not paid, as well as learning how much that fine is going to be.

As tempting as it is to…

As tempting as it is to whoop his ass, Pittsburgh will take total domination over Cleveland and the overall satisfaction of not being a shitbox franchise or city.

Leave the thug bullshit to Ohio.

I thought it was a low-grade…

I thought it was a low-grade beaver tranquilizer?

Honestly, after a quick…

Honestly, after a quick rewatch they had a few plays that could have popped for even more yardage, but something didn't quite go correctly.

Michigan's first drive, the 2nd and 7 play they run a pin-and-pull to the bottom of the screen and have Onwenu and Bredeson pulling - Onwenu rumbles through the hole and is escorting Haskins, but Bredeson's man gets off his block (ND's safety, number 11) and makes the tackle. Otherwise that run is headed into the second level and easily gets first down yardage, with Onwenu about to take on another safety.

Blah!

Still feeling alright after…

Still feeling alright after getting cornholed by PSU huh? I figured you'd be passed out drunk by now.

I'll distill this down for…

I'll distill this down for you: over the past five, ten, twenty years Ohio State has been one of the top five teams in the country. Michigan has not been. That's why OSU wins on the road, and Michigan doesn't.

Quit drinking and go to bed

Normally I'm with you WD but…

Normally I'm with you WD but I think the "to play football the way it's supposed to be played" bit is total BS. Attitudes like that are what lead to the forcible rejection of progress (and guys like RichRod) and innovation.

Offense generally needs to evolve from 1984 to be effective over the long haul.

Dad already hated postgame…

Dad already hated postgame traffic, but that was the nail in the coffin. Only reason I got to see Braylonfest in full was because for that game we had split tickets so I didn't have to leave with him.

That was the first football…

That was the first football game I went to as a child. My father was thrilled I showed interest in the sport. We stayed until the end so I could "see what a Michigan victory was like" and then Kordell happened.

We don't stay to the end anymore. Bonus kick-in-the-nuts points for the Steelers drafting Kordell, misusing him, and him being (basically) a weakness that led to years of frustration and playoff losses.

Can't win man, can't fucking win.

Why be content? Why not…

Why be content? Why not strive to have better?

I am not, but I do have…

I am not, but I do have several family members who are. Two/three loss seasons, while not preferred, are not abhorrent to me. I simply look at the sustained, high-level of success that programs like OSU, Oklahoma, Clemson (more recently) have had and potential roadblocks for Michigan to achieve that level (minus OSU, obviously). The basketball (and now baseball) teams' deep runs in the past decade have fueled this thought - it just always seems like Michigan winds up losing in the end to a team more willing to push the envelope (sometimes literally) or bend the rules. Again, a runner-up finish is nothing to be angry or ashamed about.

Alabama is in their own zipcode and it'll be interesting to see how much they regress once Saban is done, especially with the (general) lack of success from Saban's coaching tree.

Their revenue is sitting at…

Their revenue is sitting at 25, though (unless I read that wrong). I wonder how much of that has to do with 'only' having 81,500 seats.

You're correct, it is about…

You're correct, it is about how rich (and numerous) they are, I mistyped. My original point still stands though, that the AD has money for these kind of endeavors and that Michigan is more well off than just about any program in the country.

I'm more tired of having the…

I'm more tired of having the athletic department sit on piles of cash that are bigger than basically anyone else's while other schools pay players under the table.

The current rules are a clear disadvantage for Michigan and, to me, it's foolish to want those current rules to continue if you want Michigan be compete nationally at the sport of your choosing.

Ah good, my school has to…

Ah good, my school has to play the #1, 3, and 5 teams in the state. Gotta love the OAA.

EDIT: I lied, it's just 1 and 5. They don't play Oak Park this year.

Like stehenrjking said, you…

Like stehenrjking said, you may have a slightly blocked/incomplete view due to being so low. Typically the races aren't sold out anymore, so you should be able to move around and find a view you'll like. Personally I enjoy just off of turn 4/right at the entrance to pit road, but I also recommend at least taking a walk down the grandstands into turn one and standing as close as you can get to the fence for the sense of speed at the end of the straightaway.

Go into it with an open mind; have fun!

You can bring food/drinks in…
  • You can bring food/drinks in, if the bag is clear and fits their size requirements (not sure of specifics).
  • Make sure you have sunscreen and hats, and plenty of it.
  • Bring something to sit on - a seat pad, etc. The metal bleachers get old after a few hours (same as a Michigan game, honestly).
  • Educate yourself a bit on the drivers, if you don't know anything going in. Pick a favorite if you don't have one - both Brad Keselowski (#2 Ford) and Eric Jones (#20 Toyota) are from Michigan. Keselowski comes from a big racing family from Rochester and is a huge U of M fan. Otherwise, find a number, sponsor, or make you like and go from there.
  • I would highly, highly suggest renting one of the scanners for the race - it makes it infinitely better. I own one but the gist is you can hear, unfiltered, all the teams' radio communications - cussing, strategy, the whole bit, it's fantastic. The devices they have now incorporate that in but also have the TV broadcast as well.
  • The only other question I have is where are your tickets located? I can give some general advice for your location in the grandstands as well.
But muh Aaron Rodgers!

I…

But muh Aaron Rodgers!

I live in the UP, basically Packer country, and being a Steeler fan I know the impact injuries have on QBs, especially when creating something out of nothing/scrambling around is a large portion of their game. Rodgers is not going to age well and is already showing signs of decline, but it's all just a constant circle jerk about him.

It's honestly a miracle he…

It's honestly a miracle he can even walk; I don't see him coming back to the NFL, he has a pretty big gait in his step and will have to rebuild all that lower body strength again.

Steeler fan here. From Bush…

Steeler fan here. From Bush's sophomore year on I was telling anyone who would listen that he would be a great fit in Pittsburgh. So very glad the Steelers have yet another Michigan linebacker...hopefully he can win as many Super Bowls with them as Larry Foote or LaMarr Woodley did.

Agreed. I wonder and am…

Agreed. I wonder and am anxious about what the world will do once those remaining service members are gone - who will be the voice to help ward off evil? One with firsthand experience?

Going to go out on a limb here and say Dylan McCaffrey. I really like what he's shown so far and just feel like he's got that "it" factor.

I'm curious how different that is from the rest of Virginia

24/7 didn't get catfished, Rivals ranking the fake kid a 3* just showed up in their composite rankings, likely due to data sharing.

Rivals is the one to be ashamed, and even more so if they wrote a real (faked) scouting report on the ghost player...probably including "needs to work on pad level".

That 2008 Steelers defense…

That 2008 Steelers defense is one of, if not the greatest defense I have personally witnessed in the NFL. They lead the NFL in all the major stat categories, IIRC.

Brett Keisel, Casey Hampton, and Aaron Smith on the DL (each at least one pro bowl appearance); James Harrison (16 sacks in '08), James Farrior, (3.5 sacks) Larry Foote (1.5 sacks), and LaMarr Woodley (11.5 sacks, 4 FR) at LB; Ike Taylor, Deshea Townshend/Bryant McFadden, Ryan Clark, and Troy Polamalu at DB.

Absolutely insane team. Loved that defense.

True, if you sat out you…

True, if you sat out you wouldn't have gotten that pick in the endzone to prevent Michigan from going down 14-0. We also wouldn't have had those two long TD passes from you to yourself, or the play-action TD pass from you to yourself as well.

My favorite moment from you…

My favorite moment from you bringing us a national championship was your endzone interception of Ryan Leaf.

Second favorite bowl moment of yours was getting suspended indefinitely for talking to an agent, therefore missing most of 1998. Well done.

He was such an enigmatic…

He was such an enigmatic figure on Last Chance U. Very odd to watch his trajectory.

I really loved your one…

I really loved your one-handed INT against MSU. And your punt return TD against OSU. And your long throws to you in the Rose Bowl for those TDs. And that interception of Ryan Leaf in the endzone. I wish you hadn't gotten pushed down by the WSU WR at the end of the game to set up that "controversial" ending though

Assuming you have decent internet and an adblocker on your computer, this is the most reliable option I've found for streams if you don't have access to WatchESPN/FoxSportsGo/etc.

Also works if you want to watch NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL games - just sub "cfb" for "NFL" or whatever else you're trying to watch. Typically steam links are posted 20 or 30 minutes before the game starts.

Enjoy!

His (increasingly…

His (increasingly nonexistent) reactions to the OSU/Purdue game were hilarious to listen to as well. Lots of dead air with Fowler trying to interject various observations there too.

Northwestern was coming off a bye week though, if memory serves. So that might have had something to do with their early initial success.
