2019 roster-recruiting finish
So..
We all know attrition is coming, im still thinking class size of 28.
NFL early entries:
Patterson
Long
Bush
Gary
Not going to name names but I could see:
1 qb transfer
1 rb transfer
1 OL transfer/1 OL 5th year firm handshake
1 DE transfer/ 1 DE 5th year firm handshake
1 safety transfer
1 punter transfer
1 kicker transfer
So that’s 13 departures which would allow for a class size of 28 to be at 85 scholarships. Obviously a bit of a guess but this is still some agressive attrition projected.
Class size 25 currently, minus Gray likely decommit. Means 4 more commits.
Possible commits:
1 WR. Because wow we need one.
TE Robinson
OT Keegan
OT Jones
DT/SDE Karlifitis
DE Harrison
LB Deloach
LB Solomon
LB Crouch
Might be a few more that pop up or the class could grow if we get another decommit or two. My realistic hope is that we get a quality WR, an OT, Harrison (I don’t think Karlifitis will come as it looks like Brohm may stay) and one the LBs.

I doubt Shea leaves but time will tell.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
He needs to develop pocket presence. He leaves way to early.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
You are definitely right, but I still think he goes pro. He seems to have come here with that intention and next year's QB draft class will be way more competitive than this year's.
November 27th, 2018 at 3:11 PM ^
Yes, that was his plan, but there's no way he's committed to it. It was based on his projection of his draft prospects. Is there any reason to think he would go if he was dissatisfied with them?
Projecting the strength of a future draft class is always a crapshoot. Obviously Tua makes it stronger at the very top. Not relevant if you're not projected to be a top 5 QB now. I'd think what's really relevant is what round he's projected to. If it's 2nd, I'd guess he goes. If it's 4th, that gives him a lot of room to move up, regardless of how strong the top few QBs are.
November 27th, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
Tua, Eason, and Fromm are probably ahead of him in most GM’s eyes. If Haskins comes back, then he too will be rated ahead of Shea.
November 27th, 2018 at 4:19 PM ^
They are all true sophomores. So they can’t come out. Haskins is a red shirt sophomore
November 27th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
Easons a red shirt soph like haskins
November 27th, 2018 at 9:40 PM ^
What on Earth makes you think Eason is ahead of Shea?
November 27th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
Shit, so he has already shown that he tends to leave too early from places? We're doomed.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
WAY bigger issue for Patterson in the NFL will be his arm strength. Candidly I just dont see him having enough of it to make the jump and if you look at the five QBs that went in the first round last year they all had crazy good arm talent.
I love that Patterson is our QB but if you told me he was actually just a middling 3 star and not the #1 ranked 5 star QB in his class I wouldnt argue the point. And we of all fan bases should know that just because somebody is a 5 star out of high school (cough, cough, Shane, cough, Morris) doesnt mean they're necessarily bound for the pros.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Candidly I just dont see him having enough of it to make the jump and if you look at the five QBs that went in the first round last year they all had crazy good arm talent.
If Shea leaves thinking that the first round is in play, he's going to be rather disappointed. Rudock was a 6th round pick and he seemed like a much more NFL ready QB than Shea.
In any case, it's a moot point since Shea would be crazy to leave.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:47 PM ^
I think you're right. He's late round or undrafted if he comes out this year.
November 27th, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
Huh. I don't see his arm strength as a negative. He doesn't have a plus arm but it's not a negative either. Has a good release, is mobile and has shown some beautiful throws on occasion. He will never have elite size but I think pocket awareness and progressions are the thing holding him back from a top-2 rounds grade right now.
November 27th, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
This offense doesn't make anyone but tight ends and fullbacks look good.
November 27th, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
Yup. There is no way Patterson sticks around to throw for a 180 yards a game in this 1980s boring ass offense. Hell Patterson would of doubled his yards if he stayed at Ole Miss. Harbaugh’s offense isn’t designed to make QBs look good. And If Mayfield transferred to UM he never would’ve been a first rounder or a Heisman trophy winner.
November 27th, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
In his last 5 games, Rudock threw for at least 250 yards and averaged over 300 with 14 TDs and 2 INTs. Patterson has the ability to play his way into the first round with this offense.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
Shea may not but I can't see Peters sticking around so that still opens a QB slot.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
He has a QB transfer in there as well.
November 27th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
Shea may need another year and I appreciated/enjoyed his play this season, but I think it is time to turn over the reigns to McCaffrey with Milton as the solid #2. My thinking is everyone is the QB room had an understanding that Shea was on a one year deal. I understand things can change, and it would probably benefit him to stay, but I am ready for the McCaffrey era to fully begin.
November 27th, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
Can I ask why? Do you really think he's going to be appreciably better in the 20 throws he gets a game, half of which ignore the talented WRs?
November 27th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Don’t think Patterson is gonna leave early. Also if that’s our final class then damn. We done good
November 27th, 2018 at 1:23 PM ^
I would be surprised if Shea leaves. He doesn't seem to be very high on a lot of the mock draft boards.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:23 PM ^
I'm guessing Crouch is Clemson-bound. And yes--another WR. Please.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:23 PM ^
What are the symptoms of karlafitis?
November 27th, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
Depends. If you're an OL, severe dizziness and loss of balance.
If you're a QB, paranoia, restless leg syndrome, agonizing pain, and PTSD.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
And diarrhea.
November 27th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
Is diarrhea what they mean when they say “movement in the pocket” ?
November 27th, 2018 at 8:39 PM ^
Only if you are Charlie Weis. The "movement in the pocket" description sounds like what the onfield security was doing while watching the cheerleaders in an NFL game.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:08 PM ^
If we get him, something might last longer than 4 hours.
November 27th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Symptoms are unknown, but it is a temporary cure for BuckeyeBombarditis...
November 27th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
From what I've seen, it sounds like Brohm is still likely to leave. His buyout decreases by $1.1m on 12/5.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
The second shittiest part of getting our clocks cleaned by OSU is the impact on recruiting. It would have been nice to have a B1G Championship party and playoff game(s?) to which to invite recruits
November 27th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
Absolutely right - scares me shitless.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
I'd be shocked if Shea leaves. Compared to some of the top names on the QB board, he has some work to do. He's also quite a bit younger than most of them.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
Who is the possible DE transfer?
November 27th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
Ron Johnson maybe. Dude is a ghost.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
I can think of at least three who might transfer.
November 27th, 2018 at 3:28 PM ^
Since you've mentioned three, has Luigi Vilain ever fully recovered from his injury? As of last June, he seemed confident that he would've been able to play this season, but he hasn't played.
November 27th, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
No player has had me more intrigued than Vilain the last 2 years. I really hope hes fully healthy by spring, and hope he does not decide to transfer as some have mentioned. We have had pretty good success with DEs under Mattison, but none of the WDE we have brought in were at the level of Vilain in HS. So I just cannot imagine with Brown/Mattison can do with someone like him.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:27 AM ^
Until Magnus mentioned that he could "think of three" defensive ends who might leave, I hadn't thought of Luigi Vilain as one of the three possibilities other than Rashan Gary to leave, but then I looked at the roster and couldn't think of anyone else who might fit that description besides Reuben Jones and Ron Johnson (unless Julius Welschof is heading back to the Bundesliga).
In the clip I posted, Luigi Vilain says that he underwent "pretty complicated surgery." When I heard that, I thought (a) of Grant Newsome's career-ending injury, and (b) that medical professionals might've told Luigi Vilain that, despite his hard work in rehab, he stands a great risk of much more serious damage if he were to suffer a similar injury to the same knee/leg.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:49 PM ^
Reuben Jones
November 27th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
That would be a 5th year handshake
November 28th, 2018 at 1:03 AM ^
That was a good one.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
I know it's not my business, but I don't see any recruits listed for the position of "Defensive Coordinator". Just making sure you have all the bases covered.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:41 PM ^
If the post-season evaluation finds that our program needs a boost in illegal activity, we'll be sure to give someone on your staff a call thanks.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:46 PM ^
Urban Meyer's halfway house for coaches. Quite literally.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
So, it sounds like you're solid on the whole defensive coordinator thing. I was just trying to help so that this game would be more entertaining for you next year. I'm very ok with you keeping your current staff as it is, the more lunch money the better.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:09 PM ^
Actual tough questions in a press conference causing Urb to look like an idiot, actual calls for him to be fired.....deflect.....oh by the way, I have a deadly brain cyst that never seems to act up when I'm winning.
Dude missed his calling as a politician.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
That frigging brain cyst story is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. That guy simply refuses be held accountable for anything negative. The simple truth is that this is an obsessive guy that - while a great coach - chooses professional success over just about any other competing priority. Every one of us makes those trade-offs every day and we deal with the results. But he has to spin the consequences of his choices in a way that makes him a VICTIM - it's a cyst that flares up under stress... it's a disease. Give me a frigging break. No, Urban, it's your conscious choices to blame. Nothing else.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Him looked super stressed and grabbing his head on the sideline when OSU was struggling reminded me of myself when I'm playing in my unathletic adult basketball league and totally whiff on defense or airball a shot, I pretend like my knee or shoulder is bothering me.
Anyways, feeling bad for a guy who stays in a high stress job even though he has a health condition aggravated by high stress is like feeling bad for a type 2 diabetic who continues to eat a carb heavy diet.
