2019 roster-recruiting finish

So..

We all know attrition is coming, im still thinking class size of 28.

NFL early entries:

Patterson

Long

Bush

Gary

Not going to name names but I could see:

1 qb transfer

1 rb transfer

1 OL transfer/1 OL 5th year firm handshake

1 DE transfer/ 1 DE 5th year firm handshake

1 safety transfer

1 punter transfer

1 kicker transfer

So that’s 13 departures which would allow for a class size of 28 to be at 85 scholarships. Obviously a bit of a guess but this is still some agressive attrition projected.

Class size 25 currently, minus Gray likely decommit. Means 4 more commits.

Possible commits:

1 WR. Because wow we need one.

TE Robinson

OT Keegan

OT Jones

DT/SDE Karlifitis

DE Harrison

LB Deloach

LB Solomon

LB Crouch

Might be a few more that pop up or the class could grow if we get another decommit or two. My realistic hope is that we get a quality WR, an OT, Harrison (I don’t think Karlifitis will come as it looks like Brohm may stay) and one the LBs.

Yes, that was his plan, but there's no way he's committed to it. It was based on his projection of his draft prospects. Is there any reason to think he would go if he was dissatisfied with them?

Projecting the strength of a future draft class is always a crapshoot. Obviously Tua makes it stronger at the very top. Not relevant if you're not projected to be a top 5 QB now. I'd think what's really relevant is what round he's projected to. If it's 2nd, I'd guess he goes. If it's 4th, that gives him a lot of room to move up, regardless of how strong the top few QBs are.

WAY bigger issue for Patterson in the NFL will be his arm strength.  Candidly I just dont see him having enough of it to make the jump and if you look at the five QBs that went in the first round last year they all had crazy good arm talent.

I love that Patterson is our QB but if you told me he was actually just a middling 3 star and not the #1 ranked 5 star QB in his class I wouldnt argue the point.  And we of all fan bases should know that just because somebody is a 5 star out of high school (cough, cough, Shane, cough, Morris) doesnt mean they're necessarily bound for the pros.

If Shea leaves thinking that the first round is in play, he's going to be rather disappointed. Rudock was a 6th round pick and he seemed like a much more NFL ready QB than Shea.

In any case, it's a moot point since Shea would be crazy to leave.

Huh.  I don't see his arm strength as a negative.  He doesn't have a plus arm but it's not a negative either.  Has a good release, is mobile and has shown some beautiful throws on occasion.  He will never have elite size but I think pocket awareness and progressions are the thing holding him back from a top-2 rounds grade right now.

Yup. There is no way Patterson sticks around to throw for a 180 yards a game in this 1980s boring ass offense.  Hell Patterson would of doubled his yards if he stayed at Ole Miss.   Harbaugh’s offense isn’t designed to make QBs look good.  And If Mayfield transferred to UM he never would’ve been a first rounder or a Heisman trophy winner.

Shea may need another year and I appreciated/enjoyed his play this season, but I think it is time to turn over the reigns to McCaffrey with Milton as the solid #2. My thinking is everyone is the QB room had an understanding that Shea was on a one year deal. I understand things can change, and it would probably benefit him to stay, but I am ready for the McCaffrey era to fully begin.

The second shittiest part of getting our clocks cleaned by OSU is the impact on recruiting. It would have been nice to have a B1G Championship party and playoff game(s?) to which to invite recruits

No player has had me more intrigued than Vilain the last 2 years. I really hope hes fully healthy by spring, and hope he does not decide to transfer as some have mentioned. We have had pretty good success with DEs under Mattison, but none of the WDE we have brought in were at the level of Vilain in HS. So I just cannot imagine with Brown/Mattison can do with someone like him.

Until Magnus mentioned that he could "think of three" defensive ends who might leave, I hadn't thought of Luigi Vilain as one of the three possibilities other than Rashan Gary to leave, but then I looked at the roster and couldn't think of anyone else who might fit that description besides Reuben Jones and Ron Johnson (unless Julius Welschof is heading back to the Bundesliga).

In the clip I posted, Luigi Vilain says that he underwent "pretty complicated surgery."  When I heard that, I thought (a) of Grant Newsome's career-ending injury, and (b) that medical professionals might've told Luigi Vilain that, despite his hard work in rehab, he stands a great risk of much more serious damage if he were to suffer a similar injury to the same knee/leg.

I know it's not my business, but I don't see any recruits listed for the position of "Defensive Coordinator". Just making sure you have all the bases covered.

Actual tough questions in a press conference causing Urb to look like an idiot, actual calls for him to be fired.....deflect.....oh by the way, I have a deadly brain cyst that never seems to act up when I'm winning.

Dude missed his calling as a politician.

That frigging brain cyst story is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  That guy simply refuses be held accountable for anything negative.  The simple truth is that this is an obsessive guy that - while a great coach - chooses professional success over just about any other competing priority.  Every one of us makes those trade-offs every day and we deal with the results.  But he has to spin the consequences of his choices in a way that makes him a VICTIM - it's a cyst that flares up under stress... it's a disease.  Give me a frigging break.  No, Urban, it's your conscious choices to blame.  Nothing else.

Him looked super stressed and grabbing his head on the sideline when OSU was struggling reminded me of myself when I'm playing in my unathletic adult basketball league and totally whiff on defense or airball a shot, I pretend like my knee or shoulder is bothering me.

Anyways, feeling bad for a guy who stays in a high stress job even though he has a health condition aggravated by high stress is like feeling bad for a type 2 diabetic who continues to eat a carb heavy diet.
