Tom Brady set another GOAT record last night
During the go ahead drive last night, Tom Terrific passed the Heisman Trophy runner up (from TN) for most passing yards in regular season and play-offs combined. Drew Brees owns the all-time regular season passing yardage mark.
In the process, Brady became the first QB with over 80,000 passing yards.
A short passing leader list is in the link: https://boston.cbslocal.com/2018/11/05/tom-brady-sets-new-nfl-record-passing-peyton-manning-most-all-time-yards/
Sidebar - Did anyone see the real goats with Brady and Rogers jerseys? The Brady goat was giving the Rogers goat massive head butts!

I like GOAT cheese!

I also saw that Brady is something like 20-11 going head-to-head against false GOATs and GOAT imitators (Manning, Brees, Big Ben, Brees, Rodgers). Everyone else was hovering around .500 or worse. Maybe the most meaningful stat in the GOAT debate.

Yeah, but how's his record against Unitas, Montana and Marino?

5 Super Bowl wins to....

Undefeated baby

Never beat ANY of them head-to-head, all I know!

The term "GOAT" is completely played out. It was lame at the start and it's worse now.
November 5th, 2018 at 11:05 AM ^
Go away.
November 5th, 2018 at 11:06 AM ^
YOU'RE lame at the start and somehow worse now.
November 5th, 2018 at 11:55 AM ^
Yeah, when applied to players from other schools' teams it totally is!
Can you see the distinction?
November 5th, 2018 at 12:01 PM ^
I can't agree more with this. It is just lazy.
People and journalist just throw the moniker on any somewhat great player.
Not everyone is a GOAT. Stop using it everyday.
November 5th, 2018 at 12:13 PM ^
But, Brady is the greatest of all time, so in this context, it is neither lazy nor incorrect to use it

I think it is bullshit that the 'all-time leader' categories in major sports ignore the playoffs. The only defense of this I hear is, "A player is not responsible for how good his team is."
Let's take it a step further. Since it is unfair to count playoff games because Drew Brees didn't get to play in as many as Tom Brady, I think it is unfair to count dropped passes against the quarterback. Since a player is not responsible for how good his team is, he shouldn't be responsible for dropped passes. Let's go back and add in dropped pass yardage. On the flip side, how can a quarterback be responsible for YAC yardage? Let's remove that. And since the offensive line is responsible for keeping the QB upright, let's weigh in sacks somehow.
Why are playoff games the logical breaking point? Barry Sanders would have had thousands more yards than Emmitt Smith if he played behind the same line. If a game counts, it counts. It's stupid to suggest Brady doesn't have the most yardage unless you suggest that the postseason is just an exhibition.

I would take it a step further and say that playoff games are even more meaningful than regular season games as the competition gets much more difficult - no cupcake teams - and it gets harder the deeper in the playoffs you go.

To your point, maybe "good" QB's don't have ridiculous playoff stats (like Tom) because they can't win and advance. Maybe the GOAT QB's will their team to win and get another chance to pad their playoff stats.
Maybe. Let's ask Wayne Gretzky, Tim Duncan, or John Smoltz (or Glavine/Maddux)

Babe Ruth (and many NYY from several eras) played in dozens more post-season games than their peers. But the regular season was the same length for all of them (until it wasn't!)
You can measure regular & post-season stats separately AND combined to get fuller measures of accomplishments.
Which is, I believe, what's being done here?
November 5th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
I think the contention is that the default is regular season only, and that the post season record is the secondary accomplishment. I didn't see Tom Brady hugging his kids last night, nor did the refs give him a fucking plaque. Sorry, still think that was a stupid thing to do in the middle of a game...
The opposite should be true. The main records should include postseason, and the secondary records should be a consolation prize for those that weren't able to play in meaningful postseason games.

A true champion and a leader, always credits the team for his achievements.

Next UM head coach?
November 5th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
I've heard this a few times, from various fans; why do people think he would ever be interested in such a thing?
November 5th, 2018 at 11:11 AM ^
Ah yes, "records". Asterisks all around

Says the guy whose coach intentionally interfered with an opposing player returning a kick down the sideline, then laughed about it.
November 5th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
Yep, those events are equal in effect and magnitude. You're totally right.

The guy is purely amazing. Definitely the GOAT. Go Blue!
