I guess I'm ok with the Boston Stong thing but I hate the Boston Red Sox.

You alude to something I thought about too. That they had named captains and guys who did the press interviews and said the right stuff but I'm not positive that these were the best leaders in the locker room.
I don't think there was a guy there to step up on the soapbox, so to speak, and push and encourage his teammates. To some those kinds of things may sound corny but I feel it's imperative for successful teams to have vocal leaders who willing and know how to positively push their teammates.

I agree. Stopping in mid-stream is not easy and sometimes painful.

This is what I take from it as well. Something just didn't feel right last season and I like that Hoke aluded to it although he won't directly name individuals.
I think it will be up to the younger players to lead this team because that's basically all they got.

I agree with pretty much everything you've stated.
If the current system was just tweaked, massaged and adjusted I think it could easily provide everything.

It's too bad the the NBA D League wasn't actually for developing players instead of a place for NBA washouts to land.
I kind of like how MLB has it. They can draft/sign a kid right out of HS then put him in the team's farm club until he's ready or play right away if he's a Bryce Harper kind of talent.

I am in no way in favor of a direct pay for play model. This would end college athletics as we know it. It just would.
Emmert was on Mike & Mike this morning and although most believe him to be the root of all evil some of his thoughts were interesting. If college athletes are considered employees of the college and are paid for playing on a team there would be no stopping schools/coaches from "hiring" older players. Labor laws would apply so therefore you couldn't discrimmate because of age.
Why would you want to waste time on a 18 year old who you may have to develop over the period of 2-3 years when you could get a 25 year old low lying NFL guy or Canadian league player?
I am in favor of things like open/unlimited meal plans, doing away with yearly scholarships, or things like offering scholarships for degrees no matter how long or time period it took to earn that degree.
Because college athletes can't of don't have the time for a part time job I'd be in favor of creating an expense account that would be the equivalent of the amount earned working a decent part time job.

The mid 1980's thru mid to late 1990's were a golden age in basketball. There were so many great players in those times. I wish the game now was played like it was then.

Could sometime in the future if student athletes end up catagorized as employees, could they then drop the academic portion completely and merely just be paid employees that play on a school sponsored athletic team?
Just curious if that could ever be a possibility. Alot would probably depend on the terms of the payment/compensation/etc.

A few immediate random thoughts:
-Maybe the coaches are thinking that their chances with Lucier-South or Cornell are trending down.
-They do not want to wait on 5* guys until 2015 signing day to fill the DE position.
-More DE offers create a little more competition for someone to pick UM.
Hopefully it's as you mention, in that they believe that this could be someone who will start to recieve alot of attention and want to get in early.

I understand what you're saying and I kind feel for a guy like Malzone who you know would commit on the spot if offered. It'd be great to get lifelong UM fans as players but I'll trust the coaches with offer decisions.
I still think Malzone is a good player and will get a full ride somewhere if not Michigan.

"the linemen seemed more focused on making sure the defensive tackle was good and beat up before trying to get to the second level. That led to a lot of runs that made it to the line of scrimmage (hooray!) and didn't get much further. And that's fine."
Man, it'll be like Christmas (or something of the like) when the D line is not mostly playing on our offensive side of the ball.
I don't care if we have a 1,000 yard back this season, I'll be elated with not getting Gardner killed and not having the most negative plays in the country.

I like the vibe from Lucier-South, but the distance will be a big challange. Probably the sooner he can make a visit, the better.
Are there any other decent OL prospects if UM misses on Newsome as well?

I wonder if it's possible that last season, besides struggling to find a solid starting 5, that the coaches purposely wanted to get alot of different guys playing time in an attempt to be more prepared for this season?
|6 days 1 hour ago||I do not disagree. An average||
I do not disagree. An average OL will be an immediate upgrade and improvement. An average OL should be good enough for 9-10 win, at least in my opinion.
They do not have to be great, just reduce the number of sack/hits on QB and negative plays. That's it. Those two things will produce a noticable improvement.

Good luck to Horford. I'm all for him trying to find playing time.
However, I also feel that the team with or without Horford wouldn't look or perform much different.
