My biggest regret in life is not playing college basketball. I had tons of NAIA, NCAA D3, and D2 opportunities, and passed on them. Just "went to college". Had fun, but wasted my body. Picked up a Master's later.
And while at one of those schools, I would have studied economics and finance and then got the MBA. I love economics. Early in life, undergrad, etc, economics was just super easy for me, so it was boring, and I couldn't stay focused on it academically.
I work in business now, and deal with aspects of econ and finance daily, which is an enjoyable part of it, but if I could get a Mulligan on 20 years ago, I'd turn up the heat on those topics and do it at a higher level.

A few years ago I had a child born at 25 weeks. He is alive, and doing pretty well, but it was a rocky start. For those unfamiliar, a normal human gestation is closer to 40 weeks, making this kid a full 4 months early. My wife unexpectedly developed a condition making her pregnancy life-threatening. The medical community prioritizes the life of the mother in these cases, and since we also have an older child, that's the way to go. Our son had to be delivered.
He didn't have a name yet, since, well, we thought we had 4 months, and just a week earlier we found out he was a boy. My wife was already at the hospital (due to the condition) and I had just dropped the oldest off at the grandparents, and knew I had to make up a name. I text messaged it to my wife from the grandparents before I could jump back in the car and go at dangerous speeds to the hospital.
He was 1 pound, 5 ounces when he was born via emergency c-section. You didn't think that was possible? Neither did I. In the operating room, the Dr popped her head up asking if I wanted to stay with my wife or go with my son to the NICU. How the hell do you make that choice? Somehow I managed to get a perfect, but jarring, shocking, stunning photo of him in the NICU, even though I was shaking and freaking out. I don't remember taking this photo, but its incredible. Apparently I cut his umbilical cord too. I ended up following a crew of about 10 taking my kid in to the NICU. Once there, after getting him stabilized, a few of them started working on me.
I remember very little of that day other than what I described, and that was all within a 4 hour window between 7 and 11 am. Big chunks of the year to follow are also completely gone from my memory. That was an extreme day.
My boy spent 11 months in the NICU. He came home and has made progress. He is doing okay, and despite being well behind a "normal" kid he could have a reasonably normal life. Being his Dad, along with his big brother's Dad, is the most important thing that has ever happened in my life. Extreme parenting, I guess.
I managed to DVR every Michigan basketball game that winter, and I would watch them later at night when getting back from the NICU. This was a huge escape for me. I actually started to think the Final Four run was a God thing happening for us. Freaking Louisville.

Dunking in warmups! Yes! Great for fans and great for players.
In high school we would sneak in dunks when the refs were distracted by pre-game stuff, and as a player that somehow could get the blood flowing a lot more than a layup.

Bradley is a nice little program. This would be a good move for Max.

Nice finish to the above post. I really enjoyed that.

Like I said the other day, hopefully Caris got a call from his old buddy GRIII right after the latter got released from his non-guaranteed contract with the T'wolves...
Dawkins just hit 8 friggin' 3s in a Big Ten game as a freshman. Wow. His family doesn't need the money, so hopefully Ol' Dad gets in his ear about that and we get 4 years out of this kid.

Amen. That is so hard to believe that Dayton was his next best offer. He would be a star already at Northwestern, for instance. He may end up a star at Michigan.

I have the same struggle as the father of 2 young sons. We grow 'em big in our family, so they are going to have some of the natural attributes, but I got lit up a number of times in just 3 years of football before shifting focus to basketball. I will continue to monitor this stuff. Too bad for the young man in Florida.

That's the impression that I get. But lets all just simmer down. On the other hand, that's a hell of a hat that Harbaugh is wearing.

Glad to hear about Drake Harris having a nice spring. That kid is a real talent. Great hands, and he moves effortlessly. Here's hoping he is finally healthy and starts getting in to the end zone for the Wolverines.

I'll do it in 3 shots. I'm going to nail it, stone cold, with pretty much jump shot form. Please pack the gym first, as I like the pressure. I'm going to hang the gooseneck out there for about 15 seconds after and follow it with whatever Stauskas' latest celebration happens to be. Also, please provide Andrew Dakich in uniform and a chair for my celebration.

Ahhh, nostalgia... Willie Mitchell. I'll take this opportunity to talk about myself.
I somehow outscored Willie head to head our senior seasons of high school basketball. Of course, one of his teammates went crazy for 26 and they blew us out. But wins and losses are just details and nobody remembers those, right?
Cool story bro?

And "picking up checks" is all they are doing. Not one from the group of Stauskas, McGary, and Robinson is making a meaningful contribution in the NBA so far.
|20 weeks 3 days ago||So many negative thoughts.||
So many negative thoughts. I'll get the one positive one out of the way: I love Michigan basketball. Beyond that, however....
- this team is painful to watch.
- Chatman is terrible. That is a missed opportunity for a redshirt.
- There are so many "young team" mistakes, that its no longer an excuse. So many dumb things happening, with Chatman's twice fouling of a 3-point shooter leading the way.
- Nobody on this team is ready and willing to "be the MAN" and take over. Not Caris, not anybody. I miss Nik so bad.
|20 weeks 3 days ago||Caris is far from ready to||
Caris is far from ready to contribute in the NBA. Chad Ford clearly does not watch Michigan games.
Caris has made himself in to a good college player. That's it. Its a stretch to call him a star at the Big Ten level. He is skilled, and tall, which is a very good starting point. He is not where Stauskas was a year ago, and Nik, after being drafted in the lottery, is not making a meaningful contribution to the Kings right now. Caris would not fare better.
Caris has some huge positives: skilled, very tall/long, and seems like he has the work ethic and attitude of a great kid. He is infinitely better off returning to Ann Arbor both for his game and his academics. 6'7" and skilled or athletic is not a predictor of success in the NBA. 6'7" and skilled is average in the NBA. His first contract will be the only guarantee he gets.
I enjoy watching him play, but we are all a little drunk with the Wolverines-to-the-NBA run of the last few years. Lets see Caris become a star, and a very good college player over the next season and a half, and then wish him well in to the NBA.

I know there are a ton of these 'sources' out there, but...
A co-worker who played football at a smaller school, who is close friend's with a couple former M players that seem to be in the know about the search, insists that Plan B was indeed Payton. I doubted it a bit, also, but I don't know why they would be so firm about it if there was no truth to it.

Suppose Harbaugh had been Michigan's coach this year already. Isn't it highly, highly likely that JH could have got better results out of Devin Gardner than Hoke did?
