Harbaugh to interview with Chargers next week
January 13th, 2024 at 1:45 PM ^
According to NFL Media it's believed. That's nothing
January 13th, 2024 at 2:17 PM ^
And I thought Harbaugh was to the point of not "interviewing", but rather, if you want him, come make a pitch. Didn't the Vikings treat him like some novice and put him through an interview which only woke up the beast? I don't care who you are, you need Harbaugh more than he needs you. Any NFL owner with interest should be scheduling a time to come to Chez Harbaugh, hat in hand, and make their best pitch. The most diversely accomplished person in the history of football deserves no less.
January 13th, 2024 at 2:29 PM ^
Wasn't that Jim Stapleton's doing?
January 13th, 2024 at 2:43 PM ^
I think you'd still call that an interview.
January 13th, 2024 at 4:06 PM ^
It would be silly for Harbaugh not to explore NFL jobs when he is negotiating a contract with Michigan. It gives him leverage.
January 13th, 2024 at 2:00 PM ^
Yep. He gave me something I haven’t had since I was in my mid 20s. I’m gonna be 51. If he’s going, than go and fast so Sherrone can take over right away.
January 13th, 2024 at 4:38 PM ^
I think that’s ultimately the issue. If he’s going, it isn’t happening fast enough. The portal has been stacked this year and we can’t make any moves because of his situation. To make matters worse, I don’t think any team is getting stronger than OSU right now. To make matters worse worse, if he leaves he’ll take Minter with him which means we have to replace our head coach and our best assistant in late January or February.
Oh and I’ll pass on Moore. I’d rather have Minter. Otherwise I hear Saban is available.
January 13th, 2024 at 5:30 PM ^
I'll also pass on Moore. Wouldn't be a terrible hire, but we're rolling, no time for on the job training. And its his offense that WRs are leaving in droves. It's also the offense that isn't exactly helping JJs pro prospects.
I appreciate him keeping the plane from plummeting into the ocean, but that doesn't mean he can do that again and again, and it damn sure doesn't mean he can take off and land that mf.
I was hoping for Fisch.
January 13th, 2024 at 5:51 PM ^
The quickest way to blow up the culture that's been created is to NOT promote Moore.
January 13th, 2024 at 6:13 PM ^
This.
January 13th, 2024 at 6:18 PM ^
Or Sherrone could be made a very generous offer to keep the job he has...
January 13th, 2024 at 6:31 PM ^
Man, kids are always disappointed when you don’t promote somebody they already know, but I just don’t know how we can justify promoting a coordinator when a guy with a Michigan and Harbaugh connections is out there having just won 10 games at Arizona after completing an all time turnaround
January 13th, 2024 at 7:05 PM ^
Ur guy was here for 2 years. Yall seriously want Fisch. He has a 17-22 record. You don't even know if he can recruit. I guess yall enjoy being 8-4 because that where you heading if you don't retain the staff Harbaugh set up to stay competitive for the next 3 to 4 years.
January 14th, 2024 at 1:25 AM ^
Because you’re promoting a coordinator who beat won 4 games this year as a head coach, including 2 top 10 wins with one being against the biggest OSU game in our lifetime.
January 14th, 2024 at 3:40 PM ^
Such a football fan way of thinking. When Harbaugh leaves, his culture leaves — especially since he’ll probably take a handful of coaches, including Minter, with him.
January 13th, 2024 at 6:17 PM ^
I was hoping for DeBoer, but Saban/Bama made their moves much more quickly than Jim.
Jedd is now my choice as well. Drinkwitz another solid option, if he's listening...
January 13th, 2024 at 1:51 PM ^
Hopefully it’ll be like that interview in Good Will Hunting where Matt Damon sends Ben Affleck in his place and the guy just asks the interviewers to give him the cash in their pockets.
January 13th, 2024 at 1:58 PM ^
"Retainer!"
January 13th, 2024 at 2:27 PM ^
That was a cool scene in that movie but that's Hollywood. Who could Jim send in his place? How about George Helow...
I seriously doubt DeBoer keeps Helow on his staff at Alabama.
January 13th, 2024 at 2:53 PM ^
That movie wasn’t a true story?!? Oh, and I believe Helow was let go last week.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:43 PM ^
LOL, how did that work out for Alabama?
January 13th, 2024 at 5:52 PM ^
Helow was left on the tarmac at LAX
January 13th, 2024 at 1:51 PM ^
The Chargers have too many holes, the stars are past their prime. Austin Ekeler is 28, Keenan Allen is 31. That team is going nowhere.
Coach should stay where he has built something special...
January 13th, 2024 at 2:02 PM ^
I’m 50 and just worked out at the no judgement zone for 40 minutes. 28 is hardly past one’s prime. I even worked out with a dumbell. I FEEL VIGOROUS!
January 13th, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
A virile man
January 13th, 2024 at 3:31 PM ^
If they didn’t have historically well-known cheap owners, they could pull a move their partners in LA did in 2021 and mortgage their future and use all of their capital to get those holes filled and try to win a Super Bowl within a 2-year window. However, I don’t see their current ownership doing that.
Also: MOVE THEM BACK TO SAN DIEGO. They had a great fan base there and a non-existent one in LA
January 13th, 2024 at 7:45 PM ^
The chargers are also 40 million over the salary cap. They are facing a long rebuild. Plus they have no home field advantage playing in LA. To me not a good situation to go into to
January 13th, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
I just hope the Spanos' fuck this up like they have so many other things since dad Alex died.
He would never have moved the team, many San Diego fans have stopped rooting for them like they did before... maybe passively.
If the team was still in San Diego, I'd be a lot more worried, we'll see.
I just have a feeling he stays, he's got things rolling in AA, leaving for an unknown and whom you have to deal with is not always appealing.
Also, the taxes in California are a mother fucker.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:03 PM ^
Since the days of Fouts & Air Coryell the Chargers have burned thru 11 head coaches.
While that might seem like ancient times it's basically 1 every 3 years. Norv Turner was the one who lasted longest at 6 yrs. It's not exactly a secret that the Spanos ownership are the back benchers on the JV team of the NFL. Probably like you I WAS a Charger fan for many years but would never root for any LA team. I was there in November when the Lions came in and won. It was 60/40 Lions fans easy. That is the Chargers future from here on out. More opposing fans than yours. Every. Game. Forever.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:28 PM ^
I was there too brother, what a game, I met Amon Ra's dad, and thanked him for his son, lol. Also, Goff has a really hot fiance', we could see her from our seats.
Fun day!
January 13th, 2024 at 4:43 PM ^
As a former life long San Diego Charger fan, I also pull for the Lions now more than the Chargers, though I do like Justin Herbert. For what little it's worth, having lived in all 3 cities or towns, while all places have their charms, Ann Arbor is nicer than L.A. imho, especially for raising a family. Personally think Ann Arbor about as nice as San Diego, though much different, college town vs. large city. Weather advantage to San Diego during winter and early spring. From the nickel seats, would not surprise me if Coach Harbaugh interviewed with the Chargers and ultimately stayed at Michigan. Would actually surprise me more if he leaves for the NFL. Happen to agree with others here who say it's a matter of finding and agreeing on some mutually satisfactory contract language to protect both sides in the event of another NCAA or B10 witch hunt.
January 13th, 2024 at 5:54 PM ^
More like Commiefornia, amirite?
January 13th, 2024 at 6:40 PM ^
In California, as with everywhere in these "united" states, if you have enough $ you can afford to avoid a significant portion of your taxes. And if you're making $10+mill/year, you're still rich as fuck after taxes too...
That's such a middle-class concern!
January 13th, 2024 at 1:53 PM ^
The article indicates "rumors" and uses phrasing like "it is believed". No facts. Until actual sources report, it's still nothing but speculation and rumors.
January 13th, 2024 at 2:02 PM ^
Rapoport reported it, so it's probably legit. The question is what does "speak with" mean. It could literally just be a phone call. If they said "interview" I'd be a lot more concerned.
January 13th, 2024 at 2:35 PM ^
Rapport is another click bait guy.
January 13th, 2024 at 2:58 PM ^
He's definitely not a clickbait guy. If he reports something, he has a legitimate source. There are only a few reputable guys in the NFL/NBA news-breaking business, but the shortlist is Schefter, Rap, Woj, and Shams.
January 13th, 2024 at 5:09 PM ^
Wrong. All of them are willing to be used by agents and front office people to perpetuate rumors to suit their needs. Then said reporters are given a treat once in a while like a loyal dog.
If the last 8 years of NFL reporting involving Harbaugh hasn’t opened your eyes to the sleazy nature of all NFL reporters, there’s no help for you.
January 13th, 2024 at 6:28 PM ^
Same thing is true of college football reporters, did you not just see Jimmy Sexton use one of his clients getting a job at Alabama to get three more of his clients massive contract extensions?
January 13th, 2024 at 5:05 PM ^
Don’t bother, our fanbase is mostly not interested in the NFL and has been conditioned to believe NFL reporters make everything up
meanwhile, we have some of the worst insiders in sports and the same guys on here will believe literally everything they say
January 13th, 2024 at 2:53 PM ^
Do you really think, after all this, he’s not going to talk to NFL teams? The denial in some is amazing.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:32 PM ^
Pretty sure no one here has said, "he's not talking to the NFL". The article is pure speculation while disguised as fact. While rumors can be fun and an interesting topic for discussion, at the end of the day facts matter more to me. That's being a realist, not being in denial.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:36 PM ^
I mean, I don’t need Rappaport to tell me that Jim is gonna interview with the Chargers. I think that’s a forgone conclusion. If he wasn’t gonna interview with the nfl he would have signed his Michigan deal by now.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:51 PM ^
JH's current contract runs through 2026. While it would be ideal getting him signed to a new contract ASAP, it isn't like it expires on Monday at midnight.
You might be right and you know what? You might be wrong, too. Again, here we are with speculation vs fact. No one knows what JH is going to do until he let's everyone else know. I'll go back to my original statement: until we have more verified sources, it's just noise right now. Same with the current contract rumors.
And if we want to keep speculating instead of focusing on what we do know, you didn't even mention why the current rumor in regards to the hold up on the new contract signing: he wants to be at Michigan but wants protection from a fallout from a show cause.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:44 PM ^
If you think you need to read a particular date when a meeting is going to happen in order for it to be real, you’re in denial.
January 13th, 2024 at 3:52 PM ^
Nah, I don’t think we should be reporting that they’re interviewing when the two sides haven’t even talked yet. Has nothing to do with being in denial. It’s simply irresponsible journalism to report things that aren’t actually happening.
Once they set up an interview, it’s fine to report on that. Claiming there’s an interview when the two sides haven’t even spoken, is just bush league journalism
January 13th, 2024 at 4:59 PM ^
I hope you stretched before you're made that reach or you're going to hurt yourself.
Please show me he has an interview this week with the Chargers. Did you even read the article or do you just read headlines? The headline doesn't match the content of the article at all but you're over here making wild assumptions about what I am saying? Good Lord.
January 13th, 2024 at 1:53 PM ^
This entire headline is built off of the following sentence from a clickbait nfl.com article:
"Sources say it's believed the Chargers will speak next week with Harbaugh, who has indicated to associates there's a real possibility he could leave the University of Michigan to become Los Angeles' head coach"
So, again, zero actual new news. Hopefully, my comment can save people a few clicks getting to what's behind the headline.
January 13th, 2024 at 2:30 PM ^
I like the "speak with" phase. That could mean anything.
If Jim is seen in LA next week then that could be newsworthy.
