This made me sick when I saw it -- but Helm is hurt again.
|1 week 3 hours ago||Also, if Josh Blackburn IS||
Also, if Josh Blackburn IS still the goalie coach -- holy shit. I will happily buy him 3 smoothies (no more though -- 'tis the holiday season, after all). And how funny is it that he's better at teaching goalies to be good than he actually was at goaltending?

Thank you again, Brian, for doing the hockey posts. I know they don't get as many hits as Football and BB -- but the content is deep and good and I for one, appreciate it. If I'm being totally honest I bought HTHAH for the hockey content much moreso than the BB (which of course I still read). Long story short, thanks for not forgetting about us hockey fans.

In hindsight I'm pretty sure I did the 'single clap' too. Made it even worse. But after hearing the sparty ringtone all afternoon (Tom, please change you ringtone -- PLEASE), I'm understandably not focused on work.

"Even GERG is staring at that split like ICP staring at a magnet."
This whole thing is cracking me up -- but that sentence made me LOL like an idiot in my currently very silent office.

Yes. I was just telling my friend (who is now at Stanford) how badly I wish I lived out there for this very reason. I need to get away from all of this....
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Fear not my fellow Wings||
Fear not my fellow Wings friend, the Wings will move Blashill up when he is ready. Minimal growing pains will occur. If you're a Michigan Hockey fan too, this is probably the best of both worlds; seriously.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I would also like to add to my comment that...||
I don't know how long Babs' contract is with the Wings currently. And the Wings won't give him up unless the timing for Blashill is right.
THAT is all.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Unless I missed something, I||
Unless I missed something, I believe Red has 2 years left on his contract. So I say he retires then; not before, not after (health problems notwithstanding, of course). Otherwise as far as what I've heard, know and suspect, your prediction is spot-on. The Wings moved Blashill down to GR to groom him for the NHL (and he's doing a mighty fine job, might I add). The "Babs wants to coach his kids and loves Michigan" thing is something I've been hearing for 4 or 5 years now and his kids are finally almost of age. Granted we as M fans are very aware that rumors don't always pan out but I think a lot of this was intentionally put in place. I could also see Pearson coming back now that he has a few years of head coaching under his belt.
That is all.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||I would invite you to our||
I would invite you to our tailgate -- but it no longer exists as Dave Brandon has priced my poor, LS&A degree ass out of going to the games. I find this article interesting as I know a handful of people who are in your same boat. Let me begin by saying I have dozens of spartan grad friends. I started out at U-M Dearborn so I stayed in-touch with my HS friends, loads of whom went to msu. And since I didn't have that 'dorm experience' so-to-speak, I spent a ton of time up there visiting them (I always joked that with the amount of money I spent in parking tickets and sleeping in their dorms, MSU owed me an honorary degree). By the time I transfered to Ann Arbor, I obviously had some Michigan friends, but since I never lived in the dorms I missed out on making super-strong bonds (and I dropped out of the Greek life just as fast as I got in). So I've always kept in touch with my sparty friends -- who have only recently become insufferable (thanks, RichRod). While I was in college M never lost to sparty so it was never that terrible -- I wasn't much of a basketball fan and they would always try and bring that up instead (of course, because that's what they do), but it never really got to me. During this time I ran into loads of secret Michigan fans that went to state; I even remember a Facebook group along the lines of "Michigan fans who attend MSU" or something like that that had THOUSANDS of members. In fact, I actually dated a girl at msu who didn't care about sports so she would wear my Michigan shirts around campus. She pointed out that every, single time she wore them (in addition to a plethora of dirty looks) she would hear multiple "Go Blue"s throughout the day. So yeah, that's just my ramblings but I know loads of people who have been through the same experience as you. I cannot imagine how tough it must be/have been for you, I know they all dealt with the same crap -- I don't think I could take that day-in and day-out. In your shoes I think I would have just gone to a UP school or something far, far away -- you're a trooper. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who put up with all that is definitely as 'true blue' as any of the rest of us. If I ever get rich and can afford to go to Michigan games again, maybe I'll start an 'outsiders group' tailgate to bring all my friends to -- I'll keep ya posted :-p
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Yup.||
Honestly he probably is. Many of our original last names (mine included) have either evolved into being mis-pronounced over dozens of generations or got changed at Ellis Island or the like (or changed to protect family/not bring shame).
Making it sound all French is kind-of funny -- I think I'm going to stick my pinky out and pronounce it the way the OP told us to from now on. We'll see if it eliminates turnovers.

This is definitely good stuff. A lot of decent information can be obtained from these data sets. I look forward to seeing how it looks after BC shells us tonight. I really appreciate the effort -- hopefully enough of us will feel the same for you to keep it going. Thanks for taking the time to do these!

|10 weeks 2 days ago||Nice Preview||
I'm glad that the explosion of the baskeball team and an extremely rare down year for the hockey team hasn't left M Hockey in the dust. They'll be back -- much better than last year, though not nearly the depth in-front of goal to do any real damage in the NCAA's, IMO. The forwards, I think, will be better than most expect. Compher and Motte will be huge additions. If we can get any consistency whatsoever from guys like DiGuiseppe and Guptill (whenever he comes back -- hopefully it's not another half season suspension), that corps will be just fine. Defense is so, so very green; unlike football though, freshman hockey players can really make a difference from day one. It will be interesting to see. As far as the net goes...who the hell knows?

So much for the Wildcats sneaking up on ohio. Oh well, maybe they can just flat out beat them.

here's the content free argument (albeit not against Brian): are you fucking kidding??

Nice. Hopefully the defense and goaltending will be more consistent this season...although without Trouba and Merril that might be a challenge. Time will tell. Go Blue!!!

All sports operate like this. The point scored that is one point more than the other team ends up getting by rhe end of the game is the winning point.

Against ohio the tires didn't fall off...Al Borges took a giant shit in the form of offense. Devin and Denard, et al. were playing fine...the playcalling was just terrible. But yeah...we better destroy UConn...if we don't I'll never calm down.

The funny thing to me about this is...hell yes I would take this pitch! BOTH TEAMS HAVE TO PLAY ON IT. neither team would score...i would happily take a 0-0 out of CRC. Bring it on, Ticos...and quit your bitching.

I actually tried to pull this off in a game several times when I was younger...the defense was always quick to swat my stick down. I think the one real, golden opportunity I had where the defense gave me plenty of space, I actually dropped it on the way around. I remember listening to this game and then seeing the goal on sportscenter the next day and I was SO excited that kids where actually talking about college hockey at school the next day.
