$700k per year, up from either $350k or $450k (can't recall). Anyone know the salaries of other coaches besides Naurato ($400k)?

FWIW, M offered Bakitch (in response to the title series a few years ago): $500k. Not sure if they countered Clemson or not.

Unlike Staee's past quick decision to extend a big contract to a coach that had been with them only a short time, this is probably a good move.

The way he's turned around the smoldering dumpster fire that has been Sparty Hockey since Ron Mason makes him worthy of a nice bump imo.  It appears to be a real program again and you can't argue with a B1G title.

Or maybe, if we're lucky, this season was a complete fluke from having a great goalie and Sparty can go back to mediocrity while paying the coach a bunch of money.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between.  Augustine covers up a lot of warts for them, considering that we outplayed them in probably 3 of the 4 games, and went 1-3.  And Augustine already had a strong connection to Nightingale, so we will see if he can continue to bring in top guys that are not already connected to him.

However, they were really bad before he got there, so the improvement clearly goes beyond just the goaltender.

They're back to being competitive after seemingly a decade+ of being anywhere between bad and horrible. I don't quite see them consistently winning the conference title; basically any other year they'd have finished 2nd/3rd behind Minny and/or UM.  But they're solid and have a great goalie in Augustine.  Repeating that magic, though, is the rub here.

Nightingale has done a hell of a job at MSU.  To turn that program around in 2 years, B1G champ in 3 is nothing short of amazing.

I do not live in the state of Michigan, but the fact that a bunch of clowns in suits at MSU make these decisions knowing that state taxpayers will foot the bill for their incompetence is not a source of joy.

Mel having a good year and getting $90MM guaranteed over 10 years based on one win over Michigan is very, very different than Nightingale quickly turning their program into one of the best in the B1G (with a regular-season conference championship and NCAA tourney bid to show for it) and getting 600k per year with various bonuses rolled in (actually scanned the article).
