What if Augustine is just…

What if Augustine is just their Kenneth Walker III?  He made Staae football look legit, but a lot people came back down to earth once he left. This isn't based on any stats, but it felt like Payton Thorne tailed off quick without KWIII.  Here's hoping for a repeat of that, but on the ice.

Heroism? He makes millions…

Heroism? He makes millions coaching 20 year olds a game.  I appreciate Harbaugh and the great year we just had, but he's not marching for voting rights or saving babies from fires. At least, not that I've heard of yet.

A couple years ago, I heard sports talk guys defending a NFL receiver (maybe Dez Bryant?) for shutting it down early one year after an injury.  "How could fans ask him to risk his knee for a game?  For just $12 million?"  All I could think was, "shit, I'd tear my ACL on purpose for $12 million."

I'm sure it was a long fall for Harbaugh, but I'd take his salary plus all the fun of coaching this team, even with the abuse that he experienced in the media... in a heartbeat.

I love JJ so I hate to say this, but the only game that he swung was the State game that year and he didn't win it for us...

This is my experience…

This is my experience because I'm too lazy to look up numbers, but Oregon fall/winter is much milder than Ann Arbor fall/winter.

I grew up 15 mins from Ann Arbor and have lived in Portland for 8 years. The average temps may be similar, but its just more pleasant here weather-wise. Once the rain starts for real in a couple months though...

The other U-M has 3, don't they? Winnipeg, Canadian Sault Ste Marie, and Toronto-ish, no?

Is "Pgh" an known abbreviation for Pittsburgh?  You could have given me hours and offered me Nico's game check, I'm not sure I ever would have guessed that.

Simon Fraser is a university…

Simon Fraser is a university in Vancouver, BC. They are pretty unique in that they are in a conference with US schools.

It's named after a British-Canadian explorer and fur trader, who helped establish the first white settlements in BC. The Fraser River is also named after him.

I lived down the hall from Mike Hart his freshman year. A friend and I walked by him once and after we turned the corner, I told here who we had just passed. She gets all excited and runs back around the corner to see him again. He also turned back and they literally run into each other. Pretty smooth all around.

Iowa game in '97 please. It's the one game that year I couldn't watch on TV so I listened to it on the radio while mowing the lawn, we had a lot of lawn.

Can someone make a bot that catches every GoJ post or comment, translates them and makes a post I can figure out? It's usually good stuff, just sounds like that one episode of Kevin from the office. "Many small time, make big time"

I question Howard's subbing…

I question Howard's subbing patterns. Tarris Reed didn't play in the second half until the 12ish min mark. (In that time, Tshetter provided no offense to speak of and picked up a dumb foul. Also Terrance Williams forced a couple awkward shots at the rim, he did get one luckily.)

Once Tarris came on, I don't think he sat until he fouled out. He played like 17 straight minutes which culminated with 2 dumb, lazy fouls on Shannon in the 1st OT. I'm a big Tarris fan, so I couldn't understand why he was sitting at the start of the 2nd. But also, of course he was tired by the end of OT. Big dogs gotta rest sometimes.

I woulda played Baker more frequently in the 2nd half too.

Is there some place to find out the story here? I've gathered that WD and Ace pissed everyone off and something went down between them, which Ace "won" because he was part of the staff. Can anybody fill me in the rest of the way? Thanks in advance

Is this what it feels like…

Is this what it feels like to be Georgia fan (or a Bama fan most years)? Not sure if we are that good, but the way we are just sitting on our opponents. We look like we're barely trying most of the time and it's still hopeless for the bad guys each week, save the 2nd quarters for Rutgers and PSU.

Big ten championships…

Big ten championships. Playoff appearances. The Games won.

Not saying Cade is better than either, just highlighting his credentials.

We just did a roadtrip up to Canada and I was in the same boat. I think it was day 11 for me after my first positive test so we were nervous too.

But no one asked about covid when we crossed into or out of Canada. Especially going into Canada, it was extremely quick and easy.

Our crossings were in Victoria and Vancouver way over here on the left coast, so dunno if that changes things.

Happy travels

We dogsat for Griese during the Outback bowl against Bama (I think it was that year, I was young). He stayed around for a few to play catch with me. Seemed like the coolest guy in the world at the time.

His dog was a shit though.

Is there a place on this site to view posting stats?  Seems like every thread I open these days is posted by you, TK.

Unfortunately, it's a real quantity over quality situation.  Not a lot of new info being shared, at least to my knowledge.

On 247's all-time Michigan…

On 247's all-time Michigan bball recruits, Tschetter is just below Stauskas and Mo Wagner (and Kelvin Grady) and just above Isaiah Livers and DJ Wilson.

I dunno if Howard and co will be as successful at developing players as the previous regime, but any other year Tschetter would be a real solid part of the class, not an after thought.

For what it's worth, Houstan and Diabete are the top 2 on our all time list and Bufkin and Collins are top 15, right around Dickinson.

Yeah, look at Trey Lance, he's played a season and a game for NDSU and he's probably going in the top 10.

A couple current players…

A couple current players look they would have fared better back in those days. Loyer, Izzo Jr and Hoiberg Jr give hope to unathletic dudes like me.

I know the walk-on spots don't matter much, but its crazy they waste a roster spot on Steven Izzo, who played under 5 mins a game his senior year of hs.

Also, does Langford have regrets? I know injuries have been hard on him, but Izzo doesn't seem to have helped his development much.

Gulo, a while ago, someone…

Gulo, a while ago, someone tipped me off to the way different people are addressed so I've been paying more attention to that for the last year or so. I live in Portland so I dont run into many Black people, but I have noticed a real discrepancy across genders. I am a high school teacher and my female colleagues are frequently called girl teachers by our students while I've never heard boy teacher once.

Also, my wife is a doctor and she has several stories of patients, nurses, strangers, etc. eschewing the norm and calling her by her first name at work.

Anyway, my point is that I was a little incredulous of these kinds of things until I started keeping an eye out for them. In the big scheme of things, its not the end of the world that many people refer to him as Juwan or my female colleagues as girls, but its my personal opinion that we should analyze why those things feel comfortable.

Well said. Dude wasn't perfect, but he was a absolutely amazing at times.

Never heard a bad word about him in terms of personality or extracurriculars. Count me as sad that he couldn't keep the success up.

Serious question, have we…

Serious question, have we had other great wrestler/footballers than Mike Martin?  Was Rob Renes a wrestler?

Without spending much time…

Without spending much time looking through 247, it seems like both Michigan and PSU are actually trending down over the last couple of years, no?  Not sure a couple decent classes from Maryland and Rutgers counteracts the second and third best teams in the division taking dips.  Just my 2 cents though

In Trevor Noah's book, he…

In Trevor Noah's book, he talks about how during apartheid, Japanese people were considered white because they created technology and whatnot, and Chinese people were considered "colored." I don't remember all the details, but he goes into some of the weird specifics of apartheid.  It's still just racism, but I thought it was interesting to learn it was more complicated than just black and white.

I read an article about…

I read an article about Haskins a while ago that had a great quote. College coaches didn't recruit him because he lacks break away speed so he'll never score 60 yard tds, best he can do is 30 yarders, to which his HS coach responded "then give it to him twice"

(No subject)

Cheers to you, Whiz, for having actual conversations about this. Granted its not the most divisive topic on here. But people keep pointing things out and you go and look up what they're saying and change your opinion based on it. Classy

I guess I was thinking super bowl era when I said NFL history. I didn't realize they were that good in the early to mid 90s. Thats a little before my time, I thought it was just a lot of great Barry highlights, but still the regular allotment of losing.
