Ah, apologies, I didn't realize this was a UM Commencement speaker thread. Graduated in 2007. Sat front row for Bill Clinton. He was fantastic. Say what you want about his politics, the man's a hell of a speaker. |

Yeah, but he was probably terrible primarily because he was from Ohio. |

Graduated from Wayne State SoM on Monday and ours was Dr. Grover, who is the public policy manager for the AAMC. He gave a pretty political speech. I didn't really think it was appropriate for the venue. But whatever, I'm a doctor now, so IDGAF! |

Meh. Kid wants to be a celebrity. This is what celebrities have to deal with. Whenever you put anything out there for public consumption you run the risk that you'll be mocked. Would it be better to falsely praise the video and thereby give him the unwarranted belief that he's actually a good rapper? Better he knows early on, so he can redefine his goals (though he already - unwisely, IMO - burned the four-year-college-scholarship bridge). |

Definitely agree. Love Dave and Chuck. This has been in the works for awhile -- they actually quit 89X for an undisclosed gig that paid more... must've been this one. |

Giving up a four-year scholarship for a sure thing like rap? What could go wrong? |

See, I don't like that. If players have their own numbers they want to hang on to, I have no problem leaving a Legend's jersey in the locker until there's someone worthy of (and willing to) wear it. I don't think these should become a thing that just gets parceled out every year. It's supposd to be a honor. Things stop being special if they're commonplace. |

That's a great thought. We SHOULD recruit Peter Pan; dude can fly! You thought the linebackers in NCAA football were bad? Try throwing over Peter Pan! |

If he spends a long time in prison he'll be a drain on society that way, too. Free room and board adds up. |

Quidditch. But only if M Engineering can devise real flying brooms and balls. None of this "pretending" b.s. |
| 2 weeks 6 hours ago | I'm pretty sure you pay |
I'm pretty sure you pay "professional prices" at the hospital whether you have the chief of medicine or the newest intern managing your care. Nominally, an attending is in charge, but let's face it - most of the time you're dealing with the intern/resident. I also disagree that you can't major in basketball -- how many one-and-done players have we seen? That's exactly what they do. Even football student athletes who have professional potential and leave after three years could be considered majoring in football. Really, I just find it laughable that you're saying we should pay student athletes who need no degree for what they do more than we pay medical interns who need eight years of school plus two degrees. |
| 2 weeks 1 day ago | This will be unpopular, but I |
This will be unpopular, but I think they should hold him accountable for his actions. He signed a legally-binding contract, fully cognizant of the ramifications of what he was doing. He was presumably well aware that this was locking him in to play football for FSU in return for a scholarship. Have some integrity and stick with the commitment you made. If you weren't sure, you should've held off. You're telling me FSU wouldn't have waited on this kid? Come on. He's old enough to buy a car or a house (and take out the requisite loans that come with those), and you can't just say "whoopsie, changed my mind" to the bank. He needs to understand that actions have consequences. He signed a contract. Deal with it. Or, if he really wants to transfer, he should take what FSU will let him have and be grateful that he got that much. |

See, (some of) my residency interviewers took the exact opposite tack. If you can't hold it together during a half-hour interview, you must be terrible in daily life. They can afford to be excessively choosy though, I suppose. |

My takeaway... too many "red" teams in this conference. We need some color variation. Rutgers and Maryland are allowed in, but only if they immediately adopt new colors forthwith. |

Uh, you only have to use basic deductive reasoning to determine that if the article is from late 2012, it has probably been seen already. This should lead you to believe a search is necessary. It's not that difficult to click through to results and glance at them for a half second. No one is going to "scoop" you on such an old article. If you're not willing to adequately research, you're asking to be mocked. The easiest way to do something is properly. When did we become such a community of crybabies? Are we worried that OPs are going to have their self-esteem damaged and quit posting? |

What a bunch of crap. I hate this mentality. Movies, I get. If I want to watch one, I can usually rent it somewhere. With sporting events, once they're over, unless you have recorded it yourself, there is no resource for watching old games other than the Internet. So yeah, they're copyrighted and everything, but if the "owner" company never makes use of the resources, someone should. Fuck, at least create a paid-membership site where I can stream everything if you absolutely feel the need to squeeze every last drop of profit out of these things. |

I was friends with a group of girls in undergrad (2005-2007) that bought tickets every year and couldn't be bothered to stay past halftime, if they made it at all. By mid-October they judged it far too cold to even attempt to go to games. They didn't sell their tickets, they just didn't go. I found it baffling that such people exist, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is actually a very common attitude. |
