Second the Woolshed Baa

I lived in Dublin while studying abroad and the only place we could go to watch Football was the Woolshed. I remember watching Super Bowl XLI (Bears v. Colts) at the Woolshed. They had to apply for a special permit and essentially had a lock-in - once you were in, you couldn't leave and come back. I remember leaving after the game with some Chicagoans at like 6am who were pissed and piss drunk, made for an interesting walk home.

Just tried your link

The hyperlink works, but you can't actually purchase that package with the discount. That was specific to you; I even called and they said it only works if you go through the email that you got. Want to forward me the email?

These are a few of my favorite things!

I got this autographed football in 2005 at a Silent Auction benfitting Special Days Camps and the baseball stuff is from when I played. It's my glove, a fungo that says Wolverines Baseball and a Big Ten baseball. Makes a nice collection in my office.

A bald version of Toby from the Office.

The #s are hideous

That is all

Babin was also an all-state wrestler

I know he went to WMU but he wound up being an all-American DE for the broncos and a 1st round selection.

I think it was closer to 50-50

I was on the northwestern side and I can tell you the visiting sideline was pretty
much all maize and blue. And in my section I think the 3 rows behind and in front of me were almost all Michigan.

They just opened the golf course

The course right by the stadium opened for tailgating for the first time this year and is the new "it" spot.

Any time I see Fister's name I shudder. Then I giggle.

Common baseball maxim

Win the series at home (2 out of three) and split on the road. Do that and you've won 93 games (53 at home and 40 on the road).

Congrats to IU

I hope he does well there ( other than when playing UM)

Best of Luck to Everyone

I took it in Illinois two years ago and it was absolutely misreable. Not so much the exam, which was a blur, but the 3 months of studying and agonizing was enough to tell myself I won't be taking it again, even though I recently moved to Michigan. I am just going to wait the 5 years until reciprocity kicks in (as I work in-house my company allowed me to have a special certification so I can represent them).

Best of luck to everyone!

Someecards

How did history and tradition work for the Dodgers?

I think that any brand, regardless of its prestige, needs to continue to plan for the future and insulate itself from risk. The difficult task lies in striking the balance between sustaining the product and alienating the fan base.

And I like Jess Mendoza

Grumble grumble glass houses...

This sounds like college students in general..I remember going to block parties on Arbor and Greenwood that had to be broken up by police. The biggest difference is the ability for immediate commentary such as iPhones, Facebook, YouTube, and twitter which were not available even 7-10 years ago.

"Gorgeous George" Sisler

It's not quite a Fuck Lion, but it's solid. Baseball always has some good ones, including:

Wade "Lollypop" Killefer

Vernon "Slicker" Parks

Charlie "The Mechanical Man" Gehrigner

Dave "Soup" Campbell

I hope that bodes well

For the student tickets I bought off a Chinese Grad student....maybe I will get "relegated" to the club level seating.

Fair Enough

I just remember it was a ridiculous situation and one which did not get better. It may have been possible that his brother carried it out all the way through, but the utter lack of respect that the individual holding himself out to be Arman Gary had for the program, the policies, the institution and the individuals charged with administering the program left little choice but a lifetime ban.

I guess I cannot stereotype this individual based on my one meeting with him, but it was enough that 8 years later I still knew the name (although I couldn't recall why initially) It is, if nothing else, notorious.

Krikor Arman Gary

Haha, he has his own wikipedia page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krikor_Arman

It needs to be edited to state that in 2003 he was trying to play Intramural Ice Hockey under "Arman Gary" and all he did was fight kids...which, not so much in IM hockey. I was in charge of the league and he is, to my knowlege, the only player to ever receive a lifetime ban. Which, if his wikipedia page is correct, means he better not be playing while in Med School.

He remains, to this day, one of the most arrogant people I have ever met; can't imagine he will have the best bedside manner.

Very Good Read

I found it to be very enlightening and would love to see more stories digging up the marvelous histories of Michigan Athletics. The Daily does a superb job of writing features and merely adds another aspect as to why I am proud to be a Michigan Wolverine.

My only critcism of the piece was the final line "imported from St. Mikes..." but overall an excellent read.

Whew

That was crazy!! Frozen Muppets!

New Holland

Pilgrims Dole wheat wine ale

Bigfoots

Personally I prefer the plural form of bigfeet.

Beer Chugging Tournament

My favorite moment was a summer party being held at one of my friends in Metro Detroit. This was an amazing annual event held at his dad's lawfirm, which was a converted mansion/estate complete with pool and pool house, tennis courts, etc.

Not only was the setting amazing, but also the fact that there were a near equal number of Spartans and Wolverines--both male and female. This particular instance was the Summer of 2003 and the normal shit talking quickly ensued. Now, for the most part this was friendly and fraternal, but as the alcohol was increasingly consumed, tensions rose.

In particular was the bravado of a certain Sparty who claimed (and was backed up by others there) to be the "best chugger evah" and since the Wolverines didn't know how to party there was no one who could beat him. They also claimed he was undefeated in East Lansing. So.....of course a challenge was offered by a friend who was our resident champion. Now, not only did they play for pride, but in our stupor, we thought they should also compete for "drinking names." I can't recall how these came about, but Mr. Sparty was affectionately referred to as "Boozebag" and our Wolverine Champion was known as "Donnie." Whomever won the chug-off would retain the others nickname, which was never to be used by them again.

Alas, the build-up to the event was better than the actual race, as "Donnie" detroyed "Boozebag" even in a best out of 3, then 5, then 7. it was a simple fact that Donnie was the better chugger. And after seeing the Spartans with their heads hanging and the SFKaB (spartan formerly known as boozebag) incredulous, Donnie informed them that he only drinks "occasionally" and isn't even the best chugger out of his friends, let alone campus. Further, he went on to let "SFKaB" that he thought the name was retarded and would be retiring it forever.

That was my greatest M v. MSU moment...

This is terrible

This seems too "Hollywood-esque" to be a true story. Game winning shot in OT at the buzzer to preserve a perfect 20-0 season...only to collapse. This is terrible and my thoughts and prayers go out to the community of Fennville and the Leonard family today.

It also made national news: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/highschool/news/story?id=6180469
